Dr. Hartstein is a good doctor. Last year, I visited him because my eyelids were swollen, and he…read morehelped improve my condition. He is very professional. However, I have consistently had issues with the administration. During a follow-up visit for my eyelid problem, the second appointment two weeks after the first visit, I was told I didn't have to pay anything. But after I got home, they called me and said they had made a mistake and that I needed to come back and pay. I paid online eventually. Last month, I received a message from his office inviting me for a 'routine eye appt'. I decided to go, planning to use my annual eye exam benefit through my vision insurance because my experience with Dr. Hartstein is good, and the office has a lot of options for glasses. When I arrived, I told them I wanted an annual eye exam. After the exam, they charged me $145, even though I had said the annual exam should be covered with my VSP benefit. They didn't budge. I paid, confused, and then asked if I could use my insurance to purchase sunglasses. They refused and said the doctor hadn't given me a prescription. I became very confused, as this had never happened before. After I got home, I discussed it with my husband and called them back to ask for the billing code. They told me it was for an 'office visit'. They didn't use my VSP insurance because they considered a 'routine eye appt' to be a follow-up related to my eyelid issue from last year, not an 'annual eye exam' as a vision exam. But NO ONE told me that both in the waiting room and during the exam. No one told me that I would be charged with other insurance, not VSP, before they started the exam. So yes, I've had two confusing experiences dealing with the administration. I won't be returning. That said, the doctor himself is good. Just be careful when visiting. Make sure you clearly confirm administrative details and your insurance coverage beforehand.

On the car ride to her post surgery exam, I suddenly realized that my mother was a PIRATE. With one…read moreblack patch over her left eye, she could have been an extra for the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Shiver me timbers... Yesterday, she had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Tae S. Kim at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. For an older woman, it has to be traumatic. But, it had to be done since she was losing vision and that alone could be very daunting. However, she confessed that the experience wasn't that bad, thanks to Dr. Kim. That's what I realized as well, having seen patients waiting for this professional, as their turn came about. I guess, eye surgery is somewhat common as a person gets older. The staff is very kind and patient, as I see one of the assistants provide detailed instructions to my mother on the medication that she has to endure for the next month or so. As I watch another receptionist answer the phone, I can tell that they're very calm and knowledgeable in the process. A couple years back, I had an eye infection and I remember Dr. Kim's kindness and thorough explanation of the eye drops and care that was needed for me to heal. I know many of us complain about the lack of thoroughness when it comes to professionals these days. A lot of them are about making that quick buck and to a certain extent, I can't blame them. It's still a business right? However, whenever I see a medical staff showing generosity in the time spent with you and the paperwork process, I get a good feeling knowing that they're probably doing the same with others. My lone issue has to be the form of payment needed for the services at Cerritos Eye Medical Center. Cash and check only? For those who don't have the money now, how does one get treatment? I know medical insurance and Medi-Cal are accepted here, but in this day and age - NO CREDIT CARDS? I'm kinda dumbfounded. Anyways, I would come back to see Dr. Kim again, since this place seems somewhat hidden to the general population. I see old people (aka seniors citizens only). Could be the hidden gem of eye care. Since, it's right next to my primary care physician - Dr. Pak @ First Medical Center, it's a no brainer for me.

Dr. Patel is very skilled at visual risk management, which is defined as identifying an issue and providing treatment options/referrals before it becomes serious. For me, she identified the start of cataracts and implemented treatment protocol before I knew the issue existed and complex eye surgery would have be required. Dr. Patel makes complex digital images of each eye and uses a new enhanced software tool to analyze in real time the digital images of the eye and identify developing issues such as glaucoma or cataracts before they become apparent to the patient. Early detection saves the patient complex eye surgery and recovery time as well as the associated higher expense. I am an engineer by training and identifying risk items begore they become serious issues is important to me.

They all have a terrible attitude and treat you as though you're a pest. They don't even bother to make eye contact with you. Also, good luck ever trying to get a hold of them at their 714 and general 888 phone numbers. You LITERALLY call for 2 weeks straight daily at least 12 times every single day to connect with someone. And then it's just a foreign call center that relays your msgs to the respective Acuity office, which never gets back to you. I have to come here in person on my way to work to ask a simple question about scheduling. Finally, the wait times are atrocious! You will always have to wait a minimum of 1.5 hours to be seen. And that is WITH an appointment. So bring your iPad or homework because you'll be sitting and waiting at least 90 minutes to be seen.

Experienced for cataract surgery. I almost lost my patience this afternoon due to the long long waiting time. However all the staff were so friendly and also, my hubby was so patient w me, I was able to wait about 3 hours. Dr. Renner was so attentive, my hubby asked many questions about cataract surgery, reasons, any other methods instead of surgery, and etc.....she answered us in details. Thank you. Dr. Renner! Thank God! My eye status was mild and not much progressed after 9 months. We were finally relaxed after she told us we can check every 6 months and I don't need the surgery. The medical building is located on the Walker and LA Palma street. Very easy to find the 4 story building, plenty of parking lots. Hopefully I won't wait too long for next appointment. To be honest, I got burned out after eye checkup blink, stay open wide, so many times in a row.
