This is the location of Holland Middle School, a part of the Council Rock School District. While my…read moreson is not a student here, he does play basketball as part of the Council Rock Basketball Association. The 7th grade teams play here on weekends. The facility is large enough for two full courts, and it is used morning 'til late afternoon on Sundays to fit in all the teams playing in this age bracket. Like most public schools in the lower grades, it lacks bleachers. Parents stand/sit around the edge of the courts to watch their kids play. The referees are local people trained in wearing black and white stripes and a whistle. They do an excellent job keeping the games under control, especially given the reality that most of these boys and not yet developed into skilled athletes. They don't call every foul or violation, because the game would never be completed it they did that. They let the game go and try to allow everyone to have fun while they compete. Thanks to all the volunteers who coach, keep time and score, and maintain the facilities for the rest of us. Kudos to the parents for coming out and letting their kids play the game without parental interference. It is good to see everyone again this season.

We have been a Chapin family for eleven years…read more My older daughter had attended Chapin since pre-k and graduated last year. She was more than ready to take on the challenges of secondary school. Her freshman year was an academic success! Throughout her years at Chapin, she has grown to be an independent, well-rounded individual. She's not afraid to email teachers about assignments, ask questions when she is uncertain about something discussed during class, or voice her opinion about anything. We owe those positive attributes to Chapin. My younger daughter has also attended Chapin since pre-k. She continues to amaze us with how much she's learned in just a short amount of time. We owe that to the excellent Chapin teachers who not only educate their students but also care about their growth and development. My husband and I are excited for my little one to experience all that Chapin has to offer in the coming years. Chapin is an extraordinary school. Children can take high school math in middle school or do science that they normally could not do. My son attends this school and he is a better, brighter person for it. He is naturally very intelligent and with "many hours" of focused homework, was an A, B student in the public school system. We chose the Lewis School because he is slightly back and white, very sensitive and emotional. For many years he was bullied for being different. And every year we saw this amazingly bright, happy, talkative kid become negative, sad and gloomy. He didn't want to go to school, refused homework and the most upsetting part as a parent was he lost faith in himself. Then we found The Lewis school and OUR not just his life changed. Just after a couple months of attending The Lewis School we saw amazing changes in him. He's happier, wants to go to school, talkative and can handle situations better. He doesn't fight us to go to school or to do his homework (Which he still hates btw). This is the "LEWIS GIFT". They provide children with the love and support our children need. They understand each child and provide proper clinical advice and aid to help them grow into young adults in a stress less environment. This school is not just for learning differences, although they are experts in many fields including dyslexia (which come in many levels similar to autism), but for all children who want to learn in a better accepting environment. They build confidence and leadership in a loving understanding way. Words cannot describe what the school has done for my child as well as many other children and families. As a parent you know your child's happiness is priceless. They need the chance to open up and focus on being the best they can be. A unique element of the CP curriculum is that it is a dual English/Spanish language program with some subjects being taught in English and others (like math) taught in Spanish. Although my kids are learning math in Spanish at school, they still placed very well in the Kumon assessment conducted in English. The CP academic program and teachers prepare students well in core subjects while also preparing to read and speak an additional language. Overall, I am pleased with CP. My kids are developing well and seem to be pretty happy there.

This incident was followed up with others, including a chokehold while being pushed down the slide and one where he was dragged around the playground. The school was unable to change this situation, with one of the incidents happening the very afternoon after we'd had meetings with his teacher and the school counselor. We were directly told that our son, "needed to stand up for himself more," and that the school, "had no disciplinary policy." We ultimately transferred him midyear to the Wilberforce School, which has been superb. We had other less serious disappointments in the school. The library sent home books that were often not even aimed at the right age. At scholastic day, after encouraging us to send money with our son to buy books, he was sold direct commercial advertising for ninjago (compete with figurine) and dc comics. The classroom experience that seemed most prominent to him was the time spent playing an iPad game with the refrain, "I am a kitty cat, meow." We thought well of his teacher but had evidence that the school lacked a coherent educational philosophy and certainly was unable to deal with violent incidents at lunch and on the playground.
