I've never wanted to give a 6 star review before. But the Diamond Vault of Troy deserves it. They offer customer service like no other retail establishment I have ever experienced. Here's what happened, in a nut shell: my son found a jar filled with old costume jewelry when we were renovating our cottage. He had been begging me to take him to a store that buys gold to see if he could get some money for it, but I knew it was all crappy costume jewelry. Finally, I agreed and added a couple of very small pieces of my old gold jewelry so he would get some money for something. My son found The Diamond Vault via Google. I'd never heard of it. Well, we went in and they treat us like royalty. (ugh, I wished I'd dressed nicer!) The friendly woman (Laura?) took her time going through each piece, explaining the machine, etc...and concluded with less than 1 g of gold. She took her note and the little pieces... and Mr. Timothy Mayer came back in with a little stack of bills. He praised my son for his instincts and gave him cash including valuable $2 bills to keep as an investment. He also gave him a wonderful lecture on investing (as well as giving to others, eg. donating his costume jewelry to a charitable thrift shop) and showed him around, including silver & gold coins and rare $500 and $1000 bills... It was riveting and my son soaked it all in. (I think he's going to start collecting coins and investing in metals!) The staff at The Diamond Vault of Troy has at least 2 more lifelong customers and advocates! They are nothing short of remarkable. read more

Smell of curry, was disgusting during lunch hours. I am not sure was there any Indian or not but regardless the stew/curry smell in a close place was not pleasant. Customer service was ok but the a place like diamond store should be welcoming. I was like waiting to get out of it quickly due to ugly food smell. Management should maintain a standard environment and ask their team to eat out or only bring non smelly food in the store. read more

I called them in Oct 2025, and they said they were paying about $20-21 for common date, circulated Morgan silver dollars, whereas the half dozen other stores I called in the area--including Cranbrook Coin & Jewelry just up Big Beaver--all said they were paying between $27 and $32 for the same thing. read more

