The care team was fantastic. All the nurses and doctors were great especially Alitza the activities coordinator.

I had a very traumatic and abusive experience here at the Larkin Community Hospital. I'm not sure if the if the management or administrators the over see this Mental Health department are aware of the type of care and treatment patients are getting here, but I can assure you that what I was put through by some of the nurse/staff here was absolutely morally wrong and very horrifying. I urge the hospital administration to thoroughly investigate the monstrous type of behavior of certain staff/employees and take appropriate action to ensure such an incident like what happened with does not occur again. Because I know I was not the first to experience this type of treatment and if no one steps in to intervene and solve this problem, I won't be the last. All staff members should be adequately trained in de-escalation techniques and compassionate care, particularly when dealing with individuals experiencing mental health crisis. There is no justifying the negligence of professional nurse/staff that have studied and trained for the position they're and in, and care little about the duties and responsibilities that come with that position. read more

I went to the emergency room here after a surgery because my surgeon recommended it. When I first arrived, the emergency room door was locked and they "screen" you before they let you in. NEVER in my life have I experienced an ER experience like this. Once I was inside, because I was worried I had deep vein thrombosis in my legs, I specifically requested an ultrasound on the legs. The doctors and nurses refused to do it and lied and said they couldn't because I couldn't lie on my back for them to do it. But I know this is a lie because when I got to Colombia, the nurse did it while I was standing no problem. (And I was OK thank goodness.) Instead, they wanted me to get a full CT scan, which of course would cost more, so I refused and questioned them again about why I wasn't getting the ultrasound. On top of that, the nurse who took my blood did not know what she was doing. The first time she took my blood she said "it didn't take" and had to do it again. She also proceeded to ask me about a needle mark on my arm (which was from my nurse who had to give me blood thinners after my surgery), but I couldn't help to think she was insinuating something, likely because she was insecure about what an awful job she was doing drawing my blood. It was terrible. I left, and I asked for discharge paperwork, but they would not provide it. The nurse walked me out and said I could wait in the lobby for my Uber, but then the reception kicked me out and said I couldn't wait in the lobby. I have never in my life experienced this kind of treatment at a hospital. I wish I went somewhere else because it was certainly a vulnerable time for me, and these "doctors" and "nurses" made it 10 times more difficult to get through recovery. read more

I will not recommend this hospital because instead of helping the patients on the 5th floor they are doing more harm than good. The rooms and floor is run down, the way the medicine and food is given is not good, they do not keep track of a patient ate or not. My family member was never asked if she took her food, if it wasn't for me taking food they would have not eaten or missed many meals. They just walk around yelling "breakfast, fruit time, lunch time" etc. They have both women and men in the same location, no therapist is there to help the patients or any recommendations. My grandma was admitted to larkin 3 weeks ago in the third floor and i can say that the staff treated my family and my grandma like if we were family the floor director Taymir was so attentive and caring she was always available for any questions. Yexy and Carlos the nurses my grandma had were amazing they where always on top of what she needed the cna were always making sure she eat and was clean. Larkin hospital is a good hospital for psychiatric issues. They have a strong team that can handle particular issues that other hospital can't or have a hard time with. The men and women that work for this hospital are specially trained for these types of patients and do a great job with them. They have a small ER that does not have many beds but they are a general Hosptial with a specialty in psychiatric patients. This hospital is located just off sunset road adjacent to South Miami Hosptial. read more

I was hospitalized for 3 days for surgery, sadly the care I received from the nurses was from 1 to 10 a 2, the cleaning was 1 (my wife had to change my bed, help me with personal care and pick up the trash from the floor and take out the bag of trash at the door) in the 3 days no one came to clean my room, I got tired of calling for the nurse, for the cna so much that they answered me and hung up on me, my wife had to go to the nurses' station and ask for what that I needed and even so they took a long time. When I arrived on the 2nd floor after my surgery October 30 at 12:30 pm, the nurse (Mariela) came to my room to start the IV and my medications after 4 hours, the cna same, they never brought me the things for personal care (I did I asked the nurse) I had to endure very strong pain due to so much negligence. The last day I came to see my nurse (Claudia) at the end of the day, how I was doing, she was not interested in finding out about my health, the IV was beeping and never came, I turned it off myself, my wife went to the nurses station and asked If someone was going to give the discharge papers, there I met the nurse who only made an out of place comment, she took away the IV and literally threw the dischar documents on the bed, she didn't explain anything at all and she left the room. . Unfortunately, the ethics of many nurses are very poor, they have no compassion for the sick or tlc and the hospital administration does nothing to improve this sad situation. read more

I got sent to the adolescent psych ward and was there for about a week. Let's just say this just made my problems worse. The staff is awful and pretty much no one speaks English. We have a nap time from 2 pm to 5 pm. The staff is rude, and they let bullying happen. They sedated my friend for being "too hyper" which is not okay because you're only supposed to be sedated when you are a threat to yourself or others. I hope to never get sent back here. read more

