Terrible service it's all I can say. We were on the line waiting to be seated and when it was our turn the waiter points us to a back seat by the window next to the brooms and the garbage collector. He didn't even bother showing us to the table. We waited to try a different waitress and she was kind enough to move us to another table inside close to the kitchen. Then another 15 minutes passed until someone came to our table so they could take our order. The food came out quickly and it was great. But if I ever comeback it would only be for takeout because their service is awful. read more

Came in on Tuesday evening so it wasn't very busy which was nice. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Loved my drink, very tasty!! Just one was enough the margarita I had was huge and it came with two coronitas. My husband had the michelada and he loved it. The food was very good as well. Their ceviche is just perfect. Came here on a busy Sunday afternoon. They have a great selection of sea food platters and had a live band playing. The service was not great, it took nearly 45 minutes to get my daughter something to drink -- which we asked for nearly 5 times. I placed an appetizer order 5 min after being seated and placed my daughters order about 30 min afterwards. Got her order first which I didn't mind but then had to ask for the appetizer order almost an hour being there. This restaurant is super casual,nothing fancy. The chairs are very uncomfortable. The whole floor around the restaurant is dirty with food. Bus boys use a dirty towel for every table and slide the crumbs onto the floor. Seems like no one brooms during the day. You can pay $2 for a 16oz horchata or $4.50 for a 32oz, which makes no damn sense. The can serving their micheladas has a filler in it, so the can looks like it can hold about 36oz, but the filling it holds a little more than 20oz. Pictures look nothing like what the food is when it comes out. They give you less pieces of shrimp and lobster than shown. Would not recommend for a family lunch or even a date. read more

I just had dinner with my husband at this establishment. Service was extremely terrible, extremely unhealthy and extremely dirty!!! Our server Anna was extremely unprofessional and not very clean. I repeatedly had to ask her for different items including the food we had ordered from her but she was too busy joining her coworkers on the patio bench eating shrimp and drinking beer out of a to-go cup. I finally flagged down what seemed to be management (the person bringing out buckets of beer and food for the staff during service) and told her how extremely unhappy we were witnessing our server eating shrimp and sucking all of her fingers and not washing her hands while attending our and other tables. How disgusted we were that she was brining us our food and plates without washing her hands. It was extremely disgusting to see how all of the staff sat there eating their food and drinking beer on the down low -- while the tables were not being serve appropriately. Once, I address "the manager who said she was the hostess" she told our server. Our server Anna came back to our table and told us that she removed our gratuity and that a tip was not necessary. How do you put a gratuity on a table of 2 people? My husband and I work in hospitality for over 15 years and have never witnessed such tragic service. If you wish to stay alive and healthy; I DO NOT recommend that you come to this establishment -- they do not practice safety guidelines of the CDC nor were precautions for COVID-19. If you have to tell your server to wash her hands before she brings you your food there's clearly something wrong...If you have to tell your server to bring you plates 10 minutes after she brings your food there's clearly something wrong...if you have to tell your server that you rather wait for her to finish her meal so that you can finish your meal there's clearly something wrong...If you have to tell your server to please bring you the check because you rather leave then to finish your food that may have been contaminated (due to being unsanitary) there's clearly something wrong! Our check was $84 for a party of 2 there's clearly something wrong with this establishment! The only thing that I regret was not having taken pictures to share with you on the post to at least embarrass these disgusting employees. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN. read more

