I was excited to hear about a Rooftop on the West Side of Chicago. A friend of mine invited me out to an event that was being held at TNT Rooftop. Cool. Even though there is street parking, you have to get arrive early to get a parking spot. There was a nice security at the door to assist you inside. I was lucky to find a park right in front of the place. I walked inside and was amaze by the decor and ambience. Nice music, seating area and bar to order your drinks. The service was good. Now here is where this review lost stars. The Food. Very pricey and mediocre. I ordered the supposedly Super Nacho Platter for $18.00 which I paid more with the tax. My food arrived in a black syform container with lack of meat, cold and tasteless. A lady sitting across from me order the chicken wing platter for $32.00 which she ended up paying around $40.00. Very disappointing to pay this much for a few wings and fries. I don't mind supporting neighborhood businesses. Now we are paying more for the ambience than the food and drinks. read more

The customer service was extremely disappointing. The bartender was rude, dismissive, and had an attitude the entire time. She never once checked in to see if I needed anything or if everything was okay, and every interaction felt snappy and unwelcoming. I ordered from the happy hour menu and paid $10 for two tiny sliders, which felt very overpriced for the portion size. On top of that, gratuity was automatically included, which may explain why there seemed to be little concern about providing decent customer service. read more

I am all for supporting black businesses but my experience with TNT rooftop today was not what I expected. I had reservations they placed Us in the room provided water and eventually complimentary bread after that no one even came to take our orders to ask us if we needed anything I had to ask the security guard to notify the server no one never came to see if we needed anything me and my party got up and left. I've been to multiple black businesses and I will have to say this was by far the worst experience I've ever had TNT Restaurant please do better respectfully. read more

Definitely a hidden gem on Chicago's westside. We came here because of a recommendation and it did not disappoint. It was only a 15 min drive from our downtown hotel and parking on the street was super easy. Everyone was friendly and accommodating from the security at the door to our server. I had a wonderful experience. I've dined in once, and did takeout twice. The decor and ambience is beautiful. It is a bit small on the inside, but the rooftop has a large area for seating. There are two fully stocked bars. We ordered the seafood sampler which came with lobster, salmon bites, and shrimp. We loved every morsel of this. We also had the salmon entree and the trio sampler that came with salmon, lamb chops, and chicken. It was wonderful. The second time we ordered the samplers again, and one person ordered a side of rice which was like a half of a tray of fried rice and wings. That justified the charge for the rice. The only issue is that the second time we ordered the takeout side of rice, we were given a tiny cup equal to the trio sample size, and it was like half the size of the previous side of fried rice. This is not cool especially considering the price. We had to send that back because it was not acceptable. However, they did take it back and filled the little bowl more, but it still was too small so we won't be ordering that again unless they change the price for the small portion of rice. Note, it is a bit pricey. However, I can tell they put alot of effort into building out their beautiful space, so I'm okay with the price. Yes, there is security at the door and they are checking for weapons. It's not ideal, but it is necessary, so I get it. I'm just glad that a beautiful quality restaurant is in that neighborhood as nice experiences can be had outside of the north side and downtown areas. Everyone I encountered was nice and welcoming. The food was very good from the French toast to the grits w scallion and the lamb chop and shrimp for the Sunday brunch special $30. That comes with mimosa. The menu is touch less and QR. cool to prevent germs from spreading. They also give you take out silverware that's wrapped so it further helps with germ prevention thank you. Pierre was the face of the place bc as soon as we walked in, he greeted us and he was so friendly and kind and open-minded. He made us feel like home. His job was to also make sure we didn't come in with weapons like knives or guns and had to pat us down. He also had to look at the bags. None of that bothered us because we understand it's for safety and he was very sweet about it and very respectful. Taneka is a top notch owner who really cares about her business and her employees doing a great job. I was very impressed with her managerial style. She is very welcoming and her mindset is that she wants everyone to feel like Home here. And I appreciate our waitress Kila for being