Two vogue classes I've taken here were low-key kind of traumatizing for me. I've been dancing for a while and I normally enjoy my dance classes, but I hate the way that Damon often attacks the idea of masculinity in this class and it left me feeling deeply disrespected as an enby person. I hadn't felt that energetically misaligned and uncomfortable in a space in 10 years. I felt pressured to mask autistic traits because I was singled out for not masking those traits, making the environment very ableist. That day, I felt on the non-speaking spectrum and it was like he was trying to explain to me what was happening in the room socially, as if I didn't know. I *did* know, I just did not want to engage in the social dynamics as an autistic person who came to dance, not to socialize verbally that night. I feel perfectly fine not "fitting in" in a space, just let me not fit in! Just let me exist! I felt consistently projected upon instead of *seen*. I came in, confident and empowered as usual, and left feeling worse. My favorite vogue teacher here only teaches advanced classes now and I'm looking to figure out how I can test into her class so I can continue having an autistic-friendly, enby-friendly voguing space again.

I will admit I was a little nervous the first couple of classes, simply because I didn't know what to expect and I am by no means a "good" dancer. By that I mean I haven't taken any professional dance courses or training, I came here just as an alternative to gym workouts. I quickly realized I had nothing to be nervous about. The studio's owner and main instructor, Damon, promotes a judgment free environment where all experience levels are welcome! His joy, and positive, goofy energy is so infectious I found myself with a huge smile on my face, and a full heart. Afterwards I decided to keep coming back and bought a full monthly membership to the studio after my groupon expired. Over the past year I've taken bodyburn, restorative mobility, yoga and even tried out a contemporary class! I love all the different types of dance classes available here and the warm and welcoming community that never fails to brighten my day. I'm now a regular member and try to come to classes here 3 times a week as my regular fitness routine. I cannot recommend this studio enough, if you enjoy dancing and want to change up your fitness routine this is the perfect place to go! I also really like that for bodyburn we get a new dance routine every couple weeks I like to show off what new moves I learn to my friends and family!

Our class was in studio #5. The sound system was good. Unsure if I loved the floors, but they worked good for this class. Ample spacing for our class which had nearly 2 dozen participants. The space it self is really comprehensive. I saw multiple bathrooms and a gender-neutral bathroom. There is at least 5 separate dance spaces. Each space was arranged depending on dance style. I saw a room with several barre. The general area also boosted several areas to just chill while waiting on a loved to finish a class. On this day...all the kiddos were taking classes. So many little one excited to take their dance classes. It was cute because this little girl kep staring at our class through the window. Highly recommend seeing all the offerings at this dance center. I was surprised by the many offerings they have. I want to try a beginner hip-hop but we will see. Tip: Parking is located around the building on street. Mostly free but get there with time to look. I found it easier to just park off Belmont and walk.

In July, the class that was offered was capoeira. The instructors were efficient, friendly, and got the crowd going. This is not an easy workout by any means, especially for those of us who haven't done a cartwheel since the early 90's, but it's definitely effective and gets you moving! Towards the end, they engaged us in a bit of Brazilian culture - singing a song and doing a handshake that ensures that everyone in the class has acknowledged one another on a good work out. They even have a stage demo / performance by the instructors as well, always fun. I'm sorry to be missing their show next Friday as I'm not from the immediate area, but this was definitely worth partaking in!

The brand new studio space is peaceful and spacious. Yes, it's also very hot. That is part of the experience. The teachers are the best. Welcoming of all abilities, friendly, and supportive. If you let them know about a specific body issue you have such as a painful lower back, they will help you make accommodations during the poses. The poses: a series of 26 poses with two breathing exercises. Doing the same set of poses during a 90 minute class over and over sounds like it may be boring, but it is anything but boring! Each class is different, how your body feels, how your mind feels. I feel calmer and less anxious, and my body feels stronger and more capable due to my yoga practice at this studio.
