The price is exorbitant. They charge by the hour. The day we were there, it was very crowded and treating the family took 6 hours. It was probably more expensive than it needed to be. That said, if you have an entire family whose heads are full of lice, this is the best way to go. The treatment is thorough and you can feel relieved knowing it's all gone when you walk out the door. The place used to be ok until they shut down all but one location. That last one is a dirty studio. When you book an appointment, they don't put it on their calendar. It happened many times for us as we had there insurance. We arrived and they almost yelled at us every time saying we didn't make an appointment. Once we even showed up when it was closed!!! Then the staff on site continues to be rude and you wait in the hallway with 10 other people who also thought they had an appointment. An hour later it's your turn. They check you very quickly for lice and demand a tip again in a very rude matter. They pull the hair like crazy especially on kids. They take all their time when you have lice to make you pay more. The company is very badly managed and we do NOT recommend to go there. There are other better places who know how to treat normally paying customers. read more

And then if you find that someone in the family has lice they then see you immediately! You will be very happy with the work at this place Cece did a Very very thorough painstaking treatment removal and cleaning. Cece was also extremely personable and helpful! And the owner was also very friendly! While it's expensive it was worth every penny. And they do a free check up a week later to make sure they got everything. This is a Reality check for the people, this isn't about anyone or just one place in particular: This is the type of business that is dishonest and predatory. Not that they don't provide a service but like drug rehabs they prey upon vulnerable people who feel stuck, charge ridiculous amounts and don't actually promise to get rid of anything. And some of these places offer products that should be included for what you pay in exchange for positive review. While I can't deny that heat is a treatment for lice, even so it's a process that is much more than your head alone, it's your home, clothes, basically treat life and I would argue that it takes two weeks to effectively treat lice, my that time the guarantee is gone. Considering the cost and all the above mentioned , I also know that The study for Airalle was only done for people who weren't going to be exposed to others with lice and was manipulated to get the results they did and the ratio was not to other treatments. read more

If you are ever unfortunate enough to have lice, the last thing you want to feel after having spent nearly $600 and several hours is worry that the salon didn't do it's job and you'll have to do the whole thing over again. Extremely unhappy with the $565 hair treatment I just received. Upsetting enough to have lice, then be be charged nearly double the amount for my children ($300 each, with a lovely woman who came to my home, not affiliated with LE). I was kept there for hours while the clock was running. Place was understaffed so I waited while the technician took calls/e-mails (presumably from her manager) and performed a lice check on another client. The "airalle" dryer was not working, despite my waiting 45 minutes for them to fix it - that didn't lower my price (yet it is an essential part of their treatment - "AirAllé device is so effective at killing lice eggs (which are the hardest for traditional lice products to kill), the chances of needing a follow-up treatment are very small."). I called to explain and they told me the dryer would have just "added on to the time." The invoice states: "Treatment includes the AirAlle ...medical device that is 99.2% effective.." Well, is it or is it not part of the treatment? I was not give any instructions to come back for a follow up visit, though at least 2 people came in for that reason. They threw in a bottle of shampoo for my trouble, and graciously deducted the time they kept me waiting (one hour = $140). I am beyond shocked and very disappointed. The technician did her best, as far as I can see, though the treatment time was excessive for someone with thin hair - my children have long and very thick hair - I have just below shoulder length very thin hair, so thin, in fact, I'm on oral and topical meds to thicken it. I hold the managers responsible for what is essentially brazen over-charging and under-performing. Worst of all, I have no confidence the treatment was successful. i'm itchy and my neck/back is covered with backing soda. I may be wrong - time will tell - but I'm extremely regretful I went to Licenders. I was so upset at having lice I failed to look at reviews first. I hope you won't make the same mistake. read more

