On the way home from another wonderful time in Drakesbad, the Family has stopped here for the soda fountain and the associated choice treats. Fun store to stop in and find that unusual item you did not know you needed until you saw it here. Bought my wife a duck shaped tea pot that sounds like a duck when the water boils. She uses it everyday and laughs when the tea is ready. We will be back for more goodies. read more

It's easy to skip this place on yelp because no where in the name of the store does it mention anything about their awesome old fashioned soda fountain. On a hot summer day, nothing beats their sundaes, milk shakes and ice creams! Service is spectacular. No matter how business this place gets (and they do get slammed in the summer), there is always a smile and friendly chatter from the hard working people here. A word of caution though; the milk shakes are really thick. Doesn't bother me, but to each their own so I thought it was worth mentioning. Aside from the soda fountain, they also carry a large selection of funny/cute knick-knacks, but most of it is pretty expensive. As an example an imitation/rubber bread loaf costs $30. Not sure why anyone would need that, but hey if you do then this place has it in stock! Store also carries some jewelry, touristy t-shirts, and summer dresses. Oh and the back of the store has a huge selection of Christmas ornaments all year round. For me, no visit to Lake Almanor is complete without a stop here along the way. read more

My husband has been raving about this gift shop and the fond memories he had as a child visiting it for a milkshake for five years. Finally, for our honeymoon we decided to visit Almanor this weekend and this was definitely a must stop. Needless to say all of the hype was completely true. The shop is full of unique trinkets and I especially adored the christmas section of the store. The milkshakes were just as delicious as he described and you can easily taste of quality ingredients used. Love this place! Very friendly environment and the employees are always there to help you out as much as possible. The owner herself approached us and talked more about the history of the store. We previously LOVED this place. Every year we would come here at least once and do some shopping, until we came on vacation this year. My wife went in to the store with our 2 year old Lexi, who was having a bit of a fit since Mom doesn't give in to her every demand. They were in the store for not more than 5 minutes before they were approached and told they had to leave because they were disrupting other customers. My wife had apologized to a few other customers, who sympathetically said things like," it's ok" and "we've all been there!" Given the inventory, I had thought his was a family friendly establishment. Apparently that is not accurate, even though when I questioned the employee who kicked my family out, she swore it was. I am deeply offended, and will no longer be doing business here. I would recommend saving your family outings for more family friendly establishments. read more

I love Lassen Gift! I have to stop by every time I am in Chester. The old school soda fountain is phenomenal and I crave the chocolate malts whenever I leave town. The store has some amazing novelties and decor for sale. I really wish I could buy it all. The employees have always been super friendly and fun to talk to. Went here one day with the ol lady and the new owners were talking about making a good first impression on their new customers. They have a nice coffee bar so I came back the next day with my sister and a few friends. We sat down to order and when the barista approached us he went directly to my sister and told her no dogs were allowed in the store and asked her to leave. I should have just left with her but instead wanted to give them a try since they are a new business they messed up our coffee order twice and only filled the cups like 3/4. Very disappointing experience. My very pregnant daughter and I as well as my grandson came in for banana splits. My daughter asked to use the restroom, which she was denied. She was sent down the street and around the corner to a public park restroom in a very unsavory area. When I asked why she couldn't use the restroom the manager stated " we don't have to." I've been vacationing in the Lake Almanor area for over 20 years. Each year I come into this place, I'm a little more disappointed. I realize it's Summer and the soda/ice cream counter can be a little crowded, but please teach the employees how to take orders (in order as to when the customer arrived). Also, my chocolate malt was 1/2 way mixed, some of it still in vanilla ice cream form, with globs of unmixed malt powder...not worth the $6.00 I paid for it. My husband's Mt. My husband just HAD to come to this place while we were vacationing in Lake Almanor, as he remembered it from his childhood. I have to say the soda fountain is pretty cool, something straight out of a movie. I was disappointed to find that the ice cream served was just Dryer's though. Maybe we came at a busy time (about 3:00), but it was packed! No place to sit, and the service was slow. Our milkshakes came out pretty tasty, but nothing super special. When my family and I came In to Lassen gift company, we were immediately welcomed in, and our kids went straight to the toys! but what we were really looking forward to, was the Soda Fountain! My family has been coming to this establishment for years, and the owner herself always makes sure everyone is doing okay, and will even play with our little baby's we bring along! The last of the real soda fountains. I had an orange float that was excellent. My daughter had the chocolate malt. Also excellent. Beware. The store can go from really quiet to really busy in a matter of minutes. And some of those tourists waiting in line get pretty agressive about getting a seat at the bar. Very nice little store on the main road. Easy to miss but hard to forget. Of course, as the other reviews say, they have a soda fountain and ice cream bar.
