Others commented here, saying that she failed to diagnose a rare medical condition. I don't find that to be disqualifying because, by definition, a rare medical condition is hard to discover. Dr. Khoo was cheerful, sensible and straightforward. Exactly what I wanted in a doctor. Would recommend her highly.

The doctor is truly a specialist in her field of endocrinology. She has years of experience and knows her field well. She has worked so closely with my sister-in-law to monitor and track her diabetic condition, made recommendations, modified prescriptions and adjusted amounts; really tailored the specific needs of my sister-in-law. Dr. Smilo knows how to work with patients one-on-one with their specific diabetic condition. Folks with diabetes are at different stages. And even different needs at the same stages. The bottom line, my sister-in-law first went to Dr. Smilo last year, very concerned and stressed with her health. All her related levels were high and she was at Type II diabetes. Dr. Smilo has worked so closely with her, recently brought down my sister-in-law to PRE-DIABETIC condition. Dr. Smilo is a miracle worker. She's patient, understanding, listens well, but drills you to follow her guidelines to accomplish the goals; the end results to achieve a healthy patient to better deal with or eliminate the critical stages of diabetes. She might be old-school in some ways. I would like to see some methods and patient tasks more automated like patient/doctor tracking of readings/recordings to a spreadsheet, visually graph data/results, more allowance for comments, with options to print. Same with medications to track; old, new, changes in amounts or types, reasons, dates. Spreadsheet graphs would visually track the progress and any noticeable changes, also reflecting modifications in meds. Can result in less hard copy paperwork/paper files and faxing. And can be emailed and saved to personal e-files. Including references and handouts. But still have the hard copy option for those without or not familiar with automated tools. Dr. Smilo has quite an extensive background and years of practice. Her professional accomplishments, evident, on the wall in her office. She is a specialist in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetes and metaboism. Her office summary of services mentioned includes diabetes management, abnormal lipids, high blood pressure and heart disease, treatment of acute illness for adults, weight management, and preventive medicine. Dr. Smilo was an associate Clinical Director at UCSF. And she was honored in 2011, being awarded TopDoc in San Francisco. If you want a thorough doctor who will achieve the results you want, Dr. Smilo is your endocrinologist or specialist, as mentioned, in other areas. My sister-in-law is happy with her first-hand experience and results. I can tell and am happy for her and my brother.

On every occasion they have engaged in behavior that was either rude or unprofessional. They berate each other in front of patients. They also berate patients. The woman at the office was quite rude because I called with a question at 4:50 and she made sure to let me know that she felt that was too late and that she didn't know if anyone could help me calling so late. I asked if she could take a message, and although it seemed to be quite a chore for her, she did take a message. The next day when I called back to check on whether it would be possible to get the referral I needed, she reminded me several times that since I'd called at almost 5pm, I couldn't really expect much. And, that I should be aware that the Dr. only works Tues and Wed so well... I'd just have to wait. This attitude continued on like that for the entire conversation. Dr. - fire your staff who have attitudes like this. I have no patience for being treated this way by someone I don't even know. By the way - the patient is the customer, and they are allowed to call whenever they can fit it into their day without being reprimanded rudely. And, if care is not going to be accessible from Thurs through Tues, than that's not going to work out well either. It isn't that hard to be civil on the phone. Not sure what this woman's problem is, but she really needs an attitude fix - this is the third time and it's 3 strikes you're out - I'll be looking to change to a new provider this time.

Needless to say, I went to see another doctor who tested me without any difficulty, and yes, I have Hashimotos, and I now am on the medication I need. I wrote Dr. Butterfield a polite letter about how my treatment could have been better and she responded with "I'm sorry if you feel your care was inadequate". You know, an apology that isn't. It's disappointing that Dr. Butterfield was both unwilling to offer me proper care and unwilling to even pretend to take feedback about it.

I like her as a physician because she is pretty warm, honest (but not shaming) and will be frank about your lifestyle choices. She is adept at handling endocrine issues, but knows when to refer you to an outside endocrinologist when you need one. As someone with chronic health issues, I'm glad that she's an internist who is relatively conservative in her choices, but still does enough that its effective. I realy like Dr. Butterfield and can't wait for her to come back to help me with my care. 5 stars for her, but I'll have to review One Medical separately because I have issues with them... I very rarely leave reviews but I feel compelled to write one for Dr.Greider…read more I became very sick in October 2018 and was seeing doctor after doctor including doctors at Stanford, the Mayo Clinic, UCSF and naturopaths and none of them were able to find anything wrong with me or were able to help me. I was finally referred to Dr.Greider by an acupuncturist who thought I might have Lyme disease. Dr. Greider very patiently and thoroughly listened to my entire medical history, did a series of tests and determined that I had babesia and possibly had Lyme and/or bartonella. While under treatment for the babesia, the antibiotics made me feel initially worse and I proceeded to go to the appointment I had already had scheduled through UCSF before I saw Dr.Greider. They confidently told me I don't have any tickborne illnesses and that I should stop taking the antibiotics. Fortunately, I trusted my gut in thinking that Dr.Greider was right and continued with his treatment - and he was right. I'm finally cured and I feel better than I've ever felt, including pre-Lyme (Dr.Greider hypothesized that I possibly had a tickborne illness from my childhood days which were zapping my energy levels even though they hadn't caused significant problems until I got older) and I think he's correct about this as well. Dr.Greider is clearly passionate about helping patients and extremely knowledgeable. I highly recommend him and his practice.