nice to us and giving us a positive experience at the end. So the food... oh wow the GRITS ... the best ever!! The flavors with scallion on top and every bite was so good. Even someone who didn't like grits loved TNTs grits. The lamb chop was very flavorful and done just right. The shrimp was fresh and grilled just right too w some Cajun seasoning which went real well w the grits. BTW Taneka said they will be giving out free food to veterans Monday Memorial Day 5/26/2025 and the beautiful rooftop will be open! What an amazing thing for this beautiful owner to give to our veterans and to the Austin community. Love it. Live DJ today and he was very good to have some nice throw back music from the 80s to 90s also. Just know that all checks will include an 18% tip on the bill so don't pay extra unless you want to add extra. First time visitor to Chicago and to TNT. They check your person and bags for weapons and at 6pm security is at the door. Pasta was served very salty. It was no fault of my own and to return it I would have been charged 50%. That was crazy. Another new experience. The lamb was good though I asked for medium well and it was more of a medium. The fried rice was tastey, the chicken was a bit dry, the salmon and mash potatoes were pretty good. The funnel cake was not good. It was extremely oily and it barely had any caramel sauce on it. The Hawaiian roll didn't balance well with the oil they drizzled on it. It would probably go over better with a sweet icing for a better treat. The salad seemed like it was mixed in a batch. It was soggy and the ranch had no taste. The ranch dressing taste like they mix it themselves. The spinach balls had good flavor, would be better if served hot. Infact, none of the food came out hot. We stopped in before going to a Maze concert downtown. There were 8 of us dining in. They were very friendly and accommodating even tho our party was late and staggered in at different times. So I can definitely appreciate the hospitality, I know that can be frustrating on a Saturday. Thankfully, they gave us grace. Anywho, our server was a nice young lady who was dealing with 2 big parties, and she stayed pleasant with both parties. She was assisted by 1 of the owners, which was helpful too. The menu is short and to the point. We ordered alot of it. There were mixed opinions on the food. Seafood sampler was a hit, burgers were a hit, 1 person liked their seafood pasta, 1 didn't. My lamb chops were cooked the perfect temp, but needed a little charring. The mashed potatoes were a HARD NO!!!! I want the chef to go back to the drawing board with those. NO!!!!!!! The wings were good, I heard, salad was big and fresh. Drinks were ok, they could use a little more kick to them for the price. It was only one other customer eating his lunch. I got the lamb chops, which were thin, small and little on the tough side - especially since I asked them to be medium. I took my wife out on a date to TNT and to my surprise we were the only ones dining.... I know why now. I ordered the calamari which was really good, however my entrée was the ribeye. I ordered it medium. But it came back well done and TOUGH. The waitress noticed the problem even though I wouldn't complain. I also wouldn't allow them to take it back. I will just deal with it. This is not the place to go for date night or any other occasion. As you can see it says rooftop 5:30 slot is available that's why I booked the slot. We got there they said the rooftop doesn't open until 6. Then the manager is rude and the food wasn't even good. Don't let social media fool you, wanted to try this place after seeing it in IG, don't waste your time or money. Out waiter knew nothing about the menu every answer was let me ask. She forgot my husband drink he sat with nothing for 30 mins, the lobster fries were decent but the lamb chops were the worst I've had they were chewy and not seasoned well, the salmon was very fishy and salty and my daughter said her wings tasted like fake chicken. The manager knew we were displeased and offered to send over two drinks they never came my husband ordered a second drink it never came, not sure if what the deal was with our server they also added a tip and it was only 3 of us. This establishment is a vibe for maybe a couple date. I wouldn't recommend this place for a group setting. When me and friends arrived the security guard searched us like an TSA agent. The menu is short to none so don't worry about over choosing your choices. Our waiter came and introduced herself without silverware or a glass of water. Enjoyable ambiance and the food overall is very tasty. The price point for portions is exaggerated but money wasn't wasted on the flavor. We started with the calamari, which was flavorful and crunchy. The sauce it's served with was deliciously spicy, they offer cocktail sauce also. I created my own meal, the buffalo shrimp with a side of sauteed sweet corn and fried rice while my partner had the seafood pasta. Again the rice was very flavorful but a tad gummy for my