Although I have not yet located him, the staff here is extremely helpful and nice. They agreed to let me put up a flyer with his picture and my contact info and one of the women working here even agreed to be on the "lookout" for him. I'm basically writing this review in order to remind people who are looking to adopt to check the shelters first. At this shelter they have a TON of animals, especially kittens. Some of them are so teeny tiny they look as if they could fit in a pocket. They even have a room where kittens are free to walk around and you can go in and mingle with them, if you are looking to adopt. It was SO HARD for me to not leave there with a kitten. They are sooo cute. They also have puppies. They had one that looked like maybe a beagle mix and he was so small and shaky, I just wanted to pick him up and take him home. I'll admit it, I'm not exactly a tough sell. Whether you are searching for a lost pet, or you are hoping to add to your family, the JPAS is a good place to start. There are always a lot of animals who are looking for a home and would love to be a companion for years to come.

I called about stray cats on my property that were clearly in need of help especially a younger one…read morethat appeared to be a younger cat, but not necessarily a kitten. It was explained that they were starving and that we cats die on our lawn from starvation before. I was told that there was nothing they could do because the cat wasn't injured. But is a starving animal not an animal in need? What kind of shelter refuses to help a vulnerable animal simply because it isn't visibly hurt? I don't know if this is how shelters operate everywhere, but it doesn't feel right. I was also given suggestions to remove them from my property that could put them in more danger, including mint oil, which is toxic to cats. It's extremely frustrating to receive this kind of response from a place meant to protect animals.

They also said Hobey had been to the vet and it was determined that she was 8 years old and that I wouldn't have to pay an adoption fee because Honey was an older dog and I was 65 years old. I told them I had already left and wouldn't return until July 10. She said they could board the dog for $10 per day but never said anything about paying in advance. I never heard anything else until July 4 when I was informed that in order to hold Honey I would need to pay for the boarding up front. Why wasn't I informed of this on July 1? Then they sent a link for fastpayments.com and not bluetails. I again informed them I would not be paying any money in advance. At that point I was told Honey would need to be relisted and they would continue processing applications. And then Courtney sent me this after I told her it all sounded like a scam since I had never met Hobey in person, This is Courtney the founder of Bluetails. We have a very high reputation in our community. We take payments up front because PEOPLE always try to get a dog for free, or watch it for free etc. Feel free to call the Jefferson Parish animal shelter or the LASPCA and ask about our credibility. But at this point I think we're past the point of no return. This is the kind of gratitude we get for having a program for seniors. Trying to place older dogs with older adopters for FREE, but we're the scam.... OK". Definitely not a happy camper about how unprofessional this whole process was. Late March I completed an app for a cat online. They replied quickly and rejected me. Because I…read morestated that I may take the cat outside with me, they said cats should never have access to outside or be free to roam around. I replied by stating that I did not indicate any such thing. The cat would live indoors, eat, sleep indoors, and otherwise be an indoor cat. If outside, it would be completely supervised by me. I never received another response to that. I also very much believe that the fact that I am a senior did not sit well with them. They do ask your age on the app (that should be illegal). Maybe that's the real reason and they are using outside as an excuse. In any event, the cat is still on the website living in a shelter when it could have had a very wonderful loving home., No wonder there are so many animals living in shelters.

if i could leave a -review i would. my wife and i have adopted all of our dogs with the exception…read moreof the few we've adopted thru the rescue we foster for over the last 6yrs and in that time i have also adopted at least one from the algeries spca and going back to japonica st prior to that. we have also fosterd quite a few dogs that were adopted out and this goes back to 1984. yesterday i went to see three supposed yorkies who were up for adoption. first went to the wrong building and my fault but two ppl working one on computer who was resolving a personal issue because the other girl asked if she could help and bimbo was dumb enough to say once i grt this resolved. i took a walk and yes where i shouldn't have gone though it was not posted to do not enter or have a n employee with you. a worker basically yelled at i was not supposed to be there my bad but didnt deserve to be yelled at. i het redirected and ask about the three two had already been adopted the third was in a room on the floor but then told to see her i have to basically suit up for surgery because she has a respiratory infection. it is known atm that distemper is rampant in the state atm. i did i saw her very standoffish wow i now wonder why. why with that infection is she pn the floor to be adopted? oh also told after seeing her i was not allowed to have contact with any other animal......why? perhaps a lawyer or those on the governing board would like to know. aside from you better hope i do not have a dog who starts showing symptoms.....i guarantee it will not be favorable. i also expect no to see this review....that seems sop i will never set foot in that building again and i will also let all of the rescues that i ha e contact with know. seems that pup could have distemper and you are letting it be privy to people and other animals. i thought you job was to prevent cruelty and btw i tried to contact the shelter in sorrento to possibly see a pup up there for adoption and they are closed until july 6th because of possible contamination of the distemper virus. a very small parish and community but more sense apparently than ppl in the bigggggg city t h i s i s p a t h e t i c. also pathetic that if there is a negative review it cant be posted on the website to me that is willful misinformation and this incident is not over by a long shot wish to call me dont bother but im sure you would be willing to listen to an attorney

Adopted my best friend there 1 1/2 years ago. She was a 10 1/2 y/o Yorkie mix missing left foot…read moreand left ear, which didn't keep her down at all. Being a senior dog, I only got to spend one year with her because she developed severe congestive heart failure. Looking for another one just like her. When she came to me, she had been spayed, house-trained, microchipped and was heartworm negative and had just received all vaccinations. Had never adopted a dog prior that had been so well-cared for! Very grateful!

Brought my my previous dog Romeo ( a special needs senior)…read morefrequently for about six years... and now my current dog Leo goes for boarding/daycare at least one week every month... they're just as wonderful with him. The staff is excellent, I love the webcams, suite options, and the staff is always attentive and focused.. I never see them on their phones or distracted, and it's obvious that they truly care about the dogs. Also appreciate that timely updates about anything unusual are thoughtfully communicated so I don't panic. Ive tried most of the boarding places in town- this one is the best. ( And I have English Bulldogs which are notoriously high maintenance)

Our dog Sydney was very happy here. She has spent two days there so far and didn't mind going back…read more She got a good report card and we were able to see her on the oh doggy cam. The only thing I wasn't crazy about is that she kind of smelled like a kennel but how could she not with all the dogs she was playing with. No big deal. We just gave her a bath.
