Lava Java is one of the best coffee shops I visited in a long time. The exterior has the beach vibe and perfect colors and looks cute. There are lot of seating options available outside and lot of customers enjoying the sunshine on a November day, a delight to watch. As you enter, you see this beautiful decor and a well-maintained cafe. The first section has some tables and then as you enter the main cafe area. The staff friendly welcomes and assist you with your order. The staff has that vibe which makes you feel come back to the cafe every day of your stay. We ordered coffee and croissant. The crossaint was delicious and melted in the mouth. Highly recommended place while you visit the Ortley or Seaside beaches.

I've been coming here since they opened, and everything about this place keeps me coming back year after year. The beautiful space to sit outside or on the porch in the quiet offseason, the kind and genuine staff, and the delicious coffee and sandwiches. I can't say enough about this business!

Super cute place with great decor & outdoor seating. Coffee & teas were amazing. Their gluten free breakfast wrap was amazing-- and didn't fall apart!

Very cute exterior, small inside though so it definitely felt cramped (but we did go on a Sunday morning so that makes sense for it to be busy). The employee who helped us at the register was VERY kind and warm. Like the type of nice you remember, which I love. Our coffees were ready in about 5-8 minutes. I will say there wasn't enough espresso in the large latte I got but I added more when we got home. The sugar free syrup was really yummy and it was still really good before I added more espresso! 6 bucks for a HUGE cup lowkey is a steal. We paid about 21 bucks for two large iced lattes with syrup and a small iced matcha. Overall this coffee did what it needed to do! Only way I'd improve it is more espresso in the lattes.

The environment is fun and friendly! The food service is quick, and the beverage options are perfect for all day long! The staff serves with a smile and pep in their step! Follow @disheswdanielle on insta

Shop is absolutely adorable and cozy inside, and have never walked in without being greeted with a smile. Really great coffee even my dog loves the way it smells. BUT the real stars of the show that deserve an honorable mention are the crumb cake and the bran muffins. Best bran muffins this side of the Mississippi. 10/10 recommend

I came here with my friends on vacation and enjoyed it pretty well. The Lava Java drink was very good as well, espresso and hot chocolate are a great combo. This was my first pork bun and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sourdough is great. The people here were quite nice, especially the lady who brought our food out onto the patio and made sure we were taken care of. All in all a beautiful little coffee shop on the beach.

Every legitimate tourist destination has a coffee place like this - an establishment with a slightly quirky personality (is it really quirky though if every coffeehouse has one?) and tons of bougie syrup flavors to squirt into caffeinated beverages. I stopped by here on a recent Monday morning with a noble chum on our way back from a sunrise toilet paper run (vacations aren't just rainbows and unicorns). Lava Java had attracted our attention the day before on a morning stroll because it had had a line out the door, and a lot of flashy exterior signage. Clearly one of the more popular establishments in that area. In recent months I've become obsessed with rose-flavored lattes, which I've strangely found a difficult time locating in NYC - you'd think it would be the bedrock of civilization for something as basic as coffee - but can usually find pretty easily in suburbia. They are delicious and I strongly recommend them in all situations. This particular one was very good; the flavor was strong without being overwhelming and the extra shot I ordered provided a nice little nip to start the day. It looked like they had some standard food options as well, but I bypassed them knowing I'd likely be having a formal sit-down meal shortly. Calorie consumption must be planned to an extent. There was a short line to order, but I don't think we were in there for more than five or six minutes total. They had a legit crew of baristas behind the counter, I believe three or four people, all of whom seemed to be in pleasant spirits. And while we were waiting, there were various pop culture shrines to occupy our attention, including the attached New Kids on the Block homage and I believe one for the universally beloved Betty White. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you sense a caffeine headache coming on and/or your palate is craving a floral flavor.

Came here today as it's supposed to be 77 degrees in November. I don't know if I am to be happy or sad. Anyway great little place super friendly, quick, and the outside seating is really nice. They also have this book case outside in memorial of a girl who loved to read. Take a look at it and add something to it for others!

When they finally gave them to us, it wasn't even the full amount we ordered. Seriously? Ain't no way this was 2 eggs it felt like nothing. And apparently getting basic things like powdered sugar and butter was too much to ask. There was no powdered sugar, no butter, and the coffee was absurdly sweet. Nothing about this experience felt properly managed. The service was rude, the food was disappointing, and the entire place felt completely unorganized. For what we paid, I expected at least the bare minimum. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Seeing the reviews made me believe this place would live up to the stars but it fell short. I wouldn't recommend eating here if it's past opening and even better skip the restaurant completely.

Beach Culture is unabashedly that - a little eatery that celebrates all things beachy! Having said this, I appreciate Beach Culture for what it is - a little stop for a small bite on the way to the beach. Believe it or not, there is usually a line outside this place on the weekends, and I can see why with a younger crowd especially. Young, beach-going vacationers will feel the pull of the waves as they stop in for a smoothie or an acai bowl. (If I was a kid, that's what I would do anyway!) I came here a few times last week - once to check it out and grab some food for myself, and once to bring my nieces because I felt like they would dig this place. I purchased a few of their toasts both times - for $4.50 each, the price is admittedly a liiiiiittle on the steep side for some bread with toppings, but Beach Culture needs to survive somehow, right? I do have to say, both toasts were very well balanced with fruit and toppings (one was banana / peanut butter / cacao and the other was strawberry / nutella / cacao ) - really nice for a light breakfast. I also grabbed a shaka coffee which was extremely tasty - and I can't wait to try their other specialty mixes. My nieces opted for a acai bowl and went absolutely bonkers for it, saying it was better then Playa Bowls (which is their all time favorite). There are a few things that prevent me from giving Beach Culture five stars, even if those things can't be helped. Seating is definitely limited - there are only two small tables outside - and the workers here can be a little on the slow side (although, they are all so lovely and friendly). But it's BEACH CULTURE, so if you're in a rush when going to this place, are you even at the beach? I also will admit their menu is a bit limited, but I take it for face value. If you want a quick / light snack, a coffee, or a smoothie, then this place will satisfy your needs. I adore this little eatery at the Jersey Shore, and will be coming here to get my caffeine fix!

The girls who work here are so helpful despite it being crazy busy all the time. I've ordered the regular Playa acai bowl and added in on extra PB, strawberry, chia seeds, and cocoa nibs. The acai power is also good and I subbed it with vanilla protein powder. It barely altered the taste of the bowl. My boyfriend loves the coconut power and it definitely holds its frozen consistency better than others I've had. My one comment would be that the poke concept within the shop does change up the smell of the place. It doesn't necessarily leave a bad smell, but I do think the two compete with each other. The only miss of the night was the house-made chips: while tasty, they were surprisingly hefty and filled us up a bit too much before the main course, which cut into our appetites. For my entree, I had the pecan-encrusted Atlantic salmon. The coating was flavorful without overpowering the fish, and the salmon itself was tender and perfectly cooked. Others in our family ordered poke bowls and loved them. They had super fresh ingredients and generous portions. We skipped dessert at the restaurant since there are so many excellent ice cream options just a short walk away, but we left very satisfied. To make a long story short, the food was very good--creative, flavorful, and well worth the praise. Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the excessive smoke and heat coming from the open kitchen. I'm not sure who designed the ventilation system, but it clearly isn't working properly. There was a visible haze of smoke throughout the dining room, our eyes were watering, and everyone at our table was uncomfortably warm. I felt especially bad for the kitchen and wait staff, who have to work in those conditions every day. By the time we got home, all of our clothes smelled like smoke and had to be washed.
