Depending on the day, you could definitely run into different characters; myself/family have never had issues. Note: still cash only and a no ketchup zone. Service is fast and I've always had pleasant experiences with the staff. Basically an in and out the door type of place. Hot dogs are snappy and remind me of childhood at grandma's. I tend to just get mustard and onions. It's not just a taste, it's a feeling it gives me to have a Jimmy's dog. I will say that the fries this last time weren't as done as I like but still had the same flavor. Try it for yourself!

But that's just part of the adventure. Let's dig in. I've been to Chicago more times than my own grandmother's house (mostly because she's dead). Everytime I go, I look for new places to eat. This trip, I decided to bring my brother-in-law so he could experience Chicago the way I experience Chicago. Overstuffed and stumbling with a belly full of food. The first place we stopped was here. And honestly, the sole purpose of this stop was because I have never experienced a true Chicago style hotdog. I pulled up to this place with zero expectations. Luckily parking was a breeze as they're were plenty of open spots in the parking lot and in front of the building. We did get here about a half hour after it opened, so that might have had something to do with it. The inside was not what I expected. No seating, but a long standing counter against the windows. I could already tell I was getting ready to experience true Chicagoan cuisine. Ambiance 10/10 There's no menu to pick up and look at or scan. There were pictures and prices on the wall, but I'll be honest, I wasn't sure if that was pure decoration or the actual menu. Luckily, I just knew what I wanted and approached the counter with all of the confidence of someone from out of town ordering a hotdog. "I'd like a Chicago dog and a medium RC" were my exact words. "Everything on it?" Were his exact words. "Yep." Verbatim. From me. Now, disclaimer: At this moment I realized I had no idea what comes on a Chicago dog. And honestly, still now, three days later, I still don't. Couple minutes later, a paper bag and styrofoam cup were waiting for me on the counter. Service was quick and to the point. Utilizing the standing counter, I opened my bag like a kid at Christmas. They wrap their dogs in wax paper together with their fries and I'm here for it. The dog looked amazing. Squishy bun, mustard, onion, and sports peppers. This was going to be an experience. The dog was fantastic. Great flavor. Loved the crunch of the peppers as well as the heat they gave. The one thing, and I don't know if it's because of the style of dog they used, but it was not very girthy. However, the pure flavor of the whole thing was enough to overshadow the thickness of the tube meat. Tastiness of The Dog™ 10/10 The fries were just the icing on the cake. Nice and thick. They had that soggy fry flavor that when done right, makes the whole meal. I ate them without ketchup because they are HEAVILY against ketchup. And that was ok, they were still as delicious. Thicc Fries 11/10. It was a filling meal. About $15 and worth it. When I come back I'm going to be torn between eating here again and finding another Chicago dog place. Returnability 10/10. How was it? Fries- Delicious! Fresh cut fries, made right in front of you. They were great! Huge portion, too! Merkts Cheddar Sauce- Hell yeah! Give me a gallon of this, and I will chug it! Such a tasty cheese sauce. Loved dipping my fries in it. Great combo! Char Dog- This dog was delicious! Great char, great toppings. My only beef would be the bun. It definitely could have been more soft/steamed and fresh. It held up pretty well, but there were a couple bites where it broke and flaked apart. Hate when that happens. Still...didn't ruin the overall experience. Had a great last meal in Chicago before I headed to the airport.

The fries are so good that they're worth the trip on their own! It's a small place, so I'd recommend getting there early to beat the crowd. One word of caution: go easy on the hot sauce. It's seriously spicy!

I loved that the pickles and onions were diced so you could taste them in every bite. The cheese was *very* melted though, basically liquid, which was a little strange. I personally prefer when it's a bit thicker and there's a little more of it. My niece got the buffalo fried chicken sandwich and they did not skimp, it was basically a whole chicken thigh. She wasn't a big fan of the blue cheese, but otherwise liked it. For the sides, I'm from the South so the mac & cheese was a little underwhelming for me, but the fries were good and the strawberry shake was a solid dessert. We ordered delivery so I can't speak to the vibes, but I'd definitely try it in person sometime.
