Lol, wtf, I don't even know how this place is still open. By far one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in my life. If I could give this place 0 stars for customer service, I would. I should have listened to the reviews here because after writing this up I think it will reinforce the woman's rudeness. This is located on the northeast side of the Northgate Mall. I was running errands in the area, so I figured to go here to get ~5 pairs of jeans hemmed and tapered while out and about maybe about a month ago. The woman there points at the dressing room and tells me to go change. No greeting, no hello, just asks me what I want and points to the dressing room. I put on the first pair and come out for her to put the pins in, mark, whatever she needs to do. At this point, this is where it all went downhill from here. She used push pins (not safety pins) to take the pants in and shorten the pants. She mutters under her breath, I have no idea wtf is going on, or whether I upset her. I go back into the dressing room, and I'm wondering how the fk to take off these pants off safely without stabbing myself with these pins and ruining her pinning. Unfortunately, I stabbed myself a couple times in the foot trying to take off the pants and try on another pair. I might also add, I am a petite person, but these dressing rooms are pretty uncomfortably tight. I come out and let her know that the push pins have been plucking me in the foot from the other pair and ask if there is a different way to pin up the pants. Well, she doesn't see to give a flying fk, and proceeds to do the same thing to these pants. I fear taking the pants off again. So after 5+ minutes of attempting to take off the pants, I come out and ask her if it's ok to just hem these 2 pants (because I don't want to go through needle hell again). Apparently this made her really angry. She raises her voice and tells me that I'm wasting her time, and why can't I try on the other jeans. My partner who was with me at the time, was waiting in the seating area and looked up at the commotion. At this point I was sick of her rude sh*t and told her "I think I'll go somewhere else." Then she again tells me I am wasting her time and tells me to take out the pins myself and put it in her push pin holder. I really wanted to give her a chance and take the past reviews with a grain of salt, but it really is not worth it to come by here. I don't know if she is going through some hard times and wants to project her poor attitude on her customers or what. Whatever it is, I hope she gets the help she needs. read more

Generally a rude human being. I gave her the benefit of the doubt even after reading all the bad reviews. And the fact that shes a non English speaker as I am too and I know its just the structure of speaking a different language some times. I even forgave her for not even looking at me or saying hello after i said Hi. She just grunted. I brought out my sportscoats from my bag and she grew impatient going "hurry up! I'm busy!" "You see I'm busy?" "What do you want?" I just needed my sleeves shortened and that was $45 for one coat. She just walked away after stating her price and didnt even inquire as to if I'd like to put down a work order. I gave my business to Nordstroms because it was the same price with a smile and treated me like a human being. She doesnt deserve my money nor yours. I wouldnt even stop by this place again to watch it burn down. read more

I came in with a load of items to alter and the woman I spoke to was knowledgeable, quick, and friendly. Was hesitant to have anything done here but decided she should at least be able to take my measurements for my dress I am ordering on Etsy from the Ukraine. Obviously the US is the only place that uses inches, the rest of the world uses centimeters so the dress maker asked for cm. Laura's alterations told me she couldn't measure me in cm. Why? Her answer was just no. For someone with a heavy accent and limited English she is obviously foreign and should know how to use cm. And what tape measure doesn't have inches and cm on it? Would not trust them to do ANYTHING! If they can't even take proper measurements. Wasted my time walking here. Oh and I had to walk here because they wouldn't answer their phone!! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I would not recommend going here at all. I called over the phone to make an appointment, once I went in there she didn't say much and just to put my dress on. Once I got out she pinned everything then asked me to take it off. Once it came to the actual quote she quoted me so much! $160 for an alteration! So then I stepped out side to make a phone call to my mom who was paying for it. It was just way to much. I got off the phone with my mom and I came back in and I said I'm sorry it's not going to work out. And she went off the wall! She was saying "you wasted my time, I'm very busy. Why did you even come in here! You have no money don't come in next time" She was just so rude! I told her I won't be back. read more

Wow just need to echo the other reviewers who commented on the bad attitude! I went in with a few pieces but her rude and generally angry demeanor immediately turned me off. After showing what I'd like done, simply bringing in a dress and slacks, she gave me erratic and expensive pricing. I decided not to buy and she asked if I thought it was too expensive and I honestly said yes. She replied that its a lot of work..haha what?? Bringing in a pair of slacks and a dress, seriously, those are the most popular and straightforward alterations to be done. Guess she just didn't want a customer, which is fine by me, I'll take my dollars somewhere else. Have definitely had many items tailored by other people in the past and I've never been quoted the difficulty of bringing in a pair of slacks and a cotton dress. read more

Very quick turn-around on repairs to my slacks and work looked quality. Done in a few hours and convenient location. Seemed to be a bit of a language barrier, but everything turned out just like I asked. Prices seemed reasonable. read more

