Unless you're lucky enough to get onto Eugene Country Club, the golf at Emerald Valley is the best you'll find within 15 minutes of Eugene. The course is in pretty good shape, the greens roll true, and you're out in a peaceful setting. Lots of trees here--be prepared to have to punch out of trouble; you might even find yourself needing to hit a punch shot after finding the fairway, as some holes have trees growing over the edge of the fairway. Trees aside, there are a couple of water hazards and a fair amount of bunkers that can hurt your score if you aren't careful. Overall, I think this is a pretty solid course. What some of the other reviews have mentioned about the staff seem to be true. While the first employee I met, a college student at UO, was friendly, the person working the front desk seemed stand-off-ish and didn't seem thrilled that I was playing that day. I think the customer service could use some work. read more

Very bad service and extremely unprofessional staff. My son and his friends went golfing using Youth on Course to help with the ridiculous price of a round. They called ahead to ask if they could reserve a tee time, and the employee told them they could just come in and they would find an opening. To avoid the risk of showing up and not being able to play, my son went ahead and booked a tee time. When they arrived, they checked in at the front desk, where a young employee told them that next time they could just come in. Then an older employee, who I assume was the manager, came over and accused them of trying to cheat the system. They weren't trying to cheat anything--they literally did exactly what they were told to do. They were ultimately charged the normal rate , but apparently that wasn't enough. While they were teeing off, the same older employee drove up in his golf cart and started calling them "bitches" and "punks" and accusing them of trying to pull a fast one. Completely unacceptable behavior from someone representing a golf course. If this is how you treat young golfers who are simply trying to use a legitimate youth program, maybe the problem isn't the kids. Maybe it's the staff. They were also told not to come back. After being treated like that, I don't think they'll have any trouble following that instruction. Extremely unprofessional and embarrassing customer service. If the course doesn't want to participate in Youth on Course, perhaps they should reconsider the program--or reconsider who they have dealing with customers. read more

Great, but challenging course. I can't comment on the price because I have a youth on course card which I love that the accept here. $5 golf for 18 holes! Conditions are very good but the greens are always very very hard. I enjoy golfing here and my friends grandpa lives on the 5th hole. I'd been wanting to play this course for quite a long time. I don't know, I guess the name sounds magical, I like the Eugene area, and I love golf. Well, I finally got the chance to play it yesterday. We had the Passport coupon book which gives you a break on many Oregon Courses. We made a day trip of it. From Tigard left at 9 arrived shy of 11am - made great time. Course was pretty, I would say in nice shape. Several of the Women's Tee Boxes (or the Red tees) were sandy-not ideal. The marshal gave us a bit of advice on how to play the approach. The greens slope forward, so stay below the hole if you can. The greens were a bit challenging, if you miss a putt long it goes quite a ways down the hill. I was unimpressed with the shop, amenities, but the course I recommend. The cashier, pro (I am assuming) was slightly uppity. Also, I really wanted a souvenir shirt and their women's selection was lame. It's common. Loads of cool colors on the Men's shirts, clothes and limited women's items. It's end of the season, so I guess. This is the Home Course of the Oregon Ducks I would think there would be more options. Washroom seemed industrial, not updated. It was clean and fine. Commute home and back was slick-GPS worked perfectly. We didn't stay for a drink here, but they had tables outside for patrons to celebrate the 19th hole. read more

Amen on most of the comments here - nice course, but the pro is is rude as can be & uppity as can be. The price of carts is ridiculous - especially for carts that aren't exactly top notch. Making a single playing with a 3-some pay $36 for a cart - absurd. Even when rates go down to $38, paying $2 less for a cart...essentially doubling the price of golf? Eugene in desperate need for a nice, fairly priced course close to town. Tokatee MUCH nicer, but over an hour drive. Amazing a metro area of $230,000 doesn't have more good public courses. A 3-4 start course with a 1-2 service in the clubhouse. Restaurant help - much better. read more

