I have never been so humiliated in my life! I am beyond angry! I go in and right from the start I should have known treatment wouldn't go well. When I checked in and told them the VA sent me the nurse at the admissions window started glaring at me and was speaking to me rudely. I finally get in and get out in a bed by the wall in the hallway outside the nurses station. The nurse Andy was not very attentive and after he put in the IV and took my blood and urine sample I didn't see him again until I got his attention and asked about my results. At that point he said he hadn't looked at them yet, he was busy. Ok I get that so I try to be nice because my daughter is. Nurse and I know that things aren't always easy on them. I just laid on the bed on the bed and waited. The Dr. or should I say the PA Alexander Overby had talked to me right after Andy put the IV in, and when I talked to him I told him my concerns. I was shaking really bad and I felt lightheaded and a little dizzy and felt like I was a little drunk. (Hadn't been drinking) The VA was concerned it could be my blood sugars as I have been diagnosed with diabetes recently. I was unsure if it was that or I was having a panic attack as they present the same and I have both conditions. I also showed the PA my swollen legs and feet. All he said was that it looked like I have water retention and it could be from a psychiatric drug, I then told him I am on one. He told me he ordered the tests and after he gets them back he would let me know what happens next. Well I he never came back, the nurse Andy did. He just came to me undid my IV and told me I was diagnosed with Methamphetamine use and that I could go and handed me the discharge papers. I was shocked! I tried to tell him that they didn't even ask what medications I was taking and if he had he would know I take 60mg of adderall every day as prescribed by the Dr. All he said well that can cause the same symptoms too. I didn't know what to say, then I said well can you call my husband to pick me up? My phone is dead. His response was, "The exit is that way" I get back to the front and ask the ladies at the front desk if they could call my husband and the nurse sneered at me and asked why I couldn't use the charging station? The station was clearly in between people. All of this has me fuming and forget about the lack of privacy Andy told me in a crowded hallway that basically I'm a meth abuser! read more

Staff sucks went for consoltation and dr had no clue about anything that was wrong w me. Dr connie has no bedside manners and is rather a dick, he didnt even introduce himself cuz to me he looked like another rn coming in. He dont read charts before hand and expect patients to wanna talk and trust him. i have worked here faithfully for 4 months in the lawrence pulmonary specialists clinic i will never ever apply recommend or work there ever again! my boss trish flummerfelt and brandon fired me 5 min before i clocked out, for not meeting timeline requirements. first of all i have text messages and messages asking my boss trish flummerfelt for training. never got it! she would leave me on read wouldn't respond, she would racially profile me and only speak to the same color she was! i felt unsafe around her and my other boss brandon as well. they both have poor communication and didn't hear me out when i needed them ! all the providers i was working for complimented me on a daily so me getting fired was absolutely shocking !!!! i have worked my butt off and i was not properly trained my "bosses" never sat down with me and actually gave me or spoken to me about proper training they fired me on my 110th day but said it was my 120th day and never gave me any paper work or anything in writing stating i was being let go. trish flummerfelt ran to my desk and verbally abused me saying she would call security on me after i tried to get my things! i almost called the police because of how i was being treated! trish flummerfelt and brandon are the worst bosses i have ever had very unprofessional and unkind! trish flummerfelt did not communicate or make me feel comfortable to appproach her for proper training or work needs. my name is adrianna zuniga read more

Came to ER for arm and chest pains and have been waiting for 6 hours. Watched one frail woman leave because she hadn't been seen. Watched another woman have a seizure in the waiting room while waiting. Another guy went through FIVE air tanks while waiting for a room. This place is completely unorganized. Every last patient has had an EKG, an xray and blood work like it's the Tuesday special. Literally watch each nurse come out and get them while saying it. Watching other people growing tired of waiting and leaving. LMH is a failure. Cannot rate 0 stars or I would. read more

They lack good customer service policies. They would rather transfer your call to someone else or redirect you to use their website instead of actually working to find an appropriate solution. This has happened on numerous occasions while I have been trying to complete a PT regimen to satisfy my insurance requirements. Very frustrating, especially when the last time they told me that to insure the correct information was sent to my doctor office I would have to physically come in to request that info personally. Are you serious?! Wow! Is the bar really set that low? This place is fine in a pinch, but save yourself the trouble and go up the road to KU Med where they know how to really provide a service to the community. read more

There are certain things in the world, once witnessed, that tend to follow and haunt you for the rest of your life. Whether it be witnessing abuse or being the victim of it, watching someone pass away, watching someone be tortured by being refused food and water, and/or being forced to commit heinous actions against individuals who had their rights wrongfully denied "for their own safety...." All of these things I witnessed, or was forced to be party to, during the time I spent both working for and as a patron of Lawrence Memorial Hospital Health. Every night was full to the brim with abuses of power, negligence, torture, and violence. The hospital would claim it is due to the nature of a crisis unit within any hospital that these things occur and are understandable, but I will never hesitate to argue otherwise. Most of the illegalities I witnessed within LMHH were committed by the staff against their patients. Overworked, undervalued nurses and doctors would take out their frustration on the most vulnerable of the patients in the entire hospital, those who came during a crisis such as being suicidal. Under-staffing for the sake of profiteering led to lack of oversight, with RN's issuing orders only a doctor could make and seeking the signature of a doctor after an otherwise illegal procedure had occurred. To make matters worse all of this has been reported, even to local news stations and affiliated journalists, but no one cares. I hope that one day all involved get brought to justice. Sadly, it will all most likely continue to be swept under the rug and called standard operating procedure. The community they claim to serve deserve justice and fair treatment in their greatest time of need, not the abuse and torture they are subjected to. read more

