Recently visited and can't say enough about the food and service. Everyone was so friendly and provided helpful feedback on what to try since it was our first time visiting. Everything is homemade even the bread which is very unusual. It would be so easy to serve store bought bread like so many places do but they don't. As equally important, the food was top notch and well deserved to be on the TMs Top 50 list. We tried the brisket, beef rib, spicy sausage, tamale and several sides. The green ones were a hit as were the Mac and cheese. The only one small thing for me was the brisket could use a pinch more salt for my taste. What a find in a small Texas town! The Q was amazing. When we ordered, the owner cut the brisket in front of us - a beautiful piece of meat! The customer service and food are great. The brisket was some of the best I've ever had, the pork ribs (marinated in big red) were a delicious and unique experience. They also have pork belly CHEESECAKE which I will be eating in my dreams. I'm so excited to have a local BBQ spot. We will be frequenting the Victoria location regularly. This place was an absolute home run!!! It's definitely a quaint family owned place with amazing service!! Lots of gluten free options. Kelli (the owner) and Hunter helped us make the best choices for our meals, then as we were paying we found out they offer free Lone Star beer and free Blue Bell ice cream with the meals. Dont let looks deceive you! This may be my all time favortie barbq spot. We stop in every time tthrough town. It has the best turkey I have ever eaten and I could make a meal out of the green beans. I had a great experience at Lavaca BBQ! I had the three meat plate with potato salad and bbq gumbo. It's $24 but let me explain. He uses nothing but super prime briskets and makes his own sausage so you're paying for quality. If you want cheap bbq you're going to get crappy bbq. The brisket was perfect. Just look at my pictures! Great amount of saltiness and fatty-ness with a great bark. The ribs were sturdy enough to stay together yet fall apart in your mouth when you gum your way into their tenderness. Salt, pepper, paprika and chili powder?? The homemade sausage was central Texas textbook. The pickles were homemade, as well as the marinated onions and three types of sauce. Original, dolce, and spicy. The potatoes salad was shockingly good. Normally you go to a bbq joint and it's all the same, theirs was good. The bbq gumbo was a file gravy with cutting board scraps. Well after a rainy start I made it to LaVaca BBQ and I must say I was the first person there. I ordered a 3 meat plate Brisket, Ribs, and Turkey with my sides being jalapeno cream corn and gumbo. All I can say about the whole meal was it was worth driving in a storm and everything was great... Christine surprised me with one of their famous Brisket tamales wrapped in butcher paper and it was fantastic. I got to talk to Kelli and I must say she is doing an awesome job as the Pitmaster there and it's good to see women competing right up there with the big dawgs and it's no wonder they made the top 50 with all the great food they are putting out.. Before I left I had to try the smoked cheesecake with a side of blue bell ice and that did it for me I was stuffed. All I can say if you want some great BBQ make that drive to Port Lavaca it's definitely worth it... I used to be a part owner of a top 50 BBQ restaurant and can say that all the food is excellent and see why they have made the top 50. The brisket was excellent. Very juicy and flavorful. The service was phenomenal. They had a young man who was helping people bring food to their tables. He was frequently coming around and spraying sanitizer on door handles and areas frequented by people. He was very friendly and kind towards my kids. They offer free blue bell vanilla ice cream with every meal. They had outdoor seating under the shade of the former gas station covering but I think it could have used a big a$$ fan like the one they have inside. I would have liked to have tried the desserts but they did not have the ones they advertise when we went. We will definitely go back the next time we are in port Lavaca. My family and I visited LaVaca BBQ and I had a smile on my face from the time we arrived until we left. We were greeted with a good ole fashion welcome at the door and when it was time to order they allowed us to taste the different meets if we wanted. My husband got the ribs, my daughter got the turkey, and I got the brisket BBQ potato. We were all satisfied with our meals. My daughter and I also loved the corn and the BBQ gumbo. Ergo, we stopped by as we were going through Port LaVaca, realizing they had been recognized by Texas Monthly as one of 50 best in state. My boyfriend and I just tried this place for the first time tonight. I've never been real big on BBQ but he wanted to try it so I agreed. I am so glad I did! The pork ribs I had were so tender and had such great flavor! Tried some of the brisket my boyfriend had ordered and it was amazing - the pulled pork was great too! As far as sides go, we had the jalapeño cream corn - not too spicy and, again, really good flavor - the coleslaw, and potato salad. All their sides are homemade and delicious.
