Lava Java is a great staple in the community, seriously one of the better coffee and breakfast spots around, and you'll know that once you see the line, lol. The Great Divide is great, and I honestly can't tell the difference between the coveted pork roll and Taylor ham, but I guess that's part of the fun. The coffee is exquisite, made fresh and very well. I noticed a bunch of drinks pre-made, so it looks like you can order ahead, and I'd recommend doing that if so. The inside is cramped, but it's generally meant for picking up and ordering, not a typical coffee spot with laptops and headphones. read more

Lava Java is one of the best coffee shops I visited in a long time. The exterior has the beach vibe and perfect colors and looks cute. There are lot of seating options available outside and lot of customers enjoying the sunshine on a November day, a delight to watch. As you enter, you see this beautiful decor and a well-maintained cafe. The first section has some tables and then as you enter the main cafe area. The staff friendly welcomes and assist you with your order. The staff has that vibe which makes you feel come back to the cafe every day of your stay. We ordered coffee and croissant. The crossaint was delicious and melted in the mouth. Highly recommended place while you visit the Ortley or Seaside beaches. read more

Very cute exterior, small inside though so it definitely felt cramped (but we did go on a Sunday morning so that makes sense for it to be busy). The employee who helped us at the register was VERY kind and warm. Like the type of nice you remember, which I love. Our coffees were ready in about 5-8 minutes. I will say there wasn't enough espresso in the large latte I got but I added more when we got home. The sugar free syrup was really yummy and it was still really good before I added more espresso! 6 bucks for a HUGE cup lowkey is a steal. We paid about 21 bucks for two large iced lattes with syrup and a small iced matcha. Overall this coffee did what it needed to do! Only way I'd improve it is more espresso in the lattes. read more

Lava Java is the best coffee shop on the island, period. Great offerings and a wonderful vibe that spills out onto the sidewalk with ample table space for lots of people. The owner is very friendly and runs a very efficient business. Lava Java is open almost all the year except for maybe January. It's a great place to connect with friends, pitstop on a bike ride or stroll with the children. Problem is, is that there's only one coffee machine making coffee for people on line and "online" orders. Yes the coffee was good, but I heard several people waiting for their coffee say "never again next time Dunkin". I'll probably go again but not on the weekend. Every legitimate tourist destination has a coffee place like this - an establishment with a slightly quirky personality (is it really quirky though if every coffeehouse has one?) and tons of bougie syrup flavors to squirt into caffeinated beverages. I stopped by here on a recent Monday morning with a noble chum on our way back from a sunrise toilet paper run (vacations aren't just rainbows and unicorns). Lava Java had attracted our attention the day before on a morning stroll because it had had a line out the door, and a lot of flashy exterior signage. Clearly one of the more popular establishments in that area. In recent months I've become obsessed with rose-flavored lattes, which I've strangely found a difficult time locating in NYC - you'd think it would be the bedrock of civilization for something as basic as coffee - but can usually find pretty easily in suburbia. They are delicious and I strongly recommend them in all situations. This particular one was very good; the flavor was strong without being overwhelming and the extra shot I ordered provided a nice little nip to start the day. It looked like they had some standard food options as well, but I bypassed them knowing I'd likely be having a formal sit-down meal shortly. Calorie consumption must be planned to an extent. There was a short line to order, but I don't think we were in there for more than five or six minutes total. They had a legit crew of baristas behind the counter, I believe three or four people, all of whom seemed to be in pleasant spirits. And while we were waiting, there were various pop culture shrines to occupy our attention, including the attached New Kids on the Block homage and I believe one for the universally beloved Betty White. Definitely worth a visit, especially if you sense a caffeine headache coming on and/or your palate is craving a floral flavor. read more

I stopped by here yesterday with my wife and our twins for our morning coffee. Whenever we are traveling we like to try local coffee houses and since we were in Seaside Heights on this morning we went to Lava Java. This coffee shop is a tiny place located on Route 35. The inside was busy on this day with no real seating, a pastry display case and a small area selling Mud Coffee. Then outside they had plenty of places to sit. For my coffee on this morning I went with a large latte and my wife went with a small mocha. I also decided to get us a pork egg and cheese sandwich to split. After maybe a 10 minute wait or so, we had our coffees and were on our way. My coffee here ended up being ok. I feel like it had more milk than coffee and so while I knew that the coffee was there, I had a difficult time finding it. Thankfully the pork, egg and cheese sandwich was better. While a little pricey at $9 it was large and I enjoyed the ham and melted American cheese on it. My wife did enjoy her coffee though. The bottom line for me is that I might head back here again in the future. While I wasn't a huge fan of my coffee, I did enjoy the breakfast sandwich. read more

One of my favorite coffee shops in the state! Lava Java is a small local coffee shop that has breakfast and lunch options. Located in the downtown area of Lavallette this is definitely a must try! Make sure you come early on the summer weekends to beat the line. You have the option to call and order ahead of time or go in the shop. There isn't any room inside to eat. However, you can sit in their patio area in front of the shop. They are very accommodating to dietary needs and have options like dairy free milks and gluten-free bread. I really enjoyed their iced coffee! They have A LOT fun and unique flavors to choose from. Now the food is also really good! I recommend getting the pork roll (taylor ham), egg and cheese sandwich or the granola and yogurt with fruit. Both solid choices! They do have pastries for sale too. For breakfast one of us had a sausage, egg, and cheese wrap which was good but nothing special. I had the avocado toast which was expensive and pretty disappointing. They literally take white sliced bread, toast it, and spread avocado on it. For the price, I expected higher quality bread, and it should have toppings or at minimum be drizzled with olive oil, sea salt, etc. We did grab some pastries to go, and they were awesome. Nice coffee shop close to the beach. So many flavors for coffee, I tried the cookie dough which was good, it wasnt too sweet which I prefer so i was very happy with it! They usually sell breakfast sandwiches etc but the kitchen is currently closed for maintenance. They do sell pastries. read more

The cappuccino comes with three shots (that's a lot of caffeine!!) and the espresso comes with one shot. I asked if I could split the shots, for a total of two in each drink. I was denied. They were going to charge me an additional $4 for a shot of espresso on top of my already $5 cappuccino and $4 espresso shot. $13 for two coffees is ridiculous.
