I loved Red Hawk when we first moved here. I would say the course has degraded and the prices have upgraded. The fairways, greens, and tee boxes just aren't it! The last two times we've gone to get food afterwards, the restaurant has been closed due to an event happening. We were told that we could get hot dogs if we were hungry. We left. I understand they're under construction, but if their restaurant already cannot handle the customers from the golf course and for the events they will cater, then why are you expanding?! This used to be the golf course we would always drive to and/or take visitors to when we played. I will consider other courses from here on out. Very disappointed lately. The new golf carts also do not let you drive anywhere on the course. We don't recklessly drive on the course, but the carts actually slow the rate of play. It's awful and frustrating. read more

Bunkers --- if you're going to have this many bunkers, they should be playable. If you can handle that You will be well on your way to justifying the green fees. read more

This is a solid 4.5 course. Fantastic views, some nice challenges (lots of sand traps and water that comes into play on 4 or 5 holes), very well maintained tee boxes, fairways; and exceptionally pleasant staff. Lots and lots of rolling hills. If you can find a flat spot on the fairways or undulating greens, let me know! The only negative is that some of the fairways were water-soaked and some of the sand traps had standing water. I was visiting the Las Cruces area from the state of Washington. I had never played in this region, and likewise this was my first time at Red Hawk. Today, (01-16-2024), I had a 10:20 tee time on a pretty cold morning. I arrived and checked in at 9:45 and was asked if I wanted to purchase range balls. I purchased a medium bucket. As I finished my purchase the employee I was dealing with instructed other team members to assist the grounds crew in setting up the range. I finished loading my cart and went to the range ball machine. I had to unlatch and open the garage door for that machine. After obtaining my basket of balls, I was informed the range would be closed for a significant time while the grounds crew finished mowing. I was told I could use the rest of the practice area but not the driving range. I tee'd off on time and gave my entire basket of range balls to the Starter, (Lonnie). Lonnie was great and suggested I talk to the pro shop after my round. I informed the afternoon staff that I was charged for a basket of balls I wasn't allowed to use. Even after pointing out I was visiting from out of the state; I wasn't even offered a refund on the range balls. I was merely informed they would address the issue with the young man from whom I purchased the range balls. I am a member of a country club in Washington and found it very unprofessional to solicit the purchase of range balls when the clerk KNEW the range was not open for use! The course was in decent shape considering the weather conditions the staff has had to deal with. read more

Note: This is a review about the restaurant only. This is the golf club snack bar disguised as a mediocre restaurant. I don't play golf. But I love the Pastaggio's on Harrelson pizza. So since I had a dog sitting job out here I thought I'd swing by and get a pizza and a beer before heading that way. Pizza was just as good as the other location. Service was actually pleasant though sporadic. At first we were overwhelmed by "is everything ok" and then ... crickets. Everyone was super pleasant but they were constantly and loudly moving tables and chairs and seemed to be randomly running in and out waiting tables. I saw 3 or 4 servers and no one seemed to have an area to specifically wait. So it was always hard to track down your server. The menu is limited. The pasta is NOT made fresh on site. There is a full bar - score! Large patio that faces the driving range. Live music (He was playing jazz Christmas songs on the saxaphone!) outside. Get your pizza to go. read more

So yesterday was the 4th of July and both my brother and I felt like playing some golf knowing that it was going to be packed everywhere but my brother was able to get us in for a 10:30am tee time so off we went. We arrived about an hour early but the Marshall was cool and let us play on at 930 instead. Let me tell you this golf course is beautiful and yet feisty because she ate a bunch of my golf balls yesterday. I lost count of how many skew took from us but it was a handful...LOL...we did get slowed up a bit due to some slow play ahead of us but nothing to to bad and like I said my brother and I truly enjoyed this place. I was visiting and my daughter lives within miles of this golf course. I set up a few private lessons with Matt Sheehan and also played 9 holes. In my opinion this is a hidden gem! The course is lush with beautiful mountains and rolling hills. 5 Tee's for all levels. The staff was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Loved the range and the chipping/putting area. My lessons were fantastic. I have been playing a few years and Matt made things simple and has a great presence and personality. I feel like I learned so much in the 2 hours we had together and the price was very reasonable. He gave me so much information I had to write notes in my phone afterwards so I wouldn't forget!! If they can build some condo's in the area for visiting golfers I think this club will be a great golf destination! This review was for the golf course only. Don't go on a Saturday unless you like having a (according to the Pro) "normal five hour round". Ridiculous. And we saw a ranger once. Won't be going on Saturday again. And my bad for hitting into the "sand", but the blacktop parking lot was softer than that hard pack. They are in it for the money on the weekends, not for your enjoyment. read more

