The green beans were the star if the show. Nicely seasoned with a bit of a fresh garlic flavor. Good. The brisket was a bit dry and not very flavorful and the sausage was fair. I greatly enjoyed my meal at Mumphord's Place! As a new visitor to Victoria I was excited to receive multiple recommendations from locals along with stellar reviews on Google and Yelp for a good BBQ restaurant. Located on the older side of town a block past DeTar Navarro Hospital on a corner. Don't judge it by the outside, it's inside an older building, I knew I was there from the smell of the Bbq cooking in the air. Inside was cheerful clean and filled with picnic and smaller tables, seat yourself. You place your order at the counter and they bring it out to your table. The gentleman taking my order was friendly and welcoming. Turns out he was the owner! In 3 minutes a sweet young lady was bringing me my food and utensils. They have all of the meats plus all the homemade sides one would wish to order! I went with the two meats (ribs and brisket) accompanied by potato salad and green beans, with banana pudding for dessert later. It's not a full service restaurant but I was checked on and looked after multiple times by servers. Nice big generous helpings. This meal was heavenly, sides like your Memaw would make for family and moist and meaty ribs and brisket, seasoned and cooked perfectly...no salt or pepper needed here, just a little of their delicious sauce! Come here on the recommendation of a couple of friends. Glad I did!! Great service. Everyone was very friendly. Ordered the 3 meat plate because I couldn't decide. Everything was very good and flavorful. I love homemade banana pudding but I hate getting "homemade " that someone adds nilla wafers to canned pudding. When asked about their pudding they assured me it was homemade pointing to a lady in the kitchen. It was definitely the real deal! Delicious banana pudding. I plan on returning next time I'm in town. Went to Mumfords after several recommendations. They did not disappoint. I was met with the smell of smoke when I parked. I had to visit the pit area I. The back where Joe and the crew showed me the variety of meats getting smoked. Went inside and could not decide what meats I wanted. I am mainly vegetarian so I asked to devise a Dr. Smith sample plate (one rib, slice of brisket and one of turkey, one piece of chicken and two slices of sausage). The lady at the register said that would be a four meat plate but I didn't want several pieces of each so I settled for ribs and brisket. Ribs were fall of the bone and smoky. The brisket was tender and flavorful. The beans and potato salad were delicious with a hint of sweetness. The bread was soft and fluffy. Then in the middle of my meal the lady from the register approached holding go a piece of paper with a slice of turkey and sausage. The Dr. Smith Sample Plate was born! I was fortunate to meet the family members who run the place. They were as advertised. The nicest, friendliest and genuine people who have been serving the community in ways other than providing good food. I found out they have been having family reunions since 1904! Incredible place with incredible people serving incredible food. Met a lady in the parking lot who drives 30 miles for their BBQ. That tells you something. I can't wait to go back. read more

Just ok. Ribs were kinda dry. Chicken was awesome. Potato salad was just....strange. Tastes like it has a ton of sugar in it. I've never had potato salad like that. My sausage was delicious. So were my green beans and the slaw and the home-made cake. The whole family was there working the kitchen. A self-service kind of a place, the lady with my plate insisted on carrying it to my seat. A down-home place. Many of the customers knew each other and the staff. The service is phenomenal, you are greeted upon entry and everyone is very friendly. I ordered a Two Meat Plate and chose brisket and ribs. The ribs are tender and crispy, you barely need the sauce. The sauce is a sweeter bbq sauce but I love it. The brisket was also tender and had great flavor. I chose the potato salad and slaw but next time I will try the greens. The other patrons and my coworkers raved about them. Also, the banana pudding was so delicious, definitely try it! The restroom was clean as was the restaurant. And the turkey. It is fresh and tender and makes a great sandwich or entree. At lunchtime, diners meet the spectrum of citizens who make up Victoria. The staff is all Mumphord family, and they get to know their regulars. We felt at home there. The decor is abundant and personal. Some may see it as clutter, but the Mumphord family has been very involved, often giving back to their community, and over the years they have collected all kinds of pictures, accolades and gifts, which they enjoy sharing with their customers. The parking isn't great, the outside doesn't look great, the inside has a bit of a garage sale feel to it, but the people working there are welcoming, helpful, friendly, and well qualified to be selling BBQ in Texas. I researched Mumford's Place before moving to Victoria a couple of weeks ago. My plan was to settle in, then order their five-meat combo plate to try everything. My cousin Rocc and I made the trip down from Hobby, and when we arrived at my Aunt Lita's, I was shocked to find half the restaurant already laid out on her stove! Grinning and talking smack as usual, she said, "Well, you know I had to feed you." She'd beat me to it, and I couldn't be happier. What an honor it was to experience some of the most celebrated barbecue in South Texas--this national treasure lives up to every bit of its reputation. I tasted ribs, brisket, sausage, green beans, and potato salad. Though they offer sauce, Texas barbecue rarely needs it--and Mumford's certainly doesn't. Each bite was packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and cooked to perfection. This food is so good, you could easily eat it every day, though gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins. What a great find in Victoria, Texas. I've had their food several times and I have to say that this is one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in Victoria. You'll drive up to building that looks like what you would expect in a Texas town, a quaint building with a lot of character. Walking in you'll think you've stumbled into someone's home. Inside you will find lots of knick knacks and personal decor collected from over the years. Go straight to the register and place your order and then grab a seat at one of the picnic style benches behind you. The food comes out quick and hot. This last time I got the two meat plate that included brisket and sausage, an ice cream scoop of potato salad, coleslaw, bread and all the fixins you need. It isn't cheap but it's decently priced for an out of towner like me. Next time I'd like to check out their turkey and one of their homemade desserts. Brisket I've had their lean and regular brisket. I'm a fan of their lean brisket, the bark has a deep smoky flavor that I love and the brisket was moist and delicious. I've had the regular brisket and it's good but not my jam. Sausage: One of my favorite offerings here. Tasty! Potato Salad: I'm not a fan of potato salad but I'll eat theirs, it's not too sweet like other mayo based versions Coleslaw: Pretty good and I enjoyed putting it together with the potato salad (don't ask me why, I just did and it tasted good) BBQ sauce: It's a bit too sweet for me I tend to like mine more vinegary but it went with the sausage well read more
