This place is awful. Let me list the ways…read more.. First of all, after our dog stayed at this facility, she came home with kennel cough. That led to the extra expense of a vet visit. And if you want your dog to have any attention, you have to pay $5 for 15 minutes out in the yard. The owner has a fenced area where dogs can run and play with one another during the day, so there is no reason to keep them cooped up like that. Plus, she did not want to release my dog to me 30 minutes after her "closing time". I had just come from a funeral, flew for 5 hours, and then drove for an hour and a half. SHE LIVES RIGHT THERE... on site... and she wasn't going to give me my dog. Needless to say, that didn't go over well with me. All this, and come to find out, she took the blankets away from our dog. We had sent her with old blankets, because she can get bored and will chew. So she did and the lady took them away! Our dog spent several days sleeping on the cement floor! My husband had already experienced problems with her obedience classes, so we should have known. She apparently talks about 50% of the time about topics unrelated to the training. He said it was mostly a social gathering with a few moments sprinkled in where the dogs learned commands. Services of this kind are limited in this area, but it is worth the drive to Las Cruces in order to avoid training or kenneling your dogs here.

I love this place. They have the best tasting pupusas in the area. I highly recommend this place.read more

My concern is with the communication and clinical decision-making process. As a healthcare professional myself, I value understanding the assessment, differential diagnosis, and the reasoning behind recommendations. I repeatedly felt that recommendations were presented without sufficient explanation of why a particular test or treatment was the best next step or how the results would change management. Veterinary medicine has become very expensive, and I understand that diagnostics are important. However, clients also deserve a discussion about priorities, expected benefit, and reasonable alternatives based on both the clinical picture and their budget. That conversation was largely missing for us. For example, after my dog's initial workup, I would have appreciated a discussion of why the next recommended step was abdominal imaging versus endocrine testing, and how each option would affect treatment decisions. Instead, I often felt I was trying to piece together the clinical reasoning myself. I don't expect inexpensive veterinary care, and I'm willing to invest in appropriate diagnostics. What I hope for is a collaborative approach where the veterinarian explains the assessment, discusses options, and helps owners make informed decisions rather than simply presenting expensive recommendations. I think this is a capable practice, but communication and shared decision-making are areas where the client experience could be significantly improved.

Dr. Leslie and Dr. Turner are both eloquent, lovely and helpful when discussing our pups. I would give them 5 stars, but WOW is it expensive to see them. We spent almost $400 at our last visit for two exams, two shots and some ear meds for our one pup. I do appreciate them talking about costs with me as we go, but I'm always leaving there having spent more money than expected. That said, you get what you pay for. Overall, so happy with this team and always feel like my dogs are taken care of.

Irene genuinely cares about where her dogs end up and takes the time to understand both the dogs and the people adopting them. She has an incredible instinct for matching the right dog with the right home, which makes all the difference with a breed like the Malinois. Owning a Malinois is not a decision that should be taken lightly!!! They are incredibly intelligent, high energy dogs that require patience, structure, training, and a lot of love. What impressed me most about Ruidoso Malinois was not only how well cared for the dogs are, but how much emphasis is placed on preparing the owners as well. Irene and her staff make sure you have the tools, knowledge, and confidence needed to handle and understand these amazing dogs. The trainers and staff are excellent, and it is obvious the caretakers form real personal bonds with the dogs. When I brought mine home, they even rushed out to say goodbye, which really showed how much they truly care. I loved my first dog from Ruidoso Malinois so much that I ended up getting a second. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

After hearing about Hank's training and temperament we immediately agreed he was the one for us and headed down to NM. We loved our stay in the Ruidoso area and meeting our new dog. The training they offered was rewarding and informative. They worked with us individually to ensure we were both comfortable handling such a powerful and intelligent boy. Knowing we had another Malinois waiting for us at home, both Irene and our trainer worked with us on how to slowly introduce them to each other in the home to ensure they respected each other. We followed their suggested slow pace and specific instructions to a tee and they are the very best of friends now! Hank is an absolutely wonderful dog and We adore him. People stop us almost daily to ask about him. ( Did I mention how gorgeous he is?) We also do dog sports with him. He is highly ranked both state and nation wide in barn hunt. As well as being a highly competitive and driven dog, he is a well-mannered and loyal family pet. He is very civilized and even tempered in public, but is also a very serious and formidable looking dog. We want to thank Irene for matching us up with this wonderful boy. He is arguably the best dog we've ever had. While we don't even want to think about this, when the time comes that we are looking for another dog, Irene will be our first call.
