Easily the best meal, I've had in Paris/in my life by far. My friends and I arrived a little bit too late to get a table at the famed Le Chateaubriand, and a nearby shop keep must have seen our crestfallen faces because he came up to us and suggested that we try Le Dauphin next door. His words: "Same chef and food, only served a la carte. It's fucking ridiculous." He walked us over, talked to the bartender and was able to get us the last table in the house. Lucky us! Our server was very sweet and was able to explain certain parts of the menu when our French failed us. In the end, we just asked her to choose her favorites and surprise us. BEST IDEA EVER. Between my two friends and I, we sampled: Grilled Tandoori Octopus - This was so tender, that it almost tasted like fatty roasted pork aka....it was the best thing in the whole world. Mind blown. Haricot Verts with Poached Apricots - I'd rather have meat, but my mom would have killed us if we didn't eat at least one veggie on our trip. Wagyu Beef in Mustard Pomegranate Sauce Mushrooms with Creme Fraiche - The waitress described it as three different types of mushrooms that are only found in France. Other than that there is no way to describe it, but was one of the best things I've ever had in my life. Roasted Lamb Shank Squid Risotto Baba au Rhum Rose and Raspberry Sorbet Profiteroles with Hot Chocolate As an Elite Yelper and Community Manager, I can usually wax poetic about the food I have eaten for days and days but this meal has left me speechless. If I could use an image to describe my experience here, it would be just one giant drool mark. To quote Doctor Hibbard: "Diagnosis, Delicious." We totally ended up here by accident just walking around the area, and then when I opened up Yelp, I saw that this place has the same chef as Le Chateaubriand. I'm not really sure what other folks are saying about the attitude, because we received great service, but maybe we ordered a sufficient amount of food for this to not have been a problem? We got a bottle of red (we drank so much wine this whole trip I can't recall what it was) and ordered some food. Everything was delicious, but my favorite was the ceviche. I'm generally a ceviche fiend though, so maybe that's what it was. We also had some scallops in like a foamy sauce that was interesting and a spicy-ish fish soup that had some form of mayonnaise floating in it. I know, it sounds kinda weird (and I'm glad I asked what it was after I ate most of it), but it worked. I recommend it. read more

O M G We entered this place by happenstance but now I believe it was fate. The food is truly AMAZING and I love how everything is served tapas style so you can truly experience the best of what they have to offer. Le Chateaubriand is next door, and Le Dauphin is their wine bar featuring organic/biodynamic French vin and minimal cuisine, in a cool space. We visited for a luncheon experience that was very good all around. Each dish was unique without being too weird - thankfully, the pan-fried Dover sole was treated like a straightforward classic French dish. (I think it would have been soulless to mess with sole!) Service was accomplished, yet, very casual, in the 'no worries' style. Again, wine list features off-beat "natural" French wines. Every hip restaurant in Paris features these 'outsider' wines, whether you like these or not, is the question! Having dined at Le Chateaubriand the night before, I preferred the luncheon cuisine served at Le Dauphin. Plus, the interiors at the wine bar are much more interesting than the main restaurant set-up, that's for sure. Apparently, the wine bar space was designed by Rem Koolhaas and Clement Blanchet, with white marbled walls and ceilings, and anything else they could cover with it, they did! Wooden tables and chairs soften the hard space. Makes for a sleeker than sleek wine bar, and I imagine at night it gets really loud when jam packed! When we visited during the day, we were their first booking, so, we had the place mostly to ourselves, until around 1 p.m. when table after table filled it. During the day was a great time to visit, as I think max natural light shows off the interiors best. All in all, I would go back to this place, whereas I cannot say the same about Le Chateaubriand. read more

