Nice plaza in the heart of EP…read more We stumbled upon this little park after a dinner downtown. There was live music going on and lights that drew us here in the after dinner evening. It's a nice size plaza with Jimenez' Plaza de Los Lagartos as a centerpiece. Surprisingly, the statue replaced live alligators the city held here in the pond in the 1950s. They have long pong and chess tables available on the east side of the plaza. Plenty of benches available for people watching. This location played host to the free screening of a true classic "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." The screening was part of the Plaza Classic Film Festival. Great renovated space is open to the public and communicated the history and culture of the city of El Paso very well.

Every once in awhile I took my son to run around and buy an ice cream from one of the many ice cream trucks that park in the area. I've even had picnics with friends and family here. This is a pretty nice park to host a family reunion or party. It isn't as nice as Memorial Park or others but it's alright. There's lots of grass, baseball fields and a nearby recreation center (named after Gary Del Palacio, an El Paso businessman and community activist who was murdered in 2005). There's also walking trails and tennis courts here. Whenever we're in monsoon season (during the summer months usually), this park floods a lot. I've seen and heard a lot of tadpoles here. A huge pond forms all over the park. As gross as it may sound, I think people actually get into the pond/water. I would advise against it. There might be dog poop, who knows what else can be in the water? Overall, a pretty good park. Check it out at least once or twice. Pack a picnic lunch, chairs, blanket and visit. Don't bring beer or wine! Sorry!

The facility is setup with separate entries for spectator viewing and there are dedicated spectator bathrooms and locker room for those who are swimming. What really stood out to me is how they have an upper deck for spectators and there are plenty of rows for friends and family to watch. If you are interested in getting a swim workout in there are two ways to go about it. You can make a reservation ahead of time for a one hour session or you can roll the dice and simply walk-in. I have yet to make a reservation because the lanes are so large that it's pretty easy to grab a lane. Each lane is able to hold up to four swimmers. I've lucked out and have only had to share at most a lane with one other swimmer. Now when it comes to pricing you can pay for a swim session at a time, at the price of .... wait for it ... it's quite unbelievable ... for three dollars! You can also get unlimited swim for thirty days for only $30.

I normally get around on my EV (aka my eBikeKit-assisted CruzBike), but it was out of commission most of February/early March 2023, so my backup plan was to continue exercise via my much better half's upright (Specialized Windrock), cycling to/from this marvelous facility. The hours are extremely convenient, the cost minimal (especially if you buy a month- long pass), but the best part are the personnel. Manager Victor and the lifeguards (particularly Karen & Christian) are very attentive (I always feel safe, especially when doing my Lao in the water), friendly and professional. Fellow swimmers are likewise friendly , and there is an excellent lift system to accommodate wheelchair users. I really like and appreciate the numerous grab bars, especially in the showers. When cycling from Hawkins Pool, I found myself in need of an energy boost, which is "Untapped Maple Waffles", which I've purchased both from Crazy Cat Cyclery (North Stanton & Baltimore) and online. El Paso is extremely fortunate to have such an excellent facility with extremely competent individuals in charge; definitely, my coveted "iWheel of Approval!" goes here!

Well supposly if you go in the swimmer area and then go into the kids area it's bad cause of the wate which obviously is weird so my mom decided to go talk to the manager and no she is not a karen or whatever for talking to the manager she had an reason to talk to him and she came back and said that he said it got to crowded in the kids area and the swimmer area which was totally different from what the lifeguards said which is crazy that they just lied to our faces and honestly the swimmer area and kid area was NOT crowded at all only one lane in the swimmer area was being used by a younger kid like younger than my sister and we even saw her go on the pool with the slide and she didn't get in trouble but we did? made no sense and it was just very weird and the manager was very petty to my mom which is not correct to do and the lifeguards lied straight to our face and even if it was true and that something with the pool water, fix it! it's not our problem you can't fix your own pool that has been up for a while and no wonder because the water looks bubbly which is not because of the water splasing onto each other it's gross water and the stairs up to the slide are disgustin as well, like hire a cleaner if you can because i do not wanna be stepping on that. Over all this pool sucks no offense, it's gross and all the above and the manager, Eric or Erick, please be better manger and stop being so petty you are aleast 40 or older to be acting like this like if your pool is causing this annoyance to you, you should even own a pool or work at it. There's music playing the entire time and there's also a cool little water slide that requires a certain height to go down it, so that those will be able to to stand in the water after landing in the water. Being my first time, I had questions and different interactions with the staff and all were kind and helpful. Signs say no food, but there are vending machines with a sign that reads "use at your own risk". It's fitting because my first attempt at buying a bag of chips, I was shorted and the chips never came out. The second time (yea, I really wanted a snack), I went for a Reese's and it was a win. So yes...at your own risk. There's a little outdoor area for you to stand and dry without exiting. May be a cool place to bring the kids for the summer or even a small little birthday gathering. There's a splash pad outside for the littles and some picnic area seating under a couple of gazebos. First come, first serve I imagine. My kids wanna come back, so we we'll be back. A little over an hour was all we needed to enjoy.