taste but I did eat it all so that says a lot for its taste. The shrimp were large and the buffalo sauce was rich and spicy. Unfortunately I didn't care for the seafood pasta but he enjoyed it. I think the crab overwhelmed everything else but the lobster was delicious before he mixed it in with penne and sauce. Others in our party got the Black restaurant week special, wings (BBQ but they wished they'd asked for buffalo cause the sauce was that good, id mix them both next time I'm there). The garlic mash, definitely a hit! The cookie butter ice cream and fresh baked cookie was the best I'd ever had. Crunchy yet soft cookie with a small scoop of decadent homemade ice cream. TNT is definitely worth a try. I will be back during happy hour to try the $10 burger and wings (both sauces). Lastly the service was gracious and welcoming. You are first met by Shaun at the door and he kindly asks if you are conceal and carry (it's legal here so it should be asked). He politely escorts you to a sitting area to await being seated. Our server was accommodating since we did have two parties totaling 6 and she was able to sit us together. All the staff was pleasant and you could see the team work. I think the only dilemma was getting the food to the table all together. One person in our party waited but it was some confusion with the Black restaurant week items and the venue is still new and working out kinks, so patience is warranted. We went for the first time last week and had a combo platter dish. Chicken, shrimp, lamb chops, rice, and mashed potatoes. The flavor was outstanding and seasoned to perfection. Went here for a Galantine's Day evening with my girls. Beautiful inside. Food was okay. As long as we waited for it to come out it wasn't hot at all. We all had the skillet for dessert and usually a skillet is warm and the cookie should be hot . Not our cookies ours cookies were hard as a brick. Owner came over and asked us and we told her how the cookie was hard. She brought out a warm cookie and told us that this is how the cookie shoulda been. I ordered online and waited a 1hr and 30 mins for my food . The bacon was not on my burgers when I asked about it "we dnt have bacon" and walked away . I paid 4$ in total so it can be on my burgers. The service was so bad like no one knew what was going on and the owner like she had an attitude she told me "we have all these people in front of you " I thought the order online is different from sitting. I lived in the Austin community some years ago and was glad to see a new Black owned establishment open up there. I saw TNT on TT and decided to stop by for a quick dinner before heading to the Bulls game. I am so happy we choose TNT. The food was amazing, and the service was even better. We are truly foodies, so we know good food. We asked for house favorites and order them, and they didn't disappoint. I loved the sauces which were different. The spice level wasn't too much either. We traveled from Aurora with our fingers crossed that the food would be good. We had three appetizers and an entree dinner that was reasonably priced compared to other establishments that we have dined at. Yes, the security searched us and yes, the door is locked but it didn't overshadow the beautiful decor and vibe that TNT has created. I typically personally try new Restaurants often...My friends decided to try the new Black Owned spot TNT Rooftop. We arrived the doorman was super nice groomed well and professional. He then went over rules about weapons which is common but ok and of course confirmed our reservation for the day. We sat in the front so we had a good window view although the place is kind of dark inside. We started out with appetizers, sparkling water and drinks. We ordered Lemon Drops but substituted the vodka for Tequila. Drinks arrived nothing special about the presentation for $18. We weren't asked if we wanted anything around the rim sugar maybe salt idk. Drinks were basic as ever I could've made a much better drink for myself at home LBS. Martini glass with room temp liquor and ingredients no type of chill. I like cute drinks esp a lemon drop I can vouch for all the ladies especially if I'm dining out. I didn't seem to feel my drink so I requested another $18 lemon drop which was bought back the same way but what got me was the "Ununiformed" lady who served the drinks asked me if I wanted the lemon from my previous drink. "ARE YOU SERIOUS" too myself I said. For $18 you should've made sure I had a lemon peel or another slice. (The "NERVE") I said thank you to her several times bc that's just who I am she never acknowledge my nice gesture. She was not in a waiter uniform who served the drinks she wore a sheer white shirt jeans and bottega sneakers. I love supporting black businesses but I will not be back. I ordered a TNT Sampler which was good. I wont complain about the food at all. We spent about $200 and $3 additional charge for switching the liquor to the lemon drops but were never told that initially by the non uniformed waiter.