I had the worst experience here this past Friday. It all started when we walked in. No one sat us so we sat ourselves. We waited about 20-30 min for someone to come take our order (mind you it was 4pm and empty). We finally got a waitress who realized that our complimentary app wasn't even on the table. She noticed we had an infant and didn't even offer a highchair. We asked her one and she forgot because someone else decided to offer us one. She came over and took our order. Our food came out super quick so we began to eat. During the course of our meal- ANA our waitress did not stop one second at our table asking us who we ae or if we needed anything. I saw her walk by and just walk past us. My mom did not like her soup that she ordered. Finally when ANA wanted to take her sweet time to ask my mom told her what she didn't like and my mom specifically said, "I am not mad at you because you just take the food but I am letting you know to tell them." During their talk ANA got like frustrated and responded to my mom, "That is what I said in the beginning," with a big attitude. I am sorry but you do not raise your voice at customer for any reason. My mom was not attacking her all she did was simply answer ANA's question. So because of this we didn't see ANA wait on us anymore. She didn't even bother to give us the bill while she gave every table theirs- continued to ignored us. My mom got up and paid at the front- NO WE DID NOT TIP ANA because from the beginning she wasn't being aware of her attitude with us. I hope they take this review and do something about their staff because this was ridiculous. She was so unprofessional and rude. I met some friends at Las Islas Marias on a rainy Sunday night and we were surprised to find out crowded it was. We opted to sit in the bar because we could order from the menu there, and there were seats available. I was excited about a good margarita, unfortunately there wasn't one... they were served in large goblets (though there is a smaller one available) for a whopping $10, which I don't mind paying if they're made by hand and are delicious. These however, came from a machine and were sour and boring. My friend ordered a steak which he was told once all of our food arrived, was unavailable. I ordered the small portion of seafood paella and...where do I start... it was pictured in the menu in a paella pan, so I was excited about that idea. However it arrived in a large terra cotta bowl and looked more like a loose seafood risotto than paella. It was very salty, and while there was loads of seafood in it, the saltiness took over the flavors. I ordered a bottle of Mexican Coke (cane sugar, not corn syrup - it's excellent and hard to find) but it never arrived, a can did instead so I drank that rather than attempt to get another. They brought us some ceveche with chips and very hot green salsa as a complimentary starter (which they do for everyone), which was really great especially with some lime, however the shrimp empanadas were pretty boring. Overall, I most likely wouldn't go back, but the place was very crowded and I have to believe that means there are good things there - I just didn't have any of them. **also, Yelp has it listed in Humbolt Park, which you can tell by the address is wrong. I put 1 Star because I had to and because we've received good food from there before. However, I spent $137 on my husband's birthday dinner on Friday and when we brought it home it looked awful. The crab legs were cut short and blackened, like not red. Also the langostinos were mostly okay but not great, I took a pic of those. The shrimp was the only thing that was good. We were so hungry we made the best of it. But so unsatisfied that we went to the other location in the brickyard and ordered the same thing and they were larger and bright red & so much more tastier. I will never go back to this location and I feel ripped off of $137 which is a lot. Not to mention my husband's dissatisfaction on his special day. So far the best of all Islas Marias in Chicago. Try the crawfish "langostinos" this is the dish to die for. I don't really know why some people complained about the food in this place in case they don't know this is not the typical American seafood restaurant in fact is one of many mexican style seafood, Nayarit to be exacts. If you can not deal with spicy or the real look of a fish don't go here keep driving until you find red lobster or something similar. read more

I came here for a friend's birthday and boy was it delicious. I'm not sure why the other reviews aren't so hot because I had a great experience. It is important to like mariscos when you go, because that's pretty much all they have, but it's done right. The waitress told us that the first Islas Marias was in LA which makes sense because it has a beachy/California feel somehow. On May 1 we went here to celebrate a Birthday thinking it was going to be great like most reviews... I think Not! We called ahead the Monday prior trying to make reservation for Mariachi and a group of 16 . They told me they don't take reservations and to call the morning of and it will be set. I called at 9 since the person who answered the phone said they would be open to find out Ooooo they weren't open .... then we tell them we will be there at 630 and need the Mariachi to be there and we get there to find out the Mariachis left!!!! Was I livid ! They were supposed to sing happy birthday and all and that never happened. I asked to speak with the manager and he tells me I should have made a reservation prior and I was supposed to put a deposit for the Mariachi.. here's a piece of advice make sure when you can talk to someone who understands both Spanish and English because I spoke both and still ruined it all! First off, I never really intended on eating at this joint. My friend and I were actually on our way to Applebee's (moreso for convenience and alcohol than anything else) but this restaurant just happened to catch my eye. We were initially hesitant to enter - namely because we knew nothing about the place and hoped there was booze. But we decided that adventure was our best option - good or bad and that ANYTHING would be better than Applebee's. But we were wrong. Let's start with the good. There was booze. Unfortunately when I ordered a Sangria, I was not advised that it was non-alcoholic and was met with a bottle that tasted nast! Undrinkable. My compadre ordered a strawberry margarita which, from what I understand, was standard, at best. The horchata was stellar but that's hardly a thing to boast about (has anyone ever had a BAD horchata?). Now the food. And I can't be sure if it's part of their scheme to starve you to the point of not actually caring what your food actually tastes like whence it arrives but we waited FOREVER! And this joint was NOT hop'in, mind you. When it finally DID arrive, I was disappointed to find that the shrimp tacos were deep-fried. Again, this was not specified to me prior to ordering. Also, the portion of the food was RIDICULOUS in comparison with the over-encompassing, cheap plates. I WILL say the rice was quite delightful but there was absolutely NO seasoning to the shrimp and NO sauce. My compadre ordered the fish tacos and complained of the same. I resorted to dosing globs of salsa into my tortillas in order to get the dry, tastlessness down my gullet. And then to end this misery of a meal, we waited FOREVER for our check. I contemplated getting up and walking out on several occasions but resisted due to the courtesy of my lunchmate who insisted we pile up our plates and push them off to a corner to flare-signal our waitress. She's a far better person than I. Eventually, we obtained said check and reluctantly paid. We walk-of-shamed out the door and made sure to avert our gaze from the Applebee's in the distance. read more

