I visited the store Jan. 2 with my daughter. She was trying to get the value for an engagement ring that she has. Sadly, she was trying to get rid of the ring because the relationship ended. My daughter was persistent about going into the store because it's local. I told her that I prefer not to patronize any of the Lavdas family businesses. And guess what...they proved me right! This young woman goes into the store to sell a ring that is tied to hurt and disappointment and a man comes out who I'm 99% sure was the owner and yells across the store, "Did you get this from one of those mall stores?" My daughter was mortified and hurt all at the same time. And if she did get it from a mall store...So what! Does that make her less than ?! She replies with tears in her eyes, "No I didn't." He then says to her, "To get the best bang for your buck, you might want to sell it on eBay or something." This guy literally had the ring for not even 5 minutes. He gave no attention to the ring that he treated like a bubble gum machine ring. Needless to say they are the worse. Horrific customer service. And I had heard this from many people. Although, it's been said if you're dropping thousands you'll receive top notch service! Hum....Well this is why I buy from Diamond Jim's in Madison Heights! Great family business. You can come into the store to shop with your pj's on and they treat everyone the same! Which is why they will continue to get my business. When I reviewed the document, it was almost entirely inaccurate! When I took it in to question it, their only solution was to CHARGE ME for a new appraisal. I had 2 small 18K gold metals to sell and 1 small 14k gold cross (they offered me $100.00), so next I visited Herman's Creations and ask for a quote on the same jewelry. I didn't tell them I was previously at Lavda's. $228.00 was there offer, and I accepted. I told them that Lavda's was under offering me by $128.00! The sad part is, is that we have been buying our jewelry from Lavda's for over 3 years now and I trusted them (I guess I was wrong to put my trust in Nic Lavda and his staff). I would not recommend Lavdas to anyone and would give them zero stars if it was possible. We've had nothing but problems with my ring since the day my fiance' proposed and Nick has been nothing short of difficult to work with. For starters, one of the prongs broke off of my ring within the first 2 hours of wearing it. We were out of town and there was no way to get it fixed until we returned. No one wants to leave their ring in the box the day they get engaged, but I was forced to in order to ensure that the diamond didn't fall out. We took the ring back to Nick upon returning and he 'helped us out' by redoing the prong and building up the other three to ensure the diamond was secure. We also raised concerns at this this time that the stone wasn't centered within the halo setting. Nick assured us that he used a caliper to place the diamond and it was perfect. We were still not happy with the placement and took the ring to a very reputable local jeweler to have a look. To our surprise, they told us that there were PORES (actual holes which they showed us) in the prongs and this results from placing solder on top of existing solder. Nick failed to tell us that while he was building up the prongs (again, 'to help us out'), he was actually creating tiny pores. We also learned that Nick sold us a 1/2 carat halo setting for a 1 carat stone. For this reason, the diamond sits too high in the setting and therefore needs extra support on the prongs to keep it secure. Our new local jeweler told us this is similar to squeezing a size 8 foot in a size 6 shoe. We've brought these concerns to Nick and he's done nothing but deny our claims saying that he has to see the ring to believe it. He also went so far to say that 'jewelers will tell you anything to make a buck'. Looks like that's exactly what he was doing when he sold my fiance' a halo setting that was too small for the diamond. He also said there's not much difference between the halo needed for 1/2 carat diamond or a 3/4 carat diamond. Too bad he sold us a 1 carat diamond and there is a big difference! I'm now going on two weeks without my ring as the local jeweler fixes all of Nicks mistakes. Nick is nothing but difficult to work with and I'll never buy anything from this store again. Find another jeweler if you want to save yourself the hassle! read more

