On a beautiful sunny Saturday in October we stopped at Layton's Chance to sit back and enjoy some wine. We each had a flight of six (Vintner's flight and Lazy Day flight) both delivering a couple of good options, but we enjoyed the Lazy Day flight more. The grounds are cute. We found some adirondack chairs to sit back and relax. There's a decent amount of outdoor seating but as it gets more crowded it's a good idea to bring your own chair as recommended on their website. There were no events on this day, but Layton's Chance does hold many events throughout the year that appear to be very popular. I noticed some of their upcoming holiday functions are already sold out. After finishing our flights it was on to the much raved about wine slushies. You can get small (12oz) or large (16 oz). It is with good reason the slushies are mentioned a lot in the reviews. Oh my they are delicious!!! The featured flavors on our visit were peach bellini and one made with the Freedom wine. Of course we capped off the visit with some bottles to take home and the mix to make the slushies. read more

We did a wine tour to learn the history of Laytons winery. Also included a free tasting. They have sweet, semi sweet and dry wines available. Nice giftshop area with seating available. We purchased three bottles of wine. Including their 100% watermelon. So refreshing for the summertime. Very nice place to visit and chill with some wine. read more

I loved this winery. The wines were very tasty. The people working there were very friendly, and kind to our son. They have lawn games and even a playground, which was a nice touch. Beautiful view of the vineyard vines - a very pleasant place to hang out. Very quiet on a Tuesday afternoon. I highly recommend this place. read more

A wonderful place to hang out whether you're drinking wine or not. Their wine is superb, especially the cool red and cool white. I am also partial to their margherita flavored wine. The service is always top notch and the atmosphere quiet and friendly. But they also have lots of things to do that are family oriented. One of my favorites is the grape stomping. Sometimes there are even pony rides or petting zoos for the kids. Excellent place to spend an afternoon. read more

The winery has a small house where you can buy your wine and some other decorative items for sale. There are a few small tables inside and some that wrap around the outside porch. Other than that they just have a yard outside with a play set. There wasn't much to see in terms of the set up, and I feel like they could set up some additional seating in the yard. I personally only like dryer wines and all of the options were pretty sweet. You can do two tastings for either inside or outside but outside is $12 vs $6 and you get two less wine tastes. I chose from the "dry" list but only one peaked my interest since they still were on the sweeter side. Personally the wine wasn't my taste but if you like sweeter wines this might be up your alley! read more

Beautiful location and a nice stop for a relaxing wine tasting. There is a patio to relax and enjoy although it can get noisy as it does attract families with children as there is a playground area on the lawn. We enjoyed the stroll along the nature trail and we saw a bald eagle flying overhead. The service was very friendly and welcoming. read more

We have been to this vineyard a couple of times in the last few years and the latest being a bridal shower. The wine is delicious, and the winery is beautiful. The friendliest "person" at these visits was the DOG! Do they only hire rude, unfriendly staff, who act as though it's a bother to do their job or interact with the public?! No explanation of their wines, or offering of a sample to help you along. Just rush you along to buy the wine! The nice things mentioned was marred by their bad attitudes, and really ruined a nice experience!! Niceness goes a long way!!! We will not be giving it another try!! read more

Coming from California, you are used to having an overwhelming amount of good to great wine literally in your backyard. Out on the East Coast, you have to work a little harder to find good local wine, but Layton's Chance is a good option for those interested in traditional East Coast style wine. The winery is a bit off the beaten path, but is a relatively quick diversion heading to Ocean City and beyond. The winery and building are very nice with a classic seaside look. You are offered a small or large tasting option depending on your preference and designated driver situation. I sampled a few local options including a Norton and watermelon wine that made it into my bag at the end of the visit. There are plenty of options for sweet and dry wine lovers including those great local styles that thrive in the coastal mid-Atlantic. This is not Napa. That said, if you enjoy wine, you will probably enjoy a stop here. It is perfect for buying some great bottles heading to your summer beach house or even just packing the cellar back in the District. Be careful with navigation leading you too far away; just follow the signs and enjoy the wine! read more

Found this place by chance due to too much traffic - pulled over from a road trip! This place is beautiful! My boyfriend and I got to enjoy about 8 of the sweet wines ("bo berry" was my favorite - Bought a bottle before we left!). Lots of parking available and such a beautiful area too. read more

