I just can't say enough good things about Mr. Sarkisian, the owner of Werner's Tailoring. He has now tailored several pairs of linen slacks, some linen shirts, showed me that my leather jacket did not need tailoring (and showed me how the sleeves were supposed to be folded back, thus saving me at least $200) and more. The last items I left with him are silk velvet shirts that I've had for awhile, untailored, until I found someone I could trust with them. I read the reviews on Werner's and initially took in some of the not-dear pieces to see how they would come out. They came out GREAT that's how. He said he can also work on sweaters, so I have several of those to leave with him now. Others have said he's "a bit more expensive" than other tailors and I would say he's quite a bit more expensive. That said, you won't get handed back a ruined piece of clothing. You take your items in and get fitted and he does the measurements. You go back to get the items and get fitted again to check for accuracy. The best businesses are ones with passionate people that enjoy sharing knowledge about their craft and take their customer relationships seriously. Yuri is an individual who has clearly taken great care in refining his art- twice as long as I've been alive might I add (around 60 years total). In addition to his independent tailoring business, he has spent years working at high end Italian clothing stores (ask him about it!) When I came in to get my groomsman suit done he complimented the fabric quality and explained to me how it would behave with each alteration. We had an enriching dialog during the fitting process, discussion on how he could perform each modification to achieve the silhouette I wanted. Naturally he is knowledgeable on formal fashion and gave me advice on building my outfit including what to look for in good dress shoes. When he sat me down to discuss pricing Yuri was gentle yet firm. What you are paying for here is not simply the labor but the wealth of knowledge accumulated from tailoring suits for over 6 decades. This is a man who knows exactly what his skills are worth and has self respect to never compromise the quality of his work. With all that said, the price was higher than average but still less than I expected for someone of his expertise. If you came in here thinking you could haggle and get a deal, I'm afraid you've missed the point. Take your business to the dry cleaner on the corner so Yuri can spend his time working for people who have a true appreciation for his craft. Finally, you can tell that Yuri has a high level of respect for his customers by his time management. Once he accepted the job, "You will come back here on August 29th", he said. "And it will be ready." Every single other tailor or seamstress I've worked with has at least once not been ready when I came to pick up my clothes, telling me to "come back in a week" or "I'll do it today, come back later". Not very confidence inspiring when your tailor literally rushes to finish your clothes in a few hours. I came back to Werner's on August 29th, and true to word, my suit was ready. For those who care about technical details, I only had him do the hem of the pants, but on the jacket I had him shorten the sleeves by about 3/4" and he did a really nice tapered pinch. I have lanky arms so this greatly improved the silhouette of the arms, and the taper was very natural from the forearm up to the armpit so it didn't stress the fabric at all. To improve the waist silhouette we decided on adding 2 darts in the back. This was more difficult and costly than taking in the rear seam, but doing the latter would have made the vent spacing look awkward and the fabric wouldn't behave naturally around the shoulders. I was apprehensive because the jacket was a double vent, meaning the rear panel looks most natural when it falls relatively flat, so adding darts would mean it would have a contour and be at risk of unnatural tension. When it came time to put on the jacket however, I was absolutely elated. Yuri simply nailed it. Both of us stared at the back of the jacket for a few minutes before he threw his hands up and declared, "It's perfect!" It was almost too good because I had to make sure not to outshine the groom. read more