Le Dauphin is the perfect place to drop in last minute, park up at the bar, and enjoy exquisite french tapas. The velvety squid ink risotto, the pork belly with sinfully crispy skin, and the creamy mushroom velouté all rank up there as some of the best bites in Paris. Despite the marble and mirror décor (which is more 80s nightclub then intimate tapas bar) the atmosphere is surprisingly laid back. So if the line at le Châteaubriand next door is just too long, Le Dauphin is a sure bet for an interesting and satisfying meal, with enough oddball flavor combos (like white asparagus with pickled kumquats) to please the true foodies and enough hearty staples (like buratta or crispy pork belly) to please the rest. read more

This place is incredible. On our last night in Paris, we decided to try to get into Chateaubriand. Because they weren't able to seat us, we were shuttled over to this nearby restaurant which apparently serves the same food but a la carte rather than a tasting menu. The highlights of the multiple small plates we received were the turbot in a delicate broth and the liver. The wine we got from the Languedoc region was also very delicious. We were in the area and wanted to make a reservation for Chateaubriand. After finding out this place is the same owner we decided to give it a shot. I'm in love. The decor is minimalistic/industrial and the food is clean and delicious. The menu changes all the time according to what is fresh and in season. It's food prepared beautifully in a non-fussy way. It's modern, home-y food. We had all 3 courses. Our main was lamb - I personally don't mine the gaminess you sometimes get with lamb, but the hubs hates it. He took one bite and had to ask to make sure it was lamb. It was THAT amazing. Service was unpretentious and casual, which suits this place. The prices are amazing for the quality of food you're receiving. Def on the list of places to revisit on our next trip to the City of Lights. You need to check this place out if in Paris! read more

We had reservations for Le Dauphin's sister restaurant - Le Chateaubriand. We were running very early 6:30 and our reservation was for 9:30. They brought us over to Le Dauphin to wait. Same chef only smaller plates. This was our best meal in Paris. The wines were organic. We ate pigeon and it was great. The prawns were amazing. No rushing I typical Parisian fashion. Brilliant resounding meal. Entire front of restaurant is made of glass, so while dining you can amuse yourself as potential diners attempt to try and find the door. Sometimes they fail and the owner or waiter has to chase them down. Loved it. Tapas style. Chose here over Chateaubriand based on price. Glad I came here because it was eye raising good. You know how you see something for the first time and instantaneously you are attracted to it... (ie a specific color, object, or... person)? Well translate that into how your taste buds feel after each tapas plate is served, one after another. Instant true love with modern French cuisine, getting fat could not have been easier and more pleasureful. My favorites include the octopus, oh my god how are you able to incorporate earthy flavors with a whimsical addition of curry? Delicious. Squid ink risotto... We were scraping the bowl for every grain of that pitch black velvet. Oh gosh. Ceviche was fresh, restorative, and clean. Make a reservation lest you come first thing when it opens, and only then will you be seated at the bar. My single cheek could probably take up the seat alone, so try for a table for maximum comfort. Prices depend on how much you order, I recommend 3-5 dishes per person. Ok now the best for last... The dessert. Olive oil ice cream was soothing, creamy, and guzzling (yes GUZZLING) good. Sorry. Wanted to like this place. Really wanted to like this place. Guitarist from Sonic Youth was there. Line at Chateaubriand was forbidding. But not as forbidding as literally everything I put in my mouth at this place. 12 Euros for three cold pieces of asparugus with fennel powder all around the plate. Cold and bland and strange. Not in a good way. Steak was good. As in the meat was good. It was accompanied by a ridiculously over smoked eggplant puree which totally over powered the meat, but in a smokey way that made it tasty meatier that the steak and not in a good way. Just a bad combination. Tried the ceviche. The broth was seemingly flavored with just celery. A super cheap flavor and not one typically associated with ceviche. I don't mind going outside the box, I love it, but this was just not working. Then we got the fried anchovies which came with zero dipping sauce. Tempura without tempura sauce. Then we got a cheese plate that was just slices of osau-iraty. One of my favorites, but it was sliced up like I would get at an american grocery store with zero accompaniment besides stale bread. Not toasted, just dried out. The wine was good. An ajou. The food was absolutely awful and I asked the server to get me the best of what they had. Live and learn. read more