One pant leg hem from them came undone after a few washes. I brought it back to them and they basically claimed that I undid the stitching myself and wanted a new hem... what? The woman who was "helping me" had very poor customer service and was rude. Why would I un-hem one pant leg just to come in and waste both of our time? Makes no sense. No no no! Just don't go! At Northgate mall, the woman behind the counter was very rude! I asked for a price list and she doesn't have one. She makes up prices as she sees fit, and after I informed her that I had been to their other locations over the years and have been charged $10 and $12 for pants to be hemmed, (she told me $17) she challenged me asking me if I knew so and so... her tone was very rude as if she was accusing me of lying. So, fine, I will pay $17. But then, she tells me their cc machine is broken and they are cash only. Sounds like tax evasion to me. So no, I would not recommend this place at all. And I will be filing a complaint with mall management and report her to BBB. I respect small business, but show some respect to your consumer!!! read more

Convenient, reasonable and quick alterations! It's located next to the food court at the Northgate Mall. I have had jeans and shirts done here..cheaper than Nordstrom or Men's Wearhouse. Not fancy, but appreciate the value of my time and convenience. .they also have a shop in the Everett Mall just outside of Macys. Laura is the owner and she staffs the stores with local tailors. If you need personal expert tailoring, I have made appointment with her to do extensive mens tailoring on a sportcoat..well worth doing! read more

I had to redo this because my bf thought the first one was too "bitchy". Here's a simplified version: 1) Figure out what you need done beforehand, only then can you get a cost estimate when she has the item in front of her. She needs to see the material and how workable it is. 2) A little pricey. $22 to shorten hem on a dress, $15 for adding slits; $45 for adjusting shoulders and sides. Ended up costing more than what I paid for both dresses combined. 3) Be as specific as you can in terms of measurements. If you know you want an inch off the bottom, say it so. She only uses safety pins for markings, and I believe this is why the hemline on the dress ended up lopsided and a lot shorter than I wanted. See video. 4) She wants payment upfront, which was against my gut, but okay. 5) Wait about a week later. 6) Try it on before you leave and check the places she altered. I forgot to look down at the hemline when I tried on the dress, only to find out when I got home that it was uneven. read more

I had a terrible experience with Laura's Alterations. I asked to get a button up shirt tailored to fit me properly. The sleeves needed a hem and to be made more slender and the body of the shirt made a few inches smaller. While the owner pinned the shirt on me she seemed angry and muttered to herself. When I went to pick up the shirt and try it on today, it was clear she had fixed the body of the shirt, but the sleeves remained unchanged. I pointed this out and she asked for more money to do the sleeves. I told her I had a already paid for this service and she said "not enough". I have a receipt stating the work required and pre paid for. She told me it was not her job to fix it... Do not waste your time and money at this business! read more

Very expensive dress alteration: $72. She seemed grumpy and didn't understand what I asked of her. When I picked up my formal dress it was handed back to me jumbled up in a plastic GROCERY bag. The hem isn't very even. I really wanted to like this place but am very disappointed. read more

I had a broken zipper on Outdoor Research down jacket. I took it to this store and I was told that this is not an easy fix and that it will be extra for it. I paid $50 to get it fixed. When I came to pick it up the jacket looked horrible and it was completely destroyed. I got to talk to the owner who assured me that she will fix this for me, either fix the jacket or replace it outward. This was a $200 jacket. I went home thinking good luck since it seemed that it would be impossible to fix and I was thinking I am getting a new jacket. However, two days later I got a call to come and pick up and she did an amazing job. I thought she bought a jacket and replaced it that good. I would take my stuff in a heartbeat to this crew. People make mistakes and that is OK, but the ownership really stood up and made sure that despite the mistake made all was good with the customer. read more

Laura does great work at reasonable prices. First of all, I have both a unique body shape (small tall) and sense of style. I have tried many other tailors only to be disappointed by them not following my instructions for a specific look. Laura (Negii is her given name) gives me her expert advise and yet she does not override my sense of style if the two conflict. Now she does all of my alterations. read more

I've had my clothes altered here several times, mostly to hem my work pants. They do a decent job but the seamstresses are extremely difficult to work with. I tried to give them a chance multiple times but became fed up with them. They often argued with me about the length I desired for my pants. I wanted my pants to have no break and she told me "that's too short." Other times they've complained about me giving them too many items when I'd only given a suit jacket and two dress pants to hem, nothing complicated. I will not be going here anymore because of the rude, and unprofessional behavior of the workers there. I would recommend going somewhere else for alterations. read more

She is not nice to her customers, is super expensive and a couple of weeks after I took my pair of pants to fix there they un-stitched. She's rude...she misunderstood me because of her language barrier...which is fine...but she didn't even want to try to understand. She was rude and acted like she didn't even want to be helpful. The minute a white guy came in she changed. If you're brown, yellow, orange, or in between... You'll get treated like crap. If you're white... You'll get pretty good customer service. I took four pants in to be hemmed. After wearing them once the sewing fell out. I went back to the store a week later to request the pants to be fixed and they refused to because I didn't save my ticket. The staff told me she would charge me for the hemming and she quoted me an even higher price then before. I asked to talk to a supervisor and the staff had me write a letter to the owner to explain what happen. After a lot of work and talking to the business they finally agreed to fix the pants. Well, the sewing came out again so I just went and paid a different tailors to fix them. I understand mistakes but the way they handle resolving them was horrible. read more

