My sister and I were visiting Corvallis for thanksgiving weekend and I being both gluten free and vegan, stumbled upon this place. Instantly our favorite spot! My sister does eat meat and gluten so there is a great balance between dietary restrictions and no restrictions. Staff was absolutely incredible. I've been to Laughing Planet in Portland, OR, many times so when a friend suggested the LP in Corvallis as a meet-up-for-lunch location, I immediately agreed. Laughing Planet serves up delicious healthy flavorful food and my bowl of chili was no exception. And now they're serving kombucha, too! Win/win! I love that they have food for everybody - I can order vegan/plant-based and my friends can order something meat-based and it's all good food, fresh and tasty, too. Not TOO cool with rustic hard edged wood and without those cheap metal seats that look like they escaped from your college science lab. This place has a nice feel AND function. I had the BOLLYWOOD BOWL. It was cold when it arrived. I needed something hot on a cold day, so this was really a let down. There wasn't much chicken, which I was imagining would be roasted hot, but not. I could barely taste any sense of the coconut sauce, nor feel the creaminess of coconut milk in my mouth, which was a large part of the draw for me for this dish!! The chick-peas were dried and HARD, which was not pleasant on my teeth or jaw. Maybe they meant dried chick-peas, but that was not indicated on the menu. It says they are "Roasted" which means to me that they're cooked well in an oven, and soft like roasted veggies. Nothing tasted fresh, and the green beans were kind of shriveled. There was barely any flavor. Bleh! I also had bought a chocolate mint cookie to eat later. It was terribly dry and crumbly, and also barely had any flavor...tasted dry and grainy. I had been on a long road trip to deal with my father's death, felt depleted, and really needed some hot comfort food. This food was practically an insult to my sense of being a human. :( read more

This dish usually comes with beef or tofu, but I'm not a big fan of beef and I wanted some meat so I asked for chicken instead and they were super accommodating. I thought the bowl was really tasty but still healthy and I would totally get it again. I also got the Peach Berry Chia Smoothie (4.75), it was pretty tasty but kinda spendy so I don't know if I'd get it again. My friend got the Southwestern Green Chile burrito and thought it was good but not amazing. She also got the oatmeal cookie and I tried some. I thought the cookie was DELICIOUS. Actually forgot that I'd previously done a review back in 2011. Even harder to believe LP has been open that long! Since LP has opened, I've probably dined there at least 50 times, and gotten take out another dozen times or more. I could be way low on both of those estimates too. Here's why Laughing Planet has literally become my default go-to restaurant for dates with my wife, take-out, quick solo meals, and business lunches: 1) Consistently friendly service over a period of years. "Friendly" means a couple primary things for me- smiles and eye contact and flexibility with my weird orders. It's not uncommon for me to swing in and order 3 side orders of guacamole combined into a single dish along with a small portion of grass-fed beef in another small bowl :) I have never, ever gotten a whiff of impatience or an eye roll when customizing an order at Laughing Planet. On top of that, they've always found a reasonable way to price these "off-menu" requests. Contrast that with many experiences where I paid for a full order of "this or that", just to get the one a la carte item I was interested in. 2) Consistent food. My favorite jam for a typical meal at LP is their Paleo Bowl with Grass-fed Beef and double sauce. They've changed the style of sauce a couple times and all types have been fantastic. The beef is always juicy and tender and the vegetables perfectly cooked. Every time. I appreciate consistency, especially when I'm considering taking a client or future client to lunch. I rave about LP to my guests, and LP always delivers. Side note- The variety of the menu makes it a great default spot for business meetings- my guests never have a problem finding something that looks great to them. 3) High quality food for the price. For roughly $10 I'm getting a large serving of Oregon-grown (often Willamette Valley) vegetables and a filling portion of fall-apart, Oregon-raised grass-fed beef, along with a freshly made sauce. Some may not care about organic or grass-fed, but for those that do, Laughing Planet is a fantastic food value. 4) Mobile ordering!! (This is the newest rad thing about LP)- Some time in the last year, they partnered with ChowNow. You can download the Laughing Planet app for android or iOS and very easily order your food ahead of time AND pay for it through the app using Apple Pay (my favorite) or store your credit card in it. Then when you arrive at the restaurant, you simply walk over to the side counter and they have your whole meal waiting for you- either in a bag to go, or on a tray for your table. Super easy to use and I've never had a mishap. Great app design. It would seem that culture drives a lot of this experience- Recently my wife and I were grabbing dinner and the new GM came and introduced herself and we sat and chat with her about her background and what she likes about Laughing Planet. It was clear to us that she was not only proud of the menu and experience they have in this regional restaurant chain, but was very enthusiastic about the company culture, and the local owner of the Corvallis shop. When a businesses' people enjoy what the do, it always spills over onto guests IMO. (And vice versa of course) There are several great food venues in town, but if you're in to clean food (ie. paleo, vegan, veg, Whole 30, etc) and you're looking for a new jam that's affordable, very tasty, and easily fits your food ideals, give LP a try. read more

A really great change from all the deep fried pub and bar food that seems to dominate the scene here. Freshly prepared dishes and original ideas for seasonal specials were all great. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff were a big plus here. The Chipotle Corn soup was served hot, very flavorful, thick and seasoned just right and served with crisp and fresh corn tortilla chips. For the Seasonal Bowl the theme was Korean and came with scallion pancakes and roasted pulled pork that was tender and complimented that mélange of vegetables that were seasoned with gochujang sauce and other spices. I've been going to this location since it opened in Corvallis and always loved the food. It had been a couple years since I've been in and today I was appalled. We ordered for 2 adults and 2 children. The food took a long time, even though there was only one order ahead of us that got their food promptly. We got there right when they opened so they were not busy. When our food did come it was all COLD. Cold tacos and burrito bowl. Nothing was even remotely warm. The flavor was not fresh. In fact part of my meal tasted very off like dirty dish water and way over salted. The portions were also not as they normally have been. Food was great, and the servers were extremely kind. I ordered the vegetable bowl and my mom ordered the bollywood bowl and both were delicious. My mom substituted sautéed kale instead the rice it came with and the flavor was great. Our only complaint would be the upstairs seating near the railing was strange as over the railing was the top of some kind of cooling system that was dusty and held cleaning supplies that could be seen if you just look to your right so we moved seats. Throughout all my dietary iterations Laughing Planet has always been a restaurant we could go to. There are many options and the employees have always been kind when I need to ask about specific ingredients and they can look at all the recipes easily. The Paleo bowl is a little heavy on kale for my taste but I love the Santa Fe bowl (a special), Zapatista salad, chili and the other things I've tried. Mostly I love that we can find food made with wholesome ingredients and friendly service. We've liked the baked goods as well. read more