Don't go to this place! It's a total rip off!!!! I went for treatment for my three kids that had lice and nits and we had to spend $1,100 just so my kids will get it again 2 weeks after!!!! I had someone come to my house and for $100 she checked and treated all three kids, in one hour they were clean and could go back to school. Grid is a key word here, the price is insane and inappropriate! Never ever step a foot there because you don't know how much you will end up paying and then you will still have the same problem! When I called to complain about the high price and the fact that my 3 kids had lice and nits again after 2 weeks so someone else treated them with oil- it took 1 hour and $100 the owner offered free 2 hour treatment and hung up the phone on me! Unfortunately my daughter has gotten lice three times since August 2016... over the counters and prescriptions haven't been any remedy for her, so we came here... staff are super friendly and great with kids AND adults. They're very informative of ways to prevent and other ways to treat. The greatest part is that a lice check is completely free... if you feel an itch of the scalp and are in the west side area of Manhattan the "upper west" location is definitely ideal. Hopefully I'll never have this issue again, if I do I will definitely make my way here again! read more

We needed verification for school that our child does not have lice, and had a mixed experience having a lice check performed by Licenders. Background: Our child had lice 4 months ago, and at the time we treated it ourselves with a prescription Spinosad suspension (apply, let sit 10 minutes, wash out). The doctor and the instructions that came with the prescription said that Spinosad kills eggs/nits so we did not remove them. We have continued to check over the past 4 months and have not seen any further evidence of live lice or of new eggs close to the scalp, so it seems to have worked to kill the existing eggs. (New eggs are laid close to the scalp, and then travel further away as the hair grows out.) In preparation for the lice check we combed out any remaining nits that we could find; all of them were 4-5" down the hair shafts. The person at Licenders who checked our child was pleasant. She found several empty egg casings that we had missed half-way down the hair length and told us that she thought it would be fine since they weren't near the scalp but needed to check with her supervisor to confirm that they could write a verification note for the school. Her supervisor was quite brusque with both her and us, saying that there was no way to know they were dead eggs and that she could not write a note for any child who had any nits. While we understand that this may be Licenders' policy, it was conveyed in an unprofessional manner. The employees were not familiar with prescription lice medications, and we also got the impression that the supervisor may not have been clear on the lifecycle of lice (eggs near the scalp vs. further down the hair shaft). On their front desk, we also noticed that there were jars labelled "Lice Prevention Mousse", with a sign saying that they were free in exchange for "positive reviews on Yelp." We called back later to get a quote on how much removal of all of the nits would cost if the school required us to do so. We were told $145 for the first 30 minutes, $70 per 30 minutes thereafter, and that a treatment would likely take a minimum of two hours based on my description of it being several remaining egg casings. Searching now on Yelp, I noticed that several of the hidden, "not recommended" reviews are exact duplicates (albeit posted from different Yelp accounts), and in one case there are two reviews that appear to be nearly word-for-word copies of Cameron F's 9/12/2013 1-star review, except rewritten to give a positive spin and labelled 5-star. There are also positive reviews by Norman H, who appears to be the same person who posted the photos claiming that it is his business. ----- Sept. 2, 11:10pm: I sent the following in reply to to Adie H's response to my review: Actually, my main critiques here are: * One employee -- the supervisor -- was brusque. * Staff seemed not to be as knowledgeable as expected. * Giving away free product in exchange for writing *positive* reviews. Really negative experience and a total ripoff. I won't be coming back here. They were available and I needed myself and my kids to get treated. But the space and the woman there were totally unfriendly, no tv for kids to watch while they're getting treated, woman was rough with my daughter's hair. When I was finished my hair was like straw and I asked if they had any kind of leave in conditioner and I just got a "no." They didn't have water available for us! I had to run across the street to get some. For the prices they charge I'm extremely disappointed with the experience. I've been to two other salons and they were great. This was not. I visited Licenders with my child after traditional methods of lice treatment were unsuccessful. We were desperate to get rid of the lice. We drove over 2 hours to Licenders, after review of this really being our only option other than dangerous chemical treatments provided with a prescription. THE REAL PROBLEM HERE IS NOT THE LACK OF OVER THE COUNTER PRODUCT, BUT THE DIFFICULT AND LACK LUSTER INSTRUCTIONS FOUND ON THE INTERNET FOR USE WITH OTHER PRODUCTS. We spent the entire day at Licenders,. The clinician who helped us was amazing, the company she worked for: not so much. In a nut shell, we spent $1,000 for a treatment we could