This place is awful. I went in to have a skirt hemmed up, they pinned it and told me it would be 3 days till it would be done. No problem right? Well I come in 3 days later and it was like I was the scum of the earth! It was a different lady than when I dropped off, and she was so rude! I asked if they pressed garments because my skirt had not been pressed it was bubbling out. She told me that I was wrong and and walked away! Well I was going to let it go at that but then I get home and try on my skirt and it was 2+ inches too short! I am in loss over a vintage skirt that I don't know if I will ever wear again. read more

It's might be okey for guys' pants, but definitely not for girls. They charge you outrage fee for a simple hem. ($45!! And I purchased my dress for $50) This is pretty ridiculous. My friend who has a basic sawing machine can do that under 10 mins, too bad she's in Australia. I mean, what are they thinking that they need $45 for 10 mins job? Will not go back again. read more

I wouldn't use them again. I had sleeves taken up on a jacket and one was uneven. They corrected it but the stitching was poor and the whole thing looked unprofessionally done. Next time I need alterations I will try a dry cleaner. Less expensive and much better work. I also got major attitude when I first brought my two jackets in and was given a quote and had to pay in advance, something I never had to do before with alterations. I mean these were two new jackets with the price tags still on them that I just bought. I'm not going to drop them off after I just paid for them and not come back. I also disagree that if you are white you get better service. Wasn't true in my case. I just think you get poor customer service all the way around. read more

Its too bad you cant give less then one star, because this lady deserves it. When we showed up she was angry and rude. I wanted buttons added to my pants for suspenders. She demanded we tell her where they go. I said whatever the standard is for suspenders, which pissed her off more. Im assuming due to lack of intelligence. When i was putting the pants on she was making rude comments to my wife about the size of my clothes. Obviously we left so I cant say if her work is any good but if this is her version of customer service i cant imagine this business being opened much longer. I would be nervous to leave my clothes to alter with someone who is so angry to begin with imagine if she makes a mistake. read more

We took my daughters wedding dress to have a few MINOR nips and tucks done. She was days late in getting the dress done and we were down to the day before the wedding and she sewed the sleeves on the wrong side!!!!!!! It was too late to fix and we had already paid and she refused to give us a refund. DO NOT GO THERE, EVER!! I mean how do you sew the sleeves back on and attach them on the wrong side. She was very difficult to work with and her work was horrible. Huge mistake on our part!! read more

Laura's Alteration is by far the best alterations place I've ever been to. They are conveniently located in the mall and they could get my jeans shortened with the original hem in about 25 minutes and my jeans ended being a perfect fit. The second time I went in with a dress that was a couple sizes too small and after they let it out it was a perfect fit plus the laces and beads added made the dress look even better. On top of being able to do alterations fast, make the finished result look absolutely perfect, and having terrific customer service the prices are amazingly affordable. read more

I am extremely disappointed not only in the level of customer service but also in the quality of service provided. I tried to give this place a second chance, but it proved to be even more disastrous than the first time I went to them. The first time, my boyfriend and I took his gray slacks here so that he could get them cuffed and let out before we went to a wedding. While the customer service was not stellar (not very friendly, hard to communicate with them), and the alterations were not super cheap ($40 total), we were overall fine with the experience since we needed a place to get the alterations done quickly and their hours were great. However, on the day of the wedding, he put the pants on and after sitting down once they ripped on the seam that they had sewn to let them out (also - the pants were not at all tight on him so that was not the problem). Luckily his jacket covered it so he was able to wear the suit to the wedding. When I took the pants back to them to repair (Which they did do free of charge), I took in a dress that I needed to have a hook and eye re-sewn on. The hook was still attached to the dress, but the eye had come off and I just wanted them to re-sew it in the same place. A different lady was here this time than the first time we came, and she made the process extremely confusing (suggested we sew the entire neckline shut - which was obviously not an option considering it is a wrap dress), but I thought we finally got everything settled. She said the dress would be ready by Tuesday afternoon (which was important since I was taking the dress to a work function Thursday- something I told her). I arrived Wednesday late morning, but when I got there the dress was not complete. The lady we had met the first time we came was there, and was immediately accusing me of "being wrong" and that she couldn't complete the work because I hadn't indicated if I wanted a gold or silver hook & eye (which shouldn't have even mattered because it wouldn't show on the outside of the dress). I obviously said I didn't care, but that I was upset because I needed the dress now. She agreed to do it within the next 15 minutes while I waited. I tried on the dress and there was a large gap (at which point she also suggested to sew the neckline closed...), but I was so fed up by this point I said it was fine and that I'd use fabric tape to keep it closed. Before leaving, she wanted me to put all of the clothes (nice suit pants and a silk wrap dress) into a plastic bag rather than on a hanger.. No thanks. Very disappointing, especially as I really wanted to like this place due to the convenient location and hours, but we definitely will not be coming back. read more