I wanted to send a huge thank you and compliment to Farah Chohan for helping me get a vaccine appointment at the Jackson Health North-Dade center in Opa-Laka. I was very impressed at your prompt responses and updates, not to mention how quickly you were able to secure a vaccination appointment for me. I've been checking with several sites here in Broward County and either receive no response or very delayed responses that are only speculative, or websites that always show no appointments available. Also, when I arrived at my appointment, the process was very efficient, fast and easy. Took only about 10 minutes to check in and get vaccinated and 10 minutes for observation. I was so relieved it wasn't one of the long line and hundreds of cars scenarios I've seen on the news. So far, I've had no more than a slight sore injection site. I don't know how you're managing all of this but I can't thank you enough. You're an angel and are providing a great service to the community. I've also let my PCP here in Fort Lauderdale know about your contact information, as he's had several patients struggling to get vaccinated. Took my daughter due to nausea and vomiting. Worst experience of her life. The ER staff at first appeared efficient taking out blood right away but then everything slowed to a crawl. She had to witness a male nurse or tech literally throw a patient on the floor and punch him over and over again. The young man was delusional but not violent or aggressive. They're supposed to be trained to handle patients like that. Is that the training they get? Are we in the dark ages? The staff making derogatory comments about the patients!! Dropping the F word constantly in front of patients. Absolutely unprofessional and scary. Go anywhere else but here. Horrible experience. They should all be fired and leave if they hate their jobs so much. No oversight apparently from management in this hospital. read more

I spent two days admitted in the ER (Covid had made beds elsewhere scarce, plus I was a unique case that made exactly where to put me a quandary). While obviously the experience wasn't something I'd qualify as positive, I will say the nurses and doctors there did seem to genuinely care, responding well and kindly to whenever I voiced an issue. The highlight was one of the nighttime ER nurses, Marilyn. I was going through a tough time when I got admitted, and despite being obviously very busy, she took special time to advise me and offer support above and beyond what one would expect. I swear, she seemed like an angel from heaven (and I'm usually an atheist). Time will tell, but her intervention might have well saved my life. So far, it has. read more

Horrific experience! I would give 0 stars if possible! Would not recommend to anyone if you can avoid this place. Was essentially left in my room with minimal nursing care & physician assessments. The food is barely edible & do not think that your dietary needs will be adhered to because it will not. My Vagus Nerve is paralyzed resulting in my stomach motility being impaired & thus requiring a specialized which was not honored during my admission. I ordered food from outside. In addition, I was refused any medications so am unsure as to why I was admitted outside of filling one of their beds to collect my insurance payment. Day three of being admitted and they had not bathed my mother, came to visit after work at around three pm and she hadn't had lunch yet. My poor mother was starving. I ask the nurse if they had brought her lunch and she straight faced lied to me. Saying she asked and was told she was fed. Never again will I allow her to be taken to this hospital. This is the worst hospital in the United States!!! Service is really bad especially if you arrive in the ER where nobody will see you unless you are bleeding and about to die. If not, you can be sitting around for hours before anybody even ask you what your name is and get some info before putting you on a waiting list in a very small room with others suffering on a long wait time. In my case I brought in my elderly mom for a UTI and she is weak and a diabetic with renal problems. The long wait was horrible for me and I could only imagine what she was feeling. I was already pissed about no available parking near that stupid hospital. Parking lot was packed and vehicles blocking other cars and I was forced to park two blocks away. I was worried my car would be towed away all because this hospital has limited parking. I soon regret not taking her to South Miami Hospital after my experience with my mom at Larkin. I followed my friend's bad advise of going to larkin to avoid delayed service at the ER at any other big hospital and never expected the lousy situation and care service she got at Larkin that day. In the end of a bad week for her there, she came home with the UTI and severely swollen and disoriented. Doctors seem ignorant and unsure why she came home sick and claim she was doing great on discharge. I disagree completely. She was not well on discharge and I had to rush her to another medical center that did help her. Dont send your loved ones to this crap hospital! read more

Being a teaching hospital, you get treated by residents that promptly will become doctors and also doctors that seek to heal and cure anything you are facing. Larkin lurks death!! Just the name Larkin gives me goosebumps and makes my face and shoulders squirmish at the sound of it! My tio abuelo (which I am his legal guardian) visited this hospital because it was what his insurance accepted - Trust me, I would of had him at Baptist but the insurance company did not cover it. Every time he was admitted, he always came back home worse. The hospital isn't the most sanitary. In my tio's room they had syringes from his shots on his rolling table next to his bed....seriously!!?? That must be breaking some sort of health code! As far as the food is concerned, my tio hated the food there and he is NOT a picky eater. And the cleanliness was lacking and the furniture in the room was wasted away... Everything was wasted away, from nursing, to doctors to the facility. Avoid Larkin at ALL COSTS!! read more

Best Hospital! They consistently scored an "A' on the Leapfrog Surveys and were rated the safest hospital in South Florida due to their outcomes. I was treated by Dr. Wolf at their Neuroscience Center for a brain tumor. Incredible technology...I was treated in the morning and was home in the afternoon. When I was first diagnosed I thought it was a death sentence, but Dr. Wolf and the staff at Larkin showed me there is hope. World Class Care! I Highly recommend this Teaching Hospital. I have been to many hospitals and this is the best I have experienced. I also heard their Orthopedic Center is world class. read more

Operator at this facility is extremely rude!! Barely can speak English and is unhelpful and condescending. She actually laughed when I asked to page a physician for the physician i work for. She said this is a Teaching Hospital and cannot reach the doctors!! I don't post negative reviews but this lady needs to be seriously evaluated by HR!! read more