Bought our wedding rings and bands here several years ago. Service is top notch and everyone is super friendly. They're always willing to clean rings in the machine and fix small issues at no charge. If you are going to buy a diamond, this is the ONLY place you should do it! Period! You are welcome to SHOP the malls, high-end boutiques and retail stores, but when you decide that you are interested in actual HIGH quality diamonds, real personal service, and unmatched buying power for your dollar, Diamond Vault of Troy should be the only place you BUY! I will only buy wholesale diamonds going forward, and will never shop retail again. I will probably never buy from anywhere except DV of Troy again, either! I shopped about 50-60 different stores all over Michigan (Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Traverse City) and Texas (Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Houston). I was looking for "engagement rings", "loose stones", "wholesale diamonds" and "brilliant diamonds". Everywhere I went, almost no one wanted to deal with me (chalk it up to bad retail experiences). If they did talk to me, they just wanted to push whatever their name brand (read: high commission) "hot" deal was onto me. I got a lot of "I can't believe you aren't going to buy this ring today" outrage from High Pressure Sales People! Some places even told me that "no one bothered to buy loose stones anymore". Anything to make a sale, I guess. However, I love my girlfriend (read: future wife!)... she deserved more than that! I wanted to find a jeweler who was interested in getting to know me... someone to help guide me... someone interested in what I was trying to say with my stone... someone who wanted to know about my fiancée so he could help me make the right impression... someone who wanted my business for the rest of our lives together! Then I found DV of Troy on Yelp! I met with Tim Mayer at least 8-10 over a course of about 6 months to ensure I knew everything I possibly could, that I was comfortable with my decision, and the diamond I chose was the exact right one for ME! And let me tell you... that is a pretty HUGE order when it comes to my OCD! I will say that I'm probably the most difficult person in the world to sell a diamond to. I am very specific about what I like, and I know just enough to be dangerous (or at least a real pain). I had to know about the 4 C's: cut, caret, clarity and caret weight. I had to know about the 5th C: cutlet (thanks Internet). I had to know about Shape, Girdle, Polish... Symmetry, Table, Depth... Diameter and whatever Fluorescence is... Certifications: GIA vs. AGS vs. EGL vs. ISI... Who is GEMEX, and why do I need to know... and why do I even care about FIRE!! After spending ENDLESS hours on the Internet to find the "perfect diamond", all I could say was that I was confused (and was certainly not going to buy a diamond on the Internet!). Tim's attitude of No Pressure and relaxed attitude made the whole experience wonderful! He took the time (several times) to understand my needs and delivered well beyond my expectations. My engagement ring is breathtaking and spectacular. (You really ought to see this thing!!) And you know what the best thing is? They design custom jewelry. As in, my (now) fiancée had a secret Pinterest page. It's covered with all of the engagement rings, wedding rings and diamonds that she thought were beautiful. (Guess who didn't even know this page existed? You might want to check with your girl too!). So Tim includes his business card... my fiancée can go onto the Diamond Vault of Troy's website, get some ideas, and then share her page with TIM! After choosing the setting I was provided with In depth knowledge of what to look for in diamonds. The sales staff was very low pressure and I was able to get the perfect diamond for the setting even though they did not initially have the exact stone at the store. Very positive experience. I decided on a secret engagement, involving no one other than myself in the ring design process. I entered The DV of T knowing literally nothing about stones, settings, cuts, etc. Even without an appointment, I was given their full attention at the end of the business day. They were very sensitive to the time constraints of their customers -- moreso than their own schedules. Over the course of 4-5 weeks I made several visits and was able to design my own engagement ring. I was not pressured into anything, and paid no money until the final product was in my hands. Every step of the way Randy (store CEO) was able to meet with me, email with me, call me, and was extremely patient. There were a multitude of times where he even suggested less expensive options (e.g. white gold vs. platinum). I was always treated with respect and my correspondence was met with prompt responses. Randy, in particular, makes the store shine. His well seasoned and nonthreatening demeanor made an absolute novice, myself, completely at home with the ring-making process. A process that is inherently awkward and uncomfortable. If you have the opportunity to work with a particular person, I recommend him. AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!!!!! When I think of engagement ring shopping as a man, it is intimidating. It took me quite a bit of courage to even step foot into a jewelry store. When my fiancé and I would look, we always felt hustled and I walked away with a bad gut feeling. I searched the web for other local businesses, and came across Diamond Vault of Troy. When I arrived, I was greeted by Peter-John Parisis. I was impressed right off the bat because I was offered a coffee with Baileys (and it was quite delicious at 9am). I found out that Peter-John was a minister and extremely friendly. He stepped me through the diamond picking process with ease. Explaining the 4 Cs and how to get the best diamond with my budget. I had a very strict and tight budget, and not once was pushed to go above and beyond. We searched for a diamond and I was very impressed with what we found. The carat, color, cut, and clarity were extremely good for the price allocated for the diamond. After picking out the diamond, we decided to design the ring custom to fit the diamond perfect. I sat down and discussed what I noticed my fiancé liked. After a couple days, I received a CAD drawing, and was asked to approve the design. I thought it was perfect, and exactly what I was looking for. A couple days after that, I received a call that the ring was ready to be picked up. This is the point where I got nervous. This was the biggest purchase of my life. It not only was because of price, but because it is a lifetime commitment, and something that will change my life. I had butterflies (manly butterflies that is), and went to receive my ring. Because Peter John was GIA certified and a Graduated Gemologist, I received the certified appraisal from the same location. I was going on a trip to California, and planned on transporting the ring in the box, and propose sometime out there. Peter John gave me some tips to make that moment perfect. Instead of carrying a bulky box in my pocket, I received a pouch to carry the ring in. I hid the box in a thick sock in my suitcase. (After the fact, she admitted to feeling my pockets when we met each other to see if I had a ring, but didn't feel anything). I'm from California and was in town to visit my parents--and of course to take advantage of the state sales tax to look for an engagement ring. Tim took my requirements and showed me several different diamonds. No pressure at all. Though I did find one that I really liked, based on comparisons and my understanding of the 4C's, I wasn't ready to commit just yet. I told Tim I'd look elsewhere first before making my decision. He surprised me by saying he'd put a hold on it for me, and he even encouraged me to do my research. The day before coming to Diamond Vault, I had gone to the Jewelry Factory and considered another stone. When I told the clerk there that was would shop around, he told me that the diamond would be gone the next day because of "how fast their turnover was." Looking back, I was so glad I didn't buy from them on the spot. For the next few days, I searched about eight different jewelry shops including Kay's, Jared's, and Zale's just to look at loose diamonds. I asked to see every diamond under a microscope as well. I spent another 40 min with Tim taking a look at other diamonds (I'm a very careful buyer) just to make sure that the one I had on hold really was the One. It was. After making my decision, I realized that I didn't have insurance to cover the ring. Randy sat down with me, and was on the phone with their jewelry insurance company to set up a plan for me. Two days later, I went to pick up and pay for the ring. I made the mistake of not informing my bank that I was making a large purchase with my credit card. The bank put a hold on my card. Instead of leaving me on my own, a clerk spent forty minutes helping me get things sorted out with my bank. I'm really pleasantly surprised to find that businesses like this one still exist. WOW! The service was so personal and real, I felt very comfortable having them make my fiance's ring. Tim and Randy were so extremely helpful and genuinely cared about my decisions. My Fiance has an allergic reaction to certain metals. Most places I shopped at tried to tell me that it was probably just soap causing the reaction or believed me and said 'you'll have to go w/ platinum'. I then found The Diamond Vault on yelp and believe me, all the comments on here from others is true. I spoke w/ Tim the owner, and he was very knowledgable of metal allergies. He ordered a nickle free white gold alloy from Europe for me and not only is the ring beautiful and allergy free, it also was less expensive than most other places I visited. Wow - great experience. I had a hard time believing all the 5 star reviews for a jewelry store, and for some reason thought this place was somehow linked to a chain type store...Boy was I wrong. Came in to get a few items appraised and some watch batteries replaced. They did it faster and cheaper than anyone else, and provided total transparency to every step of the process.
