    A trailer, not a truck

The tacos here are legit. Actually, the gorditas and tortas are better. I'm a recovering addict of Baja street food, and while this isn't exactly Baja estilo, at the very least, it's methadone for this junkie. I'm tempted to climb through the ordering window to hug the people inside, but I fear that they might not feed me after that. I haven't tried everything, but I keep going back to the asada. Cheese or cream goes on a lot of their menu items. Nothing has struck me as extraordinary, but all of it tastes Spanish-speaking. Muy delicioso. I don't know exactly when they show up, but I think they set up shop mid-afternoon. Their sign tells me they are open til 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and for the summer they are showing up on Thursdays as well as Sundays. If you want this stuff Monday through Wednesday, you better get it to go.

    Taco de lengua! Cow tongue!

This place is so close to my house that I don't know how I haven't eaten here before! Las Gorditas is bringing authentic, delicious Mexican food to Louisville, and as a California native (and a member of a large, Mexican family) I am loving it! My friend and I stopped by for dinner one night last week and thankfully, the weather was nice. She ordered a beef burrito and a bottled coke and I ordered a chicken taco with lettuce, sour cream, tomato, and avocado, an el pastor taco, a taco de lengua (cow tongue!), elote en vaso (corn in a cup with sour cream, mayo, parmesan cheese, and chile), and a big ol' cup of horchata! For those of you who haven't tried horchata, it is a milky beverage usually made from rice, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon. Sometimes the ingredients vary a little. Just a tip though- it is great with spicy foods! The food was AMAZING. It was hot, fresh, and made with love! I think my favorite was the el pastor taco- and the elote en vaso, of course (I am a corn addict). The pork was juicy and tender and the pineapple complimented it perfectly. The elote en vaso had just the right amount of everything in it. Make sure you remember to stir it all together! Oh, and try the red sauce with your food, too! SOOO SPICY! The only thing that sucks here is that it is a food truck so there isn't much seating, but what little seating they do have (two tables that can seat about 4 people) is covered by an awning. One other thing that sorta sucks is their hours are limited- make sure you check that they are open before you go because I believe they are only open two days a week! Anyway, I highly recommend Last Gorditas- this was my first time but it will certainly not be my last. I'll be back to try the tamales!

It took about 11 minutes for my wife and I to finish our three corn tacos, one gordita and one quesadilla. And for 11 minutes we almost thought we were back in southern California. Then we remembered we were both wearing down jackets, it was a blistering thirty-six degrees outside, and the closest body of water was the Ohio River, not the Pacific Ocean. Nonetheless, the Mexican food at this food trailer was legit. Our order of three corn tacos (two marinated pork or "pastor" and one carnitas), one gordita (steak or "asada") and quesdailla (slow-cooked shredded beef or "desebrada") came with a plastic bag of limes quarters and two types of salsa -- one red and one green. The quesadilla was decent, but a little bit soggy because of the meat my wife ordered. (If you go for the quesadilla, get it with asada or carnitas.) The gordita was solid -- two thick tortillas with smashed beans, Mexican cheese, lettuce and meat. It was tasty, but a little bit hard to eat. But the real highlight of the meal was the tacos. Two corn tortillas filled with meat, onions, cilantro, cheese (+$0.25) and about a quarter of an avocado (+$0.25). And when I say "filled", I mean FILLED. Finally, as we were waiting for our food to be made, an SUV rolled up and an older lady wearing house slippers jumped out of the car and handed a plastic bag full of food to the cashier. After she left I asked the cashier about the contents of the bag and I got the scoop: two types of tamales, chicken with green sauce and pork with red sauce, $1.00 a piece and entirely home/handmade by her grandma -- the older lady in the house slippers. At a $1.00 a piece the temptation was too strong and we added a pork tamale to our order for dinner. Needless to say, we weren't on the road for more than two minutes after devouring our meal and my wife started unwrapping the foil to the tamale. It was delicious. A bit skimpy on the meat, but the masa was perfectly season and moist. The trailer is there Fridays-Sundays from 3pm-1am (although we showed up at around 2pm and at least one other car had been served before us.) The cashier said that when the weather warms up they'll be there Thursday-Monday. It's cash only and if it's a cold day, be prepared to eat in your car. (It looks like on warm days, they have some plastic chairs which they set up for their customers.) Finally, you can find this little gem at the intersection of S. Watterson Trail and Bardstown Road, right next to the Cox's Smokers Outlet. At the end of the day, $13.00 is a small price to pay in order to 1) find a truly authentic go-to Mexican spot in Louisville and 2) pretend you're in SoCal -- even if it's only for 11 minutes.

The line was five or six people deep around 9pm on a Saturday night. Parking lot nearby was packed with cars steadily rolling in. Side tables, of which there are three or four, were also full. I was hungry and excited to try the local taco truck that seems very popular and definitely smells delicious whenever I drive by. I decided on a carne asada burrito with added avocado and a carnitas gordita, with red sauce on the side. It was about a 20 minute wait and then I got my bag of goodies to go. The portions are generous for what it is: taco truck food. You can fill up for around $10. I'm just glad I got the red sauce, which is very spicy (to me). For most spicy food lovers, it might not be. Overall, the food was fine but bland without the sauce. It needed salt and...honestly, sabor. It kind of feels like it's been blanded down for the local palate. Seems like people love it but I'd like a bit more spice, not necessarily heat, just something more to make my mouth happy I guess.

This place lives up to the hype. The best part is their open late when other good restaurants around town close this place is hopping. I really enjoyed the flavors of the ceviche tostadas and the tenderness of the beef tongue tacos. I never go to the same place back to back but this place is an exception. Service is ok but what can you expect from a food truck experience. I like that they have a couple of tables set up to enjoy the food.

Tostada ceviche. It'sssssss Great! Comes in shrimp and crab

I had tacos and they were good. A tad oily but price for that taste is well worth the visit. The sauce was well made.