I always wanted to try this place but now that I did, I just felt that I throw my money away. When we arrived the place was busy but there was a couple waitresses seating down. We decided to seat ourselfs down to a clean table. Waited for 15 minutes to have somebody come and ask us if we waited to drink anything and also received our menus. What I notice was that this place is not organized and they do not have great nor good service at all but, I decided to try their food since everyone is bragging their food is great. My son had the bacon wrap shrimp, my wife had the breaded shrimp, and I had the oysters appetizer and the octorpus in chili hot sauce. I was disappointed in the food preparation and overall taste, this place is not what it appears. After I had to force myself to eat he food, we waited patiencely to get the bill. After waiting almost 2 1/2 hours just so other waitress to ask us if everything was ok. We did tell her to get our bill. 10 minutes later we received our bill and they started to clear our table. 30 minutes later still nobody came back to pick up our bill and/or thank us for coming in. I just decided to take the bill to the register only to wait another 10 minutes to pay when their is nobody in line. Really bad customer service and the place is dirty too. I would not recommend this place because the food is not that great and they really have terrible customer service. As for the tip I did not leave one because they did not deserve it, and they want $15 an hour. This is what my family and experience and we will definitely not be returning to this restaurant ever. read more

Unfortunately used to like this place not anymore, waiter was a mess had no idea what she was doing, took for ever to bring the appetizer, bring napkins, drinks or lemons. We order one kids meal, and three adults plates, they did not bring them all at once. brought one dish then after 10-15 minutes the next one and so. my Shrimp was cold as if they pulled it our of the fridge. And the Kids meal never arrived! until i spoke with manager then they brought it, my poor kid did not enjoy her meal at all because by the time it arrived we had already given our food to share! manager would not attempt to do anything for us, so sad. read more

Hostess decided to seat a family before my family because the lady was complaining even though we got there before them and had already waited 45 mins. It only goes downhill from there. We didn't receive my sons meal because another waitress took our order and my sisters meal had to be returned twice because they kept giving her the wrong order. I'm a sea-food fanatic, when it comes to "mariscos," I have no limit. But today was the first time EVER I refused to eat a "vuelve a la vida." I've eaten" mariscos" from dozens & dozens of restaurants from around the continent, but I've never tasted something so disgusting. The dish came to me at room temperature, and the first spoon full of the dish, just tasted like if it would have been sitting there since the morning, with that fishy yucky taste. To finish it off, after I told the waiter that it tasted funny and I didn't like it, he just asked if I would like to take it home, and they even charged me for it, full price!!!! To make the long story short if you're looking for a sea-food restaurant to celebrate a good occasion do NOT come to this location, you're just going to leave with disappointment. read more

I was here on Friday night viewing the Cotto boxing match. During the boxing match it was standing room so after the match I placed my order and to my dismay the kitchen was closed. I was happy to see the manager reopened the kitchen. I had a seafood stuffed grilled pineapple, the presentation was a 10+ and the flavor was amazing. I had it to go and shared it with another restaurateur and she was just as amazed . Horrible food and service. We ordered oysters for appetizers and they came out at the same time as our meals. The oysters were room temp instead of cold. The meet in the fajitas was so tough it could not be eaten. The paella looked like it had been sitting out for a while and I found a hair in the rice. When we told the waitress about the oysters and fajitas she gave us an attitude like--so what do you want me to do? She offered to bring us a new order but at that point we lost our appetites. When the bill came we were charged for both the oysters and fajita platter (which wasn't eaten). We talked to the manager and she was unapologetic and kept saying that the food is made fresh every day and the oysters are taken out of the fridge right before they are served. She eventually took off the fajita plate from our bill after we were clearly unhappy. We have been to this restaurant several times before and the food has always been good but this time the food was horrible and the service was even worse. We will not be returning. read more