Do NOT go to Lawrence Memorial Hospital if you can make it to a KC hospital, such as, K.U. Med! (Read to the end, or just skip to "The Worst Detail:") *BLATANT BREACH OF PATIENT RIGHTS AND INCOMPETENCE I fainted and fell, hitting my head on the way down. My friend drove me to the hospital, as I was dizzy and bleeding from the top of my head. We entered the Emergency Department. The beginning was pretty typical. They took my vitals and a bare bones case history. I reported, I hadn't eaten all day and I was out in the 90 degree, hot and humid weather. I reported, I have a history of heat sensitivity and that I had experienced fainting from heat exhaustion a few times throughout my life. I admitted to being careless. I was taken to my designated room. Three or four people entered my room to hook me up and what not. Two nurses, one on each side of me, helped put my gown on. One of them asked in a nonchalant manner, "Oh, did you hit your head", as my hair was matted in blood and my facial expression would read to most people scared and concerned. I reported to her then, I was in the heat and hadn't eaten and I fainted. The nurse said, we should check your blood sugar and went to grab a needle. But, I knew WHY I fainted and I knew my blood sugar was low. I understood why she wanted to take this measure either way, but as she grabbed my hand I said, no, I don't want my blood sugar taken. I would just like my wound treated. SHE SQUEEZED MY HAND AND SAID, "NO! YOU NEED THIS!" I paused, in surprise, and said, do I have a choice!? She let go of my hand, pushing it away at the same time, turned around quickly and walked away to return the needle. She didn't respond to my question. She didn't say anything.. I could hear. But, it was clear from her body language that she was not only in disagreement with me, but angry! She quickly left the room, I assume, to avoid any further escalation of the issue. The other nurse was very patient and calming. She asked me if I didn't like needles which I stated yes (as in I don't). That's not even true. I'm not scared of needles; although, I felt it was necessary to say; because, I was shocked and nervous and I didn't want them poking me for a reason I knew was moot. It's my body. I live in it. I knew what happened. Ya know.. The E.R. doctor entered shortly after. He built nice rapport with me. He seemed to ask the right questions, he examined my laceration and gave the expected recommendations. He order the staples (3). No concern regarding concussion on his end or mine. They gave me a couple Tylenol directly before the staples were put in. My friend had to ask for an ice pack and was sweet enough to be the only one to bother wiping the dry blood off my face. That was it for that day. I went home. The worst detail: I woke up the next morning, to find my pillow stained with blood and some other bio fluid that leaked from my head. Red and pink, the stain had the diameter of about a CD. I went to the bathroom to inspect it and found another laceration.. just about an inch from the one they had stapled. They never mentioned any other cut... I began to worry they completely missed it, but I was optimistic that it may have not been deep enough or for whatever reason the cuts weren't healing as expected. What do I know, ya know.?.? My experience was already bad enough at LMH that I chose to go to First Med on 23rd St., where the nurse confirmed LMH HAD MISSED A LACERATION and I would need 3 staples for this one as well!!! *Imagine if my injury was worse. Imagine if I didn't understand my rights prior to entering that E.R. We have to strive for more accountability and greater competence. Peoples health and safety are on the line... Be careful everyone. I am currently pursuing all avenues to bring attention to and notice of the poor services I received. I'd appreciate any thoughts or recommendation. read more

This review is for the main campus location. I am labeled a drug seeker by the E.D. for opioid addiction. I have battled this addiction for over 20 years. In 2009 I was brutally assaulted and 2 days after said assault I finally went to the E.D. Now upon arrival I have acute facial swelling and the entire right side of my face is bruised. X-rays are ordered and I end up waiting 3+ hours for pain relief and anyone letting me know anything. At this point is when the doc himself enters with the X-rays in hand showing that the maxillary sinus, right orbital floor x2 and right zygomatic are fractured. Due to my addiction history they assumed I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. Fast forward to 2018. I end up being admitted due to a wrist fracture and infection. My wrist is swollen to the size of my forearm. The E.D. physician gives me I.V. pain medication and upon admission I was placed on a morphine drip. Out of nowhere the attending physician canceled the morphine drip and reduced the medication to 5mg hydrocodone. With my extensive history with opioid abuse my tolerance for them are high and when a verifiable medical cause constitutes them I require a higher dose to achieve medical relief of pain. I lasted 36 hours inpatient and ended up leaving AMA. They refused to treat the pain because of my addiction history. They wouldn't even prescribe antibiotics because I left AMA. After release I did some research and discovered that when dealing with people who have opioid addiction history medical providers are to take into account we have high tolerance to pain meds and require higher dosage or stronger medication to treat the pain. If my issues constitutes admission, obviously I wasn't drug seeking. LMH needs some serious restructuring when it comes to these concerns. read more

I have been to this hospital two times and it has been the most terrible experience both times. The nurses and RN have not been taught any sort of bed side manner and continue to wow me with their terrible attitudes and disregard for patients care. I am writing this review seething in the ER. Both times it has been for college student and they treated us as such- terribly. They all treated us like we were children who know nothing.
