Walking in, the place looks brand new, totally adorable & smelled so good we decided to hang around & stuff our faces while we were there with whatever they were cooking! Yeah! Lol We got their signature coconut cream seafood soup with the giant crab & the beef tacos, which are suppose to be their most popular dish. YUM! We have not stopped talking about this hidden jewel since we got back home! :)... The seafood soup was 2.die4! Hubby & I ate the whole thing. Then we fought over the tacos! Hand crafted tortillas from their own dough. Succulent tender quality beef seasoned to perfection then topped with super fresh cilantro & avocado. I never eat beef tacos but these? These have stolen my heart :).. They come with a red & green salsa. Warning: The red sauce is very very very HOT. I mean it's VERY SPICY. Waitress wasn't able to answer any questions about the food. It was very basic interior but clean. The portions were large but nothing to write home about. Very similar to Mexican food in Texas. Small, clean restaurant in West Monroe serving "latin" food Honduras style. Ordered a house made tamarindo fruit drink which was tart and sweet and delicious. The prices are a little higher than what I am used to coming from a big city. However, the food was served fresh and delicious. My breaded fish filet was huge and fried so well that it was not greasy at all. The beans were fluffy and tasted good like the rice. I really liked the fried tostones (green plantain). They also have a habanero salsa and a green one if you like some spice. The only thing is that crema automatically should be served with a sweet plantain order and is separate. The last time I ate here the food was absolutely delicious. The same unfortunately cannot be said about this particular occasion. I called in an order from their website for the chicken and shrimp dinner which also came with rice and plantains. The lady on the phone said 15 to 20 minutes I told her that would be perfect. Especially since my hotel was only 5 minutes from the restaurant. I arrived at the restaurant about 12 minutes later. Figuring I would just wait until my order was ready. I walked into the restaurant and to my surprise my order was ready. So I paid for it including the credit card fee which I've never encountered at a restaurant in my entire life. I get back to my room Now keep in mind it's only 5 minutes away from the restaurant. Settle in and decide to dig in. Well the food was cold plain and simple. Let me change that the chicken and the shrimp were cold. While the rice and the plantains were warm. I was able to warm the chicken up in the microwave. I did not do the same for the shrimp because I did try one of the cold shrimp and it was already tough so putting it in the microwave would have just made them rubbery. Definitely not worth the $18 plus dollars ( which wasn't even close to the price on their website which is $11.99) which included the credit card fee.I honestly believe that restaurants not all but many are doing their very best to take advantage of their customers. Ready, set, BRUNCH!!! This hidden gem is tucked away down Thomas Road, just past the infamous Duck Commander warehouse. Who knew such a cute diner existed in the West Monroe area?! It was my first visit here and based on reading previous reviews, I settled on the Honduran platter. That was the best decision ever!!! It's a skirt steak, migas (eggs cooked to your liking- I got scrambled eggs), black beans & rice, avocado slice, Honduran cheese, fried plantains & crème fraîche, served alongside 2 homemade corn tortillas. Service was quick and friendly, despite the lunch rush hour. Latin Foods certainly deserves many more visits in the near future. Almost missed this place.... super small exterior on a busy industrial street. Inside is roomy, clean and very bright! We were greeted by a friendly voice and big smile. I ordered Papusa and my wife got the Pork Chop Ceibeno. We also ordered a side of sweet plantains and fried yuca as well. Everything was amazing!!!! Fresh tasting and done to perfection! After our main meal my wife ordered a Latte and I had a small coffee. Both were exquisite. Wish I had ordered a large now. There is no doubt we will be back, even though it's a two hour drive! PS: You should def give this place a try! UPDATE: Went back and tried the Baleadas..... oh my..... also finished our meal with Tres Leches. I didn't know what to expect from this place. I heard of it from friends and decided to give it a shot. I came in before the lunch rush and the do-it-all server/casher/waiter/busboy greeted me quickly. I ordered the tacos and a coffee and was absolutely blown away. An order of tacos has two, but they are massive and filled with meat and avocado with some amazing sauces to go with. Including the coffee my meal was $12. I woke up hungry Saturday morning, unsure of where to go for breakfast. Then the clouds parted and brought me breakfast at Latin Food. This small unassuming building would not be my first choice if I were just passing by but I've been reading the reviews for a few weeks now and dying to try it. The feel inside is very authentic, the waitstaff was helpful and friendly. it's not a very large place, but they were able to stuff quite a few tables and booths in there without issue. Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. I opted for the Honduran breakfast with a pork chop and my eggs done with the tomato sauce. Firstly, this giant plate only cost about $8. It came with 2 eggs, a pork chop topped with a pico de gayo type of sauce, black beans, sour cream, cheese, plantains and fresh thick homemade tortillas. Secondly, the coffee is the best I have had in a very very very long time. I could possibly eat this several times a week and not feel bad about it at all. read more

The coffee was good. The pancakes were also pretty decent. The issue I had with Latin foods was the disconnect in our communication. I called ahead and ordered to go. When I arrived i promptly paid and was handed one bag of food and the coffee to go. I drove back to Monroe and realized I was missing a bag of food. My girl friend went back and picked it up. By the time the food got to our house the eggs were cold and my quesadilla looked a lot like a burrito. Just do it! Get off of I20 while you're on your way to where ever you're going and drive the 2 miles to this little gem. Don't worry as you pass the industrial buildings and railroad tracks--you're going the right way. When you pull up and you see this little restaurant sitting between a gas station and a restaurant supply company and the sign says "Latin Food" -- park and go in. Be prepared for your taste buds' happiness to exceed all expectations. I'll admit it. We saw some reviews and they looked really good but as you drive to the restaurant and up to the restaurant I started wondering...hmmmm...do I want to go in? The answer is YES! We got there 5 minutes before it opened. There were already 3 cars waiting for the restaurant to open. They had to know something. We started talking with others as we waited. The woman in her BMW SUV had been there yesterday and drove from the other side of Monroe today just for the coffee. She's a regular. Another guy in his truck goes here every few days for breakfast. He drives 20 minutes each time. Yep. It's that good. When it opened on time we flooded into the modest restaurant and took our seats. This restaurant is like the smart and pretty girl who has no clue what a catch she is. This restaurant is so modest they have no idea how much people would pay in another town for such good food. My daughter ordered the Fredes Omlette and the Tropical Splash. Boom. Fresh tomatoes, bacon and fresh cheese served with homemade tortillas. Seriously--it's hard to rave about tortillas but really...these were dang good. Thick and fully cooked with a light toasting with great substance and nice light flavor that doesn't steal the show but adds to the meal. The Omlette was super tasty with the right amount of bacon, cheese and tomato. The Tropical Splash was very refreshing and flavorful. The fried plantains were cooked perfectly. They were tender inside, sautéed and carmalized on the outside. They take plantains seriously. Finally a place that makes them perfectly! My husband and I ordered the Honduras Tropical. The eggs were scrambled nicely and cooked properly, the cheese was fresh with a nice crumble, slice of avocado was fresh and all accompaniments were delicious. The coffee is FABULOUS! It's excellent Colombian coffee -- I don't know what in the world they do to it but I'm in. It's a must. All this for about $6-7 per breakfast. And great service. Yep.