The course in in descent shape. It's the only course in the area with green fairways and maintenance is kept up on the fairways and greens. The sand traps are in need of some attention but still descent. The play however was slow as we experienced and even skipped three holes due to super slow play and marshals not pushing play. We saw one group fishing for balls on number 3 for well over 10 minutes. Two groups were waiting on tee during this time. We finally decided to jump to number 6 and no one was in front of us the rest of the round. read more

Definitely take some lessons from Johnny Montes if you are having some issues. He is very astute at identifying what you are doing wrong, and helping you correct it. Great personality on top of it. Played the course once so far and it is absolutely beautiful. The driving range is well maintained and never seems to be real crowded. Of all the driving range opportunities in the area this one has the best "on course" feel about it. read more

This is my favorite golf course hands down in Las Cruces and top 5 in the New Mexico. The golf course is challenging and very scenic. My favorite part about this golf course is the challenge on each shot. You must be creative with your shots and be able to move the ball around. I will say, I do wish the course was a firmer, especially the fairways and around the greens because they are a little to wet in the summer. Other than that though you can't beat this place and the price! $12 for two hours of golf before sunset?? That's what you call a deal! I was able to stop by the restaurant for a beer and some food and it was delicious! The customer service was great both here and in the golf shop. The head pro Chris Ortiz greeted us when we arrived and showed us around the facility. He did not need to do that but he did and it was insightful. If you have a chance to play any course in Las courses I would highly recommend Red Hawk! When you arrive and when you leave you are treated like family! read more

Went for drinks with a friend. It was a Monday at 6pm. Only a handful of customers but only one person was both bartender & server. The drinks were poorly made. I paid $8 for a well drink that I could only consume half of because it was so bad. Gorgeous view on the patio, but I wont go back. read more

After a practice session tried the pizza. Atmosphere is everything and the patio has a full view of the organ pipes. Service ok not too pushy but not overly attentive. Pizza was spot on had meat pizza which was meaty,cheesy, and veggie. Better than most pizza that is dine in. Nice for a short ride. Let me first say this review has nothing to do with the course itself, but it is about the restaurant. This golf course used to be my favorite place to come. It was warm, welcoming and a second home to me. I came to visit since moving away 4 years ago and I am appalled. The customer service at "Pastaggios" was THE WORST customer service I have ever had. Most of the servers paid no attention to the customers, and we waited for over 20 minutes to get a drink. I asked what kind of dark beers were served here and they told me to go look inside. I was thinking about having my wedding here because this is where me and my fiancé met, however I will never be coming here ever again. Customer service is a bare minimum expectation at restaurants. We love coming to Red Hawk for a meal. They have a restaurant with a dog friendly patio. The service is great! We've always had such helpful, attentive, and personable servers. My husband loves to golf so I thought going here would be fun while we were in town. Then we could stay and grab a bite to eat as the golf courses in Dallas tend to have amazing food. Boy was I wrong. The golf course is beautiful but the food is awful! The pretzels were hard and cold and the cheese tasted like Chipotle's queso ew! You'd think in New Mexico, they'd have great green Chile burrito but it tasted like slimy slop. The burger was over cooked and lacked seasoning. We went for the first time on Saturday to enjoy the $2.50 mimosas. They ran out of champagne, they ran out of chicken wings, they ran out of napkins. My friend had hair in her food. The menu advertised 4 steak tacos, they gave us three. When we asked to speak to the manager she did not apologize and pretty much said they were not out of the above items and blamed it on our waiter because he's new. The waiter by the way Vince was awesome and very apologetic. She never came back again to check on us. This place refused me to use the driving range because there was a tournament on the course. The driving range was completely empty and open and the tournament had already started. This was one of the worst experiences we've ever had. We had terrible service. We waited for 30 minutes to just get water (which tasted like hose water) and one drink. We did order pretzels. They were so over cooked and burnt I could have thrown them and killed someone. We did let the server know and she ignored us. She also ignored us when we asked for more drinks. We were sitting with other people which could have been considered a group of 8. However everyone went to the bar for their drinks because the service was so bad. At the end of the night we got our bill which included drinks we never ordered and a mandatory gratuity because there were more than six of us at the table. I don't see how we could have been charged gratuity when most of the table waited on themselves. Literally they all went to the bar inside and ordered their drinks from the bartender. I've never once posted a review on here because I've actually never been compelled to do so. It's just that this experience was really one of the worst ever.