My son brought in some baseball pants that he needed alterations on, and unfortunately he needed to have the work done fast so he could wear the pants for an upcoming game! Yuri was kind to my son and got his pants done in three days, even a day earlier than expected! And the alternations were PERFECT! high quality work and my son was super happy with the fit. The cost of the work was WAY more than I anticipated paying (which is why I took off one star), but the work was top-notch and I'm happy to support small businesses like this! Yuri was so nice to me when I went in to pick up the pants. I know others stated he seems unfriendly but I found him to be very kind with a big heart and it's clear he cares about his work (and is good at his craft!). I had several things of mine repaired by Yuri: a stuffed animal's clothes, a blanket and my clothes. He's consistent and did a great job every time. Like many Seattleites, he isn't very friendly. But he definitely warmed up to me after I came several times to have my things taken care of. I found him to be very nice despite his cooler and more distant style. Yuri Sarkisyan is the owner of this place and is one of the best and highly skilled tailor I have met. He knows his stuff is the simplest way I can describe him!! I was looking for a suit/Blazer for my wedding reception and I had no idea how to shop for one. I was starting to get nervous as the date neared but was saved by a friend who recommend me to talk to Yuri. I drove to his shop and had a nice chat with him about suits and what not. He gave me amazing information about suits, fabric ,different styles and told me what size & style would fit me the most. He also recommend stores where I can get good suits for reasonable prices. I did exactly what he suggested and brought back couple of suits and he picked the one which I wore to my reception and my wife loved it!!! . Since then I have gone for alteration and goes without saying they were flawless and prices are reasonable. I find "rude" comment funny, as I enjoy talking to Yuri, he is so knowledgeable when it comes to styles, clothing etc. I always pique his mind on latest trends, fashions and stores. Yuri, the owner and super professional tailor, was able to fit me in for a same-day hem for two pairs of pants for me. He was kind and quick, with a dry wit. He asked me if pants often fit funny for me (like one leg longer than other) and gently explained that one of my hips is fuller than the other, which impacted the way fabric flowed on me. I was like ohh.. I thought one leg was just shorter than the other. He also checked to make sure the hem was acceptable for me and explained why he chose to make the hem in that place. I really like that he explains everything to me- good to learn more and good for him to know what i want or will wear with the pants. Cash or check only. I was walking near Aurora Village, and passed a sign that said "Alterations". My sweatshirt middle pocket had recently ripped almost completely off after I'd caught it on something, and I just couldn't bring myself to continue walking by without finding out more. I'd never had any clothing repaired, except by my mom, unless you count iron-on patches, so this would be a new experience. I walked in and was greeted by a polite gentleman with a terse way of speaking. I asked how much it would cost to sew the pocket back on. "$5," he said. I asked how long it would take; if i would drop it off and come back, or what. He offered to fix it then and there. A few minutes later, the pocket looked as good as new. The stitching was excellent. He showed me another spot that was about to fail, and then fixed that as well. I was so happy walking out. My old sweatshirt saved, and a new resource for repairing instead of trashing! As I've been writing this review, I looked him up, and learned that Consumer Reports listed him as the Number One Tailor in Washington in 2008 and in 2009! Amazing! read more

Yuri, the owner, is an excellent tailor. I was looking around for a good tailor in the area, and stopped by after reading the reviews here. First off - he isn't rude. He's direct and professional, but is very nice. He explained everything he was going to do to the suit I needed to get altered and let me know an estimate of the price before I dropped it off. When I picked it up, it fit well and the quality of the alterations was excellent. He showed me what he had done and how he had done it afterward, and how it now fit better. Best kept secret in Seattle! Don't let the looks of this hard-to-find (just off Aurora Ave; turn east onto N 200th St, then an immediate right into driveway) hole-in-the-wall shop deter you. Yuri does full-service tailoring. The only drawback I've found......don't assume he'll tell you what needs adjusting. Tell him what you want. If you're not sure about the fit after he's pinned the garment (e.g., will hem length change? will arm hole gap? etc.), ask him. He doesn't over sell, so he won't do something you have to pay for unless you ask for it. I don't know how his fees compare to other tailors, because once I found him I've never gone anywhere else, but I recently had 2 skirts *seriously* altered and a pair of pants taken in and hemmed for ~ $75. His workmanship is excellent! FYI, he doesn't accept credit cards. read more

Terrible. Dropped off 2 garments for repair and was told to pick up a week later on Friday. I show up at around 10 am and he pulled the garments asking me if I could come back in an hour. I said no, I am going to work and would be until after he closed at 4. I left, he called me about 10 minutes later and said they were finished. And yes, the job was definitely rushed. Yuri Sarkisan is the owner or Werner's Tailoring. I was introduced to him through his alterations work at Mario's downtown. His work is simply the best. He once re-worked a dress taking it apart completely to get it to hang correctly, eventually finding that the asymmetry was because one of my legs is longer than the other. It was a hideous amount of work to figure this out, and he was very gracious about it. Yuri has updated older couture clothing to give outdated favorites a new life, and through smart alterations has made lesser quality items fit like a million bucks. Yuri is capable of work far beyond basic alterations: I've seen one of his bespoke men's suits that was featured in a local glossy magazine spread a few years ago - marvelous workmanship. Werner's Tailoring was a life saver! I bought my prom dress just a week before the event and had to have it shortened several inches in order to fit me correctly. HE was accommodating and very time sensitive, had my dress ready two days earlier than expected and gave me a call to come pick it up. He had me try on the dress before taking it home to make sure all of his amazing work had made it the dress fit correctly, and it did. I will never take my business to another tailor! read more

I'm from out of town, Florida to be exact, here visiting friends. I bought two beautiful suits I came across and took them to Werner's tailoring. Yuri is the owner and was everything I hoped for. He did an excellent job and am very happy with the results. I talked with one of his clients while i was waiting and he told me that he and his father have been coming to him for almost 20 years. Funny thing is that he said he works at Nordstroms men's department, but he always comes here, just like his father has. I know that this place has one negative review on it, but that person didn't even come to his shop. I believe that if you try Yuri, you will be as pleased as I am. read more