nice new trendy hotspot next to chateaubriand. reservations a must. the interiors are designed by famed architect rem koolhaas. the all marble + mirror interior (marble on the ceilings!) made for an acoustically vibrant, hopping space. a bar in the center of the space is surrounded by groups of seating, both high and low. the variety of seating and mirrors make it a busy and happening place. my friends bumped into other friends and spotted a number of known architects hanging out there. food: very good-- especially if you are sick of typical french brasseries or overpriced stuffy lengthy french meals. the tapas for sharing were refreshing in this case. highlights: risotto in squid ink, lomo, steak tartare, eggplant, foamy dessert with rhubarb. our meal of 9 dishes + 4 desserts + rose wine for 4 people was 150 euros. a very good price for what we got! the negative: our server messed up our dishes three or four times. it became rather comical by the end. we resolved it, but because the place is so busy, expect the waiters to be multitasking and not have their heads in the game. read more

I'd like to preface this review by saying that I've worked as a busser, hostess, and waiter for over 9 years. So, I'm always willing to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. However, I felt compelled to write a negative review (which I rarely do) so maybe management can get a sense of what's going on. I came there with a friend. We ordered several dishes and some drinks. Our server was nice to us...until my friend couldn't finish her squid ink risotto. The taste was just a bit strong for her. Mind you, we didn't send it back, nor did we complain. She just didn't finish her plate. When our waiter cleared our plates, and saw the half-eaten portion, he acted like we just said something nasty about his mother. His demeanor turned very cold, very fast. Seeing him get perturbed, I even said "The octopus was nice." Which was my plate, and it was. Nothing. After that it was all downhill. Normally we would have ordered dessert and coffee, but his treatment of us didn't exactly encourage us to stay there any longer. So, we left and went somewhere else for dessert. The other servers seemed pretty nice (we had a small interaction with a few of them). Maybe it was just what we ordered. Maybe it was just our server. But from our experience, the food was just "okay", and even if it had been amazing -- the poor service would still deter me from going again. read more

Our Airbnb hosts recommended this restaurant and we were lucky enough to snag a table right away on a Saturday night. We shared a bunch of small plates and really enjoyed everything - the food, the wine, the ambiance (the entire restaurant is covered in marble - very modern, minimalistic, and chic). The food was all very inventive and flavorful, pairing interesting ingredients together. Among our favorite dishes were the tuna tartare with raspberries and almonds, the veal with mayo and capers, the corn dish with cream of corn and coffee, and the lemon tart (seriously, don't leave without getting the lemon tart - practically every table ordered one while we were there and we were not disappointed when we got ours! Tasted like little puffs of lemony, merinquey heaven). We also got the seafood linguine, carrots with fish and roasted fig ice cream. Our waitress recommended a light and fruity red wine that went perfectly with all of our food. Only negatives: Service was a bit slow but the place was jam packed the entire time we were there and the waitresses never stopped running around. Also, it's a bit on the pricey side, especially when you consider the tapas-sized plates but it was a fun and delicious splurge! This is clearly a popular neighborhood hotspot and was such a lovely experience! Definitely recommend it! This place was great. We tried unsuccessfully to get a reservation at Chateaubriand and ended up here. It was perfect though. Modern interior, hip crowd, but casual and comfortable (except for the stools though - by the end of the meal our backsides were definitely wishing we had gotten one of the regular tables). Lots of small dishes to share. Super fresh ingredients. Interesting use of herbs and spices. Flavor combinations we had never had before. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend it! read more

This was place just awful! The small plates were average at best, some better than others, but overall, average. The lighting in the restaurant was far too intense, the owner who insisted on standing around was rude and obnoxious and the seating at the bar was uncomfortable to the point where I simply had to leave. There was nothing pleasant or relaxing about this establishment. I felt uncomfortable from the moment I arrived until I left. It was such a regrettable experience and I resent that I was made to feel so turned off on such a special evening. Go at your own peril but with little or no expectations! read more