have done at home, had we had proper instruction. BUY THE AT HOME KIT AND TREAT YOURSELF. Their $75 price tag per HALF hour is outrageous considering their product is merely baking soda and Pantene Pro V conditioner. The best part? The post care instructions required me to personally do the same treatment to my kid for the next 7 days. A joke really. A note to the owner: Being a business owner myself, I can understand your need to run your business efficiently.What I cant respect is charging clients an OUTRAGEOUS price for something that is then instructed to do at home. You do understand this is simply setting yourself up to eventually have another client use these methods in a salon, charging a realistic price running you out of business. I wonder what factors were considered when placing your $2.50 price tag per minute for a service that requires the combing of baking soda through hair. Some fun facts: You can hire a C150 pilot at $150 an hour. A pro IT group can assist an entire small business for $150 an hour. The Yale Broadcast & Media Center allows production service for $100 per hour. Underwater welders, who DIVE DEEP INTO THE OCEAN AND USE FIRE IN THE WATER charge $100 per hour, Othodontists, and Anesthesiologists both charge $100-150 p hour. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER WAYS TO SPEND THIS MUCH MONEY, THAN ON THE COMBING OF HAIR. In a nutshell, the "salon" is merely old sink stations that leak all over clothing and the floor, with torn chairs, old stations, drug store hair care products, with Walmart wall decor with IKEA accents (I'm not kidding). For this price, I was expected a least a charged Kindle for the kids to play with. The best part of all of this really, was listening to the clinicians share their stories of hatred for the owner, who pay these ladies (who risk contracting lice everyday) almost nothing per hour, demand ridiculous hours, forcing the clinicians to drive across state borders to pick up shampoo due to terrible operational policies. And if things couldnt get any worse, my daughters clinician's phone rang a dozen times with the owner demanding certain things as i was paying $150 per hour. Not only am I sitting inside of an old, outdated, bargain brand salon, the "clinician is using bargain brand hair care products, and my clinician is also doubling as a receptionist? AND I PAID $150 P HOUR FOR THIS. Id like to note the 1 star was only because there wasn't a negative star option. Fortunately, no lice found so cannot comment on the treatments offered on site. I was referred to Licenders from my pediatrician's office. After my son's free lice check at Licenders it was discovered he had lice. I spent $400 on the removal, which although pricy, it was the most professional lice removal company I can imagine. They took care of everything from A-to-Z. This place is a COMPLETE SCAM!!! They charged me $951.00 for my daughter and I (both of our hair lengths of hair are over the shoulder!) we were only there for 2 hours and we were RUSHED! I watched the process thoroughly and can state as a fact that they literally only use: A MIX OF COCONUT CONDITIONER, BAKING SODA AND OLIVE OIL to comb through ur hair with a comb that you can get on amazon for 12$ yet they sell it for $30. The mint shampoo is all natural ingredients that u can literally just buy at a pharmacy. The heat that they use to "eliminate" the nits is a huge blow dryer and isnt confirmed that you won't get lice again. Not to mention they use the same stuff for every client so ur extremely exposed to getting it while ur there. The staff is so unprofessional and were cussing the entire time we were there. OMG! I feel the need to write back to this AWFUL human being and business owner. I can't believe she works with children!!!! Keep your kids away from her!!! Every few weeks to months she changes her reply to me on yelp, and it gets more hateful every time. She says that I demanded money back or threatened a bad review. This is a complete lie. To reiterate, I called the business owners to tell them of my awful experience (silly me, I thought they would want to know), and was treated like garbage. STAY AWAY FROM LICENDERS!!!!! Their service is a rip off and it is not effective. I only wish I had seen the negative reviews before I chose to go. I had a horrible experience after spending over $1800 for comb outs for 4 of us and finding bugs, including live bugs, in my son's head a few days later. There is NO reason the comb outs should take as long as they do but this is how they make money, nor is there any reason they should cost what they do. There are reputable, non-deceitful salons out there that do not price gauge you and instead educate you. One of them is Licelady of Westchester which treats lice cases for a fraction of the cost and far more effective results. I have spoken to the owner Norman Horowitz about my horrible experience of being deceived into getting 12 hours of unnecessary comb outs for $1800 and he "graciously" in his words offered a credit of $250. This company needs to be reported to the better business bureau for taking advantage of people in time of stress and not being up front about the total cost of their service. read more
