Laurelwood is the last full-length public golf course in Eugene (after River Ridge closed this winter). It offers nine holes of golf, three putting greens, a driving range, and a pub. Though none of the facilities will blow you away, the grounds are green and there are a couple of holes that have beautiful backdrops. My one area of concern for Laurelwood is a potential lack of drainage--I played yesterday after 2-3 days of no rain in Eugene and every tee ball I hit plugged in the ground. Maybe it dries up course conditions improve in the summer, but the amount of water and mud I dealt with yesterday makes me not want to come back for a couple of months. read more

Good enough but why does management keep course restrooms locked up on weekends? There are signs posted that restrooms are closed for the winter. Carts $18.00. I never complain as long as the price matches the product. $25 for 9 is way out of line. Course is WET, grass is long, tee boxes are sloped, temp green on hole 6, Greens are ROUGH. Dogs and pedestrians all over. Non-paying golfers(waited for shop to close and tee'd off) jumped in front of us. Sh!t show. But, charge less than $15 and I wouldn't have said a thing. Older dude working the front with the dog sucksss. Acts like he hates his life and takes it out on everyone else. Never once has this dude not had attitude. He always acts like the customer is such an inconvenience. Wouldn't recommend golfing here. It'll just put you in a bad mood before you even tee off. Review date June 2017 My boyfriend has been going to this golf course since before he could walk. And I use to work up at the pub back in high school for the summer and have played here for a few years. We both frequent this golf course at least once a week but recently the customer service at the golf desk has been absolutely horrible. Rude desk people that don't even have the courtesy of telling you that they are plugging greens making it impossible to keep a decent round going. Then over charging our card for TWO! 9 holes on separate occasions. Safe to say we will be taking our business else where. Updated review date July 22, 2018 My boyfriend and I grew up in South Eugene and have been coming here since we were kids. Unfortunately within the past year the service at the pro shop has declined tremendously. The guys at the shop the last 3 times we have been here either unprofessionally do not tell paying customers that they are plugging greens or let a group of 7 people w/ teens in front of a group of 3 adults. This is still a golf course folks, even if it is a municipal. Probably won't be coming back and that's a shame because we have been loyal to laurelwood for a pretty long time. There are some long, really long holes at this one! Usually a pretty busy course and the neat thing is the fact that its really not far from downtown Eugene. The new management company really seems to be trying hard at making a go of this place. Poorly marked but a beautiful course, the prices are reasonable as are the carts. read more

This is one of the nicer and more interesting municipal courses I've played. Plenty of length from the back tees and lots of terrain variation give this course some teeth. Elevated greens have some tricky slope to them. Hills and lots of mature trees make Laurelwood visually pleasing. Course maintenance used to be a weakness, but this has improved. And the Pub does unusually good and interesting bar food, with great views. read more

I was in Eugene ao i figured why not. Eugene, do yourself a favor and play this course. While not a perfect course, the greens were some of the best Ive played outside some more. upscale courses. If they set them up faster, they would be very difficult to putt on. When I got on the first green, I was sctually in awe of their quality. Being hilly you are faced with lots of different lies to challenge your skills. Premium for finding fairways and greens. Service for me was plenty adequate for a 9 hoe muni under Covid conditions. Went to hit a bucket of balls today and they were wet and covered with mud and grass - the ball washing machine must be broken, or that's just the way they come. Also, two rows of golf carts block the most direct route to the clubhouse so myself, and every other golfer I saw arrive, had to maneuver through the carts with golf bags in tow. I tried to suggest to the cashier that perhaps having just one row of carts would allow golfers to get by and he gave me an attitude, saying that's the way it is - really ?? I can deal with a broken range ball machine but you can keep the attitude! read more

First off the Golf course isn't that bad. What is bad is the service. My buddy and I had a 5:10 tee off time. We were 2 minutes late. We were told that was okay by the pro shop attendant. She then told us we could tee off at 5:30. We waited at the putting green for 20 minutes without a single golfer coming up to tee off during that time. We then tee'd off at 5:30 when we were told and immediately had another group waiting behind us... what was the point of this ? To punish everyone behind us for being 2 minutes late? This Golf attendant is on a huge power trip and is ruining the image of this Golf course single handedly. read more

I got to say I have a lot of fun on this course. Like a lot of Muni courses, it is usually better groomed in the summer, but not a big deal. Some holes you can really bombs away on, others you have to be a little more strategic with club selection, especially holes 2 and 5 that are shorter par 4s that dog leg right. Almost all the greens are elevated which definitely reduces the margin of error on approach shots. If I had a critique, it's that even on the tee box you'll encounter a lot of uneven footing. I expect that in the fairway/rough etc, but when I'm teeing off I do appreciate an even surface. In the fall and spring it is also easy to lose sight of balls because of all the fallen leaves/daisies that don't seem to be tended to.They re-did holes 7-9 which I REALLY like. Hole 7 fits my eye a lot better now that there isn't a huge tree right in front of my line of sight blocking everything. But I will miss the feeling of bombing a drive over that tree. Hole 8 is now a short par 3, only 119 from the whites. I love/hate that there's a par 3 I can't take a full swing on, and it has a brand new green with a lot of intricate slopes to it. The 9th hole is now a par 5. Unlike the old par 5 that used to be on the 8th hole, this one is not reachable in two. If you hit a good drive, you'll be rewarded with a blind second shot over a hill some 220-250 yards to the green . This also has a brand new green and it may be the largest green one on the course, and rightfully so. There's often hot deals on golfnow that can make this place a steal. With the re-done last 3 holes I think standard green fees in the summer are fair, to perhaps a tad high for there only being 9 holes. They do have a chipping and putting area with a range so you can warm up thoroughly before a round, which not all munis can say. Staff always friendly. All and all a challenging but fun course in the heart of Eugene! read more