I've purchased items here before and never had this type of experience before. They buzzed me in and no one spoke to me and there was only one other customer. Then finally a very nonchalant man asks if I need help. Really? I told him my necklace needed checking because a diamond was sticking out. He checked said it's fine. I asked him to clean it. He took it to the back came back a minute later with the charm and necklace. Of course it wasn't clean. Then I heard the owner tell the customer he was with that he's had to work for everything he has instead of some people and then they all turned and looked at me after I'm assuming he focused on me when He said that. I brought my engagement ring here and had the bands done, also purchased my husbands ring and had his watch engraved all around the same time. The custom work they did on my ring was horrible, I can't believe that an artist would do work like this and say "I'm very happy with my work". When I had my husbands watch engraved it was engraved wrong and after a few weeks my husbands realized that he was allergic to the wedding band and could not wear it (they were no help at all). NOW 5 months later I had a diamond fall out and they said, "It does not fall under their diamond guarantee because it was from wear and tear". Give me a break! I could see with my bare eyes from the very beginning that the bands are uneven, very poor work. I can't believe I spent a bunch of money at this place. Like many other people have said, this plAce doesn't even deserve a star. Nick Lavda should feel ashamed and embarrassed to be running a business like this. My fiancé got my engagement ring from here and we've had nothing but problems with it. I've only had it for 3 months and it's already been in for repairs 4 times. Stones fall out left and right. One time I drove there to pick up the ring only to find out it wasn't ready when they said it would be. I left the store and drove all the way home (over 30 minutes) just for them to call and say it was ready the whole time it was just misplaced. I've had my ring appraised by two separated and reputable jewelers (niether of which had anything to gain by appraising the ring) who both said there were crooked stones in the halo and that they would trade it in as soon as possible. My fiancé called Nick and told him what they said and Nick said "come on in and trade it in for something, we want you to be happy." Then when we got there Nicks response was "I challenge whoever said that to you to call me and say that to my face! There is nothing wrong with this ring!" I came into the store with a serious concern and nick made the problem about himself. He's extremely unprofessional and once he has your money he doesn't care about you. I would do anything to never set foot in Lavdas again, but in order to keep my warranty valid I have to go every 4 months for a cleaning. And we all know I will need my warranty because the ring falls apart every time I move my hand. So a giant thank you to Nick lavda for making what is supposed to be the most special time in my life, a giant headache that makes me Sick to my stomach everytime I think about it! read more

I went to Lavadas Jewelers this morning to have a clasp replaced on my diamond necklace my husband bought me while we were in St Maarten for Christmas. I was informed by Dana that the price to replace the clasp would be $65 and it would take a week to have it fixed. When I hesitated, she said they could have it back Monday after 5pm would that be better. I said ok. I never thought it would cost $65 to just replace the clasp. After leaving it with Dana, I called my husband and he agreed with me that the price seemed unreasonable. I asked him to call Lavadas and let them know we would pick up my necklace and take it elsewhere. When he called up there he was informed that they could do the clasp for $48 and it would be completed today. To me this does not make sense, when I physically go into the jewelry store and am quote $65 and it will take a week and he calls on the phone and is told $48 and it would be done today? Absolutely, crazy. I told him this seems very shady to me tell them we will pick it up and take it elsewhere. But amazingly enough as I was calling around to the other jewelers that I know, which I should have taken it to the prices ranged anywhere from $30-$40 but could take anywhere from a day to two weeks. I missed a call from Dana, who left me a message saying my necklace was ready to be picked up, not even 45 minutes after I had dropped it off. Please do not get me wrong, Dana did seem like a very nice young girl but the business aspect of this company is completely shady and I would never recommend them to anyone. The only reason why I went there was because it was closer to our home. Never again.... read more

I wish i didnt have to give a star. My boyfriend purchased my engagement ring here. After i received it the main diamond was slightly crooked so we took it back and he tried to fix it but it was still slightly crooked so we again took it back finally he made it right then a week later a stone fell off so we had to take it back again. I swear the first month we bought this ring i had it for maybe a week. Now a year and a half later we took this ring back to see if he would buy it back because we were doing really bad and needed money. My boyfriend waited in the store for about 20 mins untill nik comes out to pass him up for some kids who just walked in because they had like 16,0000 dollars worth of jewlery. The lady that works there had to pull nik aside just to get him to come over and assist him. He then said i cant buy this. We payed 2,600 for it and it retailed for 3,900 and he wouldnt give us a penny. Also our paper work said we had a 18k gold band and it was actully 14k. After all we have been through and this is what he does. He said go home and sell it on ebay. We also found out the diamond quality was not right. He basically sold us a cheap diamond and even on paper it was wrong. I had it appraised somewhere else and they said this is not the right at all. I wish I had money because I would have gotten a lawyer. Nik is a money hungy man who wont give you the time of day unless your speding a lot of money and to nik 2,600 is nothing. I went to a couple of jewlerys and everyone sad of lavdas riped you off. i have 2 kids and cant make ends meet. I was really hoping for even 900 dollars. he wouldnt offer us nothing. I have lots of family who went here since im italian i have a big family. He lost a good amount of people. Dont go here please i dont want to see anyone else get riped off!
