I met and schmoozed with owner Pete Wagener, who named the store after his mother, and Pete is a great guy.

"Wow," is all I can say. I thought my guitar sounded great before I brought it to Artifact. I…read morebrought in three guitars in need of differing degrees of TLC. When I got them back, all three sounded immediately better. The biggest change I noticed was in a Takamine P2 that Is my primary acoustic. Not only did the work get done flawlessly, but they took the time to explain why it was better. In addition to the Takamine, they worked on my father's vintage Martin and took great care of it. I would trust Artifact Guitars with any instrument. It's clear they can make a basic guitar great and a pro guitar amazing. In addition, I live 60 miles from the shop. Jes personally drove my guitars out to my home to save me the trip of driving down there a second time. Great service. Great results. A+.

Jes did an amazing job fixing a headstock no other luthier would touch, and also gave it a nice fret job and installed an aftermarket bridge. They made me pay in advance and then proceeded to take several months to complete it, I had to buy the bridge myself and deliver it to them, and then told me they were unable to figure out how to wire it up. So after hundreds of dollars and many weeks I ended up picking up a bass that STILL didn't work. I felt they should have gone the extra mile for me and researched it to make me happy, because a 5 minute Google search gave me the wiring and I just did it myself. They do nice work and Jes was friendly but I felt like I was not a priority.

Confused, and slightly pissed off: A week before my wedding…read moreI called to ask about rentals, the person I spoke with on the phone was confident in everything I was interested in, and quoted $550 for the rental. He also mentioned that this specific store was well stocked and I didn't need to make a reservation, so I didn't. A week later (two days before my wedding), I go in person to make the actual rental. Here is where things get interesting. They told me they don't usually rent out wireless mics, I needed two of them, they also didn't have the mixing board I wanted (Model-12 with SD Card recording capabilities). Fortunately they were able to pivot and rented me some new gear that worked well, but they charged $700 for the rental, so whoever I spoke with on the phone either wasn't well informed, or didn't calculate the rental properly, either way, the additional $150 ($300 with the deposits) didn't result in customer happiness. They assured me that all of the gear was checked ahead of time, and everything was ready to be used. They also said they would throw in a couple extra XLRs Incase anything wasn't correct. This was not the case. I should have counted the XLRs because I thought I was renting 10, and there were only 9 in the package, and to top it off, 3 of them didn't work. The band had to literally drive into town and buy 4 additional XLRs. This is unacceptable, and one of the main reasons why I'm writing this review. Not to get petty, but the batteries were also dead in the wireless lav mic, and one of the four mic stands (see photo) was broken. Again, Unacceptable. Other than that, the sound was great, and the wedding was incredible. Okay, after the wedding, I go back and drop off the rental. I explain all of these issues and they say "oh sorry about that", then I ask "what can be done to protect the customer from this happening? You have rental insurance to protect the gear, but is there not any security or compensation to the customer if the gear doesn't work?" ... then they took off an additional $50, which is fine and all, but doesn't even cover the additional expenses of the 4 new XLRs or batteries I had to buy. Kind of a long story, but all in all, seems like there are some systemic things that need to be worked on, specifically in the gear checking, and customer guarantee areas.

I started at the Rock 201 level, (level 3 out of 6) and ended in Houseband, a performance based group who played at Summerfest in Milwaukee, the Mall of America, and the Xcel Energy Center at a Wild game. I've loved all of my instructors and their various teaching styles. They offer every aspect of a rock band, including all the instruments mentioned above. Kids are also able to pick from a variety of artists and genres to cover as a band, and make new friends and learn the importance of teamwork. I had the privilege of learning here, and went from fumbling through vocals on "Eye of the Tiger", to absolutely mastering every instrument on "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and teaching a group of younger students how to play it as a band. I've not only improved musically, but also as a person. I've learned the importance of teamwork, respect, hard work, and consistency. I've become a better public speaker and more of an extrovert, but also gained more self awareness, and I firmly believe that my emotional development is easily owed to this program. If your child (or you!) stick with this program, it will definitely be worth your while! Even though the school is aimed at students, adults are also able to receive lessons and there is an adult band! Any level of music education and experience is welcome here, and will be greeted with open arms.
