Having braces is not something one usually looks forward to however this is not the case when receiving braces from Dr. Kaufman. From the moment you walk into his immaculately decorated sports themed office you are greeted by his friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home and comfortable. I always looked forward to my appointments because I loved getting hot chocolate, playing video games, reading, or admiring all the sports memorabilia. Dr K was extremely polite and we always had a nice conversation. The staff as well was extremely friendly, outgoing, and personable. Dr. K made my experience with braces beyond fantastic. I recently had a permanent retainer break that I've had since I got my braces off about 7 years ago. I no longer live near my old orthodontist, so I was afraid it'd be difficult to get an appointment with a new one. I called and explained my situation, and the office staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. When I expressed my concern that my teeth were already shifting, they got me an appointment as soon as possible. Today, November 7, 2017, after about 28 months of orthodontic care, I crossed the finish line and had my braces removed. All I can say is ..... AMAZING!! I started out with an overbite, front teeth gap/spaced, crooked, overlapped & shifted teeth; and now my teeth are all straightened, beautifully aligned and together!!! PERFECT!! As an adult, I always envisioned my teeth straight, with no front teeth gaps and overlapping teeth.. and Dr. Kaufman and his team of very knowledgeable orthodontics technicians, delivered and fulfilled my life long desire and dream of having a perfect smile and straightened teeth. I wanted to wait a little while before I wrote my review so that I could thoroughly think about the yearlong process I went through. Also, I wanted to get used to my "new" teeth and see some photos to decide how I felt about getting braces (particularly as an adult) and to let anyone who is thinking about it what the ups and downs are. I got my braces off about a month ago and I am currently wearing a removable, clear retainer for a while. (Side note; I can't tell you how many of my friends either spoke about themselves or their kids and said they wished they wore the retainer like they were supposed to. If you don't do this, getting braces will be a waste.) I have one caveat to my rating, let's just get that out of the way because it is very simple: I was told I would have to wear braces for 6 - 8 months and it ended up being 12 months. As an adult who didn't have severely misaligned teeth to begin with, this was a bit maddening. When people asked me how long Dr. Kaufman said it would take (6 -8 months), several people just laughed and said, "Oh it will be longer." True, true. This was one reason I wanted to wait on reviewing because I was pretty upset about that and I wanted to decide if I thought it was worth it. This weekend I was going through some old pictures and I happen to come across a close up photo of myself from about two years ago, I cracked up. When I originally got braces, most people who knew me well said "Really? Your teeth weren't even that bad." Uhm, wrong! Seeing that photo from two years ago and comparing it to my teeth now was amazing. I totally think it was worth it now. I have a crown I need to get redone, I should probably have my teeth whitened, but my teeth are all nice and lined up now. I feel much more confident about my smile, and who doesn't love to smile? Onto the specifics: Office: The location is primarily decorated for kids, which made me feel a little weird, but I get it. If you are going to take your child(ren) here, I imagine they will think it is pretty cool. There are music and sports memorabilia all over the place. There is a game console in one of the waiting rooms. The office is very clean and feels very up to date. It is located across from MCC, easy to get to. Price: I didn't cost compare, I went based on the recommendation of my dentist. I won't tell you how much it was because I imagine it is very specific to your teeth and needs, but I will tell you it was not cheap (not surprising). I only had my top teeth done and I had the "clear" braces put on. Being an adult, nothing was covered by my insurance but I was able to use my HSA account for most of the payment. Staff: All of the staff are very nice from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. I felt very confident in the clinical team staff. Liking the staff is really important to the experience, because you will be coming and going from the office so much and you really interact with them a ton more than you interact with Dr. Kaufman. I interacted with Amy at the front desk a lot, she's super nice. My favorite hygienist was Heather. Seriously though, all of the hygienists are nice. Dr. Kaufman is nice and trusted his professional judgment. Appointments: Oh my god, so many appointments. You make them well in advance. I was able to keep all of mine and I recommend that you try to as well because they run a tight ship there and if you lose your appointment who knows when you will get in again. The office is really busy. They can try to accommodate your schedule somewhat, which is definitely better than no accommodation at all. They have a program where you get a card swipe if you make it on time for your appointment. The more swipes you get, the more perks you get. Frankly I didn't care enough to participate (JUST FIX MY TEETH!), but the perks are good. Gift cards to places like Target, Walmart, Starbucks, iTunes, etc. There are always things you can take with you from the office (pens, pencils, as many special toothbrushes as you want, and my personal favorite: Advil), again, not something really important to me, but I can tell the office tries to make it as enjoyable as possible for kids and parents. I don't have kids, but I would definitely take them here if they needed braces. There is no sugar-coating braces, it sucks. I do think going to see Dr. Kaufman and his staff made the process less painful. Bottom line, yes I would recommend them. Plan for the process to take longer than they say. I do think it is worth it though. read more