Located a really closely to the University of Oregon campus and being a muni in town, it's fairly busy. One of the first things that people notice is the "train" that you can take down from the first tee or if you are going to their driving range. The hill is steep, so it is nice to take this slow ride down. It's cool because I've never rode anything else like it at any other course. Even though it looks easy, it actually can get pretty difficult. It has plenty of different elevation changes and many of the lies you will get will be uneven. This is because it is located close to the bottom of the mountain. It's relatively a short course overall. Parking is pretty open and the price isn't too bad. read more

I remember the days when this golf course used to be something. I started playing here about 5 years ago. It was well loved and talked about by its staff and frequent players. There was always a good round to be had and lots of great memories were made. I even remember the cool night golf tournament that used to be held there. The staff in the pro shop were great. They were funny, engaging, and always made me and my friends feel welcome. Now I feel awkward and like I'm a bother. Whoever the woman is that works the pro-shop is just so rude. She always makes my friends and I feel like we are ruining her day or taking up her air space. I mean, I'm just coming to play a little golf with my friends. Sorry for making a tee time? This lady never says thank you or smiles. I don't see many of the patrons of Laurelwood that I used to, and the shape of the course has become uncared for and lackluster. I don't know what happened, but I'd recommend going to Springfield over this place. read more

They say a good golfer can golf on any golf course. The same is true for a bad golfer, I know from experience. I've golfed badly on many golf courses and I can now add this one to the list. The golf course was beautiful, green everywhere you look. My game wasn't as beautiful. I wish that I could come back again, but not play golf. Like I would pay whatever I need to pay for a golf game, but it would be nice if I could just go have a picnic with some friends on the course. It's a perfect spot for a picnic if you don't factor in people golfing around you. There could be so many more activities being done on this course. I feel like this golf course is being under utilized with just golf. I'm mostly pushing for this because I'm not a great golfer, but I am great at frisbee. Always liked this course for being low-key, cool and best of all affordable! Not any more... the new management thinks it's ok to charge $20 to play 9 holes on what most people would call a goat track. This is a municipal course, start treating it as one! and $12 to hit a large bucket of the worst range balls I've ever seen?? Not very cool. I hope they rethink the price increase because I know a lot of people won't be coming back. I had a very bad experience while golfing at Laurelwood. I went on a Monday afternoon and I was one of the only people on the course. A maintenance guy came up to me and was being very rude just because I went off the golf cart path a little. As I apologized several times, he proceeded to drive to the middle of the hole I was golfing at and sit there until I was finished. Great scenery but very disrespectful. read more

I used to enjoy going to Laurelwood after work, but the etiquette and speed of play anymore doesn't really make the cost savings worth it. The big one is, there is a group of guys that play a scramble every evening with 6 to 10 guys, and they almost never let anyone pass. They kind of act like they own the place, and half of them look like they might have played in the OPLGA (Oregon Penal League Golf Association) up in Salem. Then, the real fun part is when there finished, they often get beers and sit at the 9th green and basically commentate on your golfing (they think there funny and likable). Once in a while one of them comes up with something funny but usually it's just annoying and sad. If you go, go in the morning before the college kids or groups show up. read more

This is a gem of a little course with interesting elevations, distance, and as much challenge as you want to make with your play. For a 9 it is great. The course is well kept despite some renovation and redesign. Pace was great and everyone is very courteous with great etiquette in play. Friendly service in the Pro Shop has been fantastic and the Pub is perfect for a beer and a burger after the round. I have had a great time every visit! read more

A favorite local golf course of mine -- with caveats! First off, for a 9-hole course close to downtown Eugene and the University of Oregon, Laurelwood represents an excellent value. The scenery--think forested rolling hills and views of Spencer's Butte--is fantastic. Hole #1, which plunges into a valley, is a real treat. A few other holes--namely number 5,6 and 7--are also very unique and just a lot of fun. Did I mention that the staff is really friendly, and that they offer a discounted rate for U of O students (as well as seniors and veterans)? But here's the problem... in the later hours this place turns into a zany free-for-all. Because Laurelwood is a municipal course, it's used heavily by dog walkers, neighbours, and the like. The last time I golfed Laurelwood, I had to contend with a man actually SLEEPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FAIRWAY on hole #2. When I woke him up, he offered to move for me -- jeez, thanks. That same round, I had to deal with a dog walker carrying a 9 iron on #3 who was trying to golf for free, and who had the nerve to actually chip and putt as I waited to tee off. Then things got really crazy on hole #9. At the tee box, one of the neighbours was practicing his swing and readying to hit some balls. Even though he got out of the way, I still had to deal with some drunken folk from the pub who seemingly danced their way on the #9 green and started playing putt-putt! Also, when you're walking between holes 2 and 3, be careful as some long drivers at the driving range will try to aim their drive at you. With all of this said, Laurelwood is always a challenging and super-fun golf course, and represents a terrific value in Eugene. read more