Awesome Golf facility. Came up and played two rounds in June. The course conditions are excellent. Greens are fast, firm and hard to hold. But from tee to green while it's a challenge, its a fair layout and shooting a good # is attainable. The practice facilities are fantastic. Great grass range for the general public, with two separate practice greens. In the back of the range there is a private practice area reserved for members and the Oregon Ducks golf teams (EV is the home of the Ducks). It might be one of the most amazing short game areas in the country. Two big green complexes with plenty of different slopes and breaks. Perfect turf condition around the greens, and you can back up to around 75-80 yards and hit shots onto the greens. Where else do you get to do that? The PGA Teaching professional Bob Duncan is also spectacular. He doesn't just work with you on the driving range, but he takes you on the course and makes sure you improve out there! I was a little apprehensive after reading the negative reviews about staff - will I get the rude guy to help kick off my morning? Lucky day - we were warmly greeted which made for a good start. The course was busy when we went to play so it made for a slow day. We noticed some people just quit playing after 9 holes. Greens were a little tough and the edge of the cups took a while to get used to. There was a lot of hitting and waiting which doesn't help your game at all. I am USGA and new OGA member, and showed up to play 18 holes of golf here and paid nearly just as much for the cart, that I did for the 18 holes of golf! I was pretty surprised that a public golf course would be charging that much. The golf carts are falling apart, seats torn, services overdue, belts broken, and the first one selected didn't work; second one had a broken belt, and ripped seats. Alas, finally, the third one was functional. The front 9 holes are in relatively decent condition, but the back 9 are in terrible shape. The fairways are not kept in shape and there are a ton of weeds surrounding the greens, which I'm sure the staff would say is just part of the golf course difficulty, I'm assuming. The only thing keeping this place in business is the surrounding neighborhood being nice. I will not be back. read more

I went to this golf course to pick up some stuff a friend had left on a recent trip. The person at the pro shop desk didn't seem to want to help me after a little prompting thought he found what I was after, never smiling. He didn't look like he enjoyed his job. I've been to emerald valley many times, I love the course and haven't had any problems until last Saturday, from the moment we arrived at the golf course my family and I were disrespected by the staff. It ruined our day and all of us have taken breaks from golf because of how mad we were. Their general manager is a cocky arrogant prick who enjoys talking down to people like they're less than. It's unbelievable, I paid 80$ to be treated like absolute dog shit. I will never be back, I will tell all of my friends and family to never go there. Emerald valley ought to be ashamed of themselves for how they treated me, my 59 year old uncle, my 52 year old uncle and our family friend who's in his late 40s. They can shove their golf course up their ass. You can go to Middlefield which is 6 miles south of emerald valley, and spend half the money and have 5x the fun. read more

This is easily the best public course in the area. It is a challenging course but well maintained and beautiful grounds. The greens in particular have been in excellent shape every time I have played and quite quick. The practice area allows you to hit off grass surface and has chipping green with practice bunkers. The course is in amazing shape. Greens are fast and the fairways are perfect and allow for great roll. Good price as well. What I don't understand is the expense for carts. I played this weekend with my father and 6 yr old son. For 2 carts it was $71. Wow!! The carts were close to the cost of the green fees. Seems beyond steep. May prevent me from coming back. Course layout is somewhat difficult, but has a few interesting holes. The greens are a joke. I played this weekend with some friends and the greens were harder than concrete and stupid fast as a result with some circus pin locations. Please, water the greens if it doesn't rain. This club is the worst. I grew up in Eugene playing at Emerald Valley most of my childhood. It has gone down hill ever since, apparently. I was here with a foursome at the cost of nearly $400, a price I am happy to pay for a great experience. We had anything but. Emerald Valley golf course was the venue for my niece's wedding. I'm not exactly sure how long this facility has been here . It is a little run down from my understanding it has new owners. The original wedding coeordinator was awsome. From my understanding she had quit prior to my niece's wedding, however she did come back to finish what she had started with my niece's wedding. She did a fantastic job from beginning to end. The new wedding coeordinator, She is still learning and she did what she could, she has a lot to learn. She deserves a chance she is still learning. Now as far as the cleanliness of the venue, I believe that in renting a venue for such an event the venue should be cleaned prior to setting up however this was not the case. As we were setting up we noticed the windowsills add spider webs all over them with dead spiders and flys. it had not been dusted. By the time we got there the next day for the wedding the windowsills had been cleaned the floors had been cleaned the dance floor had been waxed and polished. It looked very very nice. When it was so all said and done. It was beautiful. The dinner menu was coconut curry chicken, mashed potatoes seasoned mixed vegetables and a dinner roll. The venue had provided the food it was very very good. I am giving this place a 3 stars because of The lack of cleanliness before setting up. To me if you are going to use a venue, everything should be clean before that venue is to be set up regard less of what kind of venue it is. read more

Growing up, I used to come play golf here all the time. It's an even better course now, but when I went this summer, I was surprised by how much the prices have jumped in just a few years. Especially these days when people are budget conscious, I was disappointed by the cost for my dad and I to play 9 holes. It was a great day out and it's always nice to be on the course. This course is a challenge! Very long and firm. The greens are mounded and during the summer extremely fast and firm. Don't expect to hold very many of them. Best time to play would be April through middle of July. After that only for experienced golfers. read more

I live in MI and happened to have a few free hours while in town. I found the Emerald Valley course to be pretty solid. For a Midwesterner, the views were great and the course was a challenge. The tree placement seemed very strategic and made a few shots more difficult than they needed to be. The greens were definitely fast.