Beautiful surroundings. Go when the weather is nice so you can sit outside and enjoy the ambiance. I attended a baby shower there and the only drawback was that the room we rented was a bit small for the 28 people in our party. Nice tasting room and good selections of wine. I'm not sure how this winery has gotten as many 5 star reviews as it has. The front porch, ambience and decorations are the only good thing about this winery. We have been to our fair share of wineries and this isn't worth the drive. The individual who served us was more concerned with chatting to friend(s) that came in than telling us anything about the wine. She dropped the bottle in front of us and didn't even give explanations for more than half of the 6 wines we tried. We also felt extremely rushed and she even dumped out the remainder of 2 of the tastings when we weren't finished. We spent less than 20 minutes on the tasting. As far as the wines quality - if you like SWEET wine, this is the place to go. We tried the "dry" tasting and every single one was still pretty coyingly sweet. Every wine we tasted was a blend of many different grape varietals. It also seemed like every wine had to have something else mixed in with it to make it drinkable - coffee, lemonade, etc. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Layton's Chance is my chance to get out of the city and go for a ride in the country. Once arriving at the winery, I enjoy the hospitality and great wines. I always bring a new friend with me and they fall in love with the winery just like I have. During my last visit, I purchased multiple bottles of the commemorative Harriet Tubman red wine. I'm not a red wine drinker jet but thoroughly enjoy it. I can't wait to give the bottle out as Xmas gifts. read more

ZOOOOMG! I loved my visit so much. My husband and I were on our way home from Ocean City and decided to stop in. We were greeted promptly, and were offered a seat at the bar for our tastings (we tasted everything!) We also took a tour of the facility which is beautiful, and was conducted by one of the very knowledgeable owners. We left with a few (ok, four if you must know) bottles to take home. We'll definitely be back, maybe to make a day of it. Minus one star simply because the indoor space was full of flies. That may have just been a consequence of summer, but yuck! read more

Pretty place to visit off the beaten path. The tasting room is beautiful, and they also have plenty of wine-related and non-wine-related gift items for sale. Additionally, they have a medium-sized meeting space available for a catered gathering. My first exposure to Layton's Chance was during one of these catered events a couple years ago. My most recent visit was with my parents. We enjoyed the farm and winery tour; Mrs. Chance was so friendly and clearly loves what she and her family do. Most of the winery's grapes are grown onsite. We were impressed by the live music events they had lined up throughout the summer. Nice playground outside the tasting room. Layton's Chance makes it clear that they really want people to come hang out there with family and friends. A nature trail is also available, although we did not check that out. Wines are okay and inexpensive. I am not a fan of their sweet wines and watermelon wine, but I do recommend giving them a try. Everyone has different tastes. I personally prefer the chambourcin and the Lazy Day Rose. read more

Visited from out of town yesterday. We arrived when they were open yet they had locked the doors. Eventually we got in and were told we could have a glass or bottle. In asking for a wine list, we were told something along the lines of I'm too tired to explain the wines. Someone else helped us after that but we were told we could only get something to go. (We had driven 2 hrs and they were still open for an hour so that made no sense). We got some wine as they had a good sale going on but in terms of feeling welcome, it was one of the worst winery experiences, COVID or not. read more

It was like we were annoying her by being there. There was s younger girl there. She was a little more social. Normally they like to chat with you. Tell you about their winery. The grapes. Only reason for 3 stars was because of the staff. I don't come here often but when I have the staff has always been friendly. That was not the case for 2 of the 3 I believe working there yesterday while I was there was a baby shower. Just not friendly at all and always seems bothered whenever my friend and I asked for some wine. Their slogan is "we work like crazy so you can be lazy". Well if working like crazy makes you cranky perhaps work behind the scenes. Love the wine though. read more

Fruit flies + frenzied staff (wedding party 50 minutes away) made this place more of a drive though than a wine tasting. Some good wines (watch out for the sweet ones!). Extremely nice owners, good setting, lots of room for improvement with the other staff. read more

Two words: wine slushies. Like many reviewers this was one of the things that drew us to this winery and they definitely did not disappoint. A tasting of each is included at the end of your wine tasting. Overall, friendly service and a unique wine selection: watermelon and lemonade offerings in the summer. The tasting is a great value for the money and the property is beautiful. It would be excellent to come here in the evening to watch the sunset on the porch. My only disappointment is that tours of the winery only seem to happen occasionally throughout the day. I've been to other wineries that offer tours about every 20 minutes or whenever guests arrive. Unfortunately, they are at set times here but it's really not too much trouble to call ahead and schedule you visit around a tour. read more
