The tables are right up against their dusty shelves of soup mixes and other Vietnamese ingredients. The won ton soup was pretty salty and the wontons were pretty small. It was just ok. The ramen was a little better but also salty. Overall this place is passable if you're in the neighborhood and wanted a quick bowl of comfort food, otherwise keep looking.

It was our first trip to Quebec, and after enjoying a lot of wine the night before, we woke up a bit hungover. We decided to try GAO for lunch, and their pho and BBQ pork with rice completely hit the spot. We were very satisfied with the flavors and overall quality also good service as well. If I could make a couple of small suggestions, I wish the pho broth were served a bit hotter, and it would be great if they offered a little cilantro and onion on the side. Other than that, it was such a delicious and charming little place. We definitely want to come back again.

Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam is an all-inclusive experience. Every meal here is a multi-course affair that moves from soup to appetizer plate to entree and dessert. Alcohol isn't offered but guests are welcome to BYOB and there's no corkage or other associated fees. It's fair to say that you'll leave Restaurant Jardin du Vietnam very full for a reasonable price even if what you've consumed looks nothing like your typical order from a Vietnamese restaurant in San Francisco. The only decisions to be made here pertain to your choice of entree and dessert. At my table our entree orders included Poulet (chicken) Curry ($25.95CAN, and a bit one-note) and a Shrimp/Scallop dish ($32.95CAN, pristine but bland in flavor). The latter was chosen because it featured vermicelli (aka rice noodles) which are often featured in favorite Vietnamese dishes back home. But there's a silver lining here; the entire experience of the place is interesting and sort of fun and though the food wasn't my favorite version of Vietnamese fare I liked, overall, what was on offer. Several tables were filled with parties of 4, early and known to the restauranteurs, and covered with wine bottles, evidence that Restaurant Jardin has a local fan base. The restaurant itself is authentically ornate and unique to the area. And the multi-course experience is leisurely and enjoyable. Accompanied with such reasonable prices (1CAN$ = .75 US) it was easy to imagine how Restaurant Jardin could become a favorite amongst locals seeking something a bit different. It might not have been my favorite version of Vietnamese fare but I enjoyed the overall experience.

The owner is very friendly with a smile on his face, small restaurant, don't expect modern decoration or furniture, this is about food and ambiance. It is bring your own wine, don't be in a hurry. If you take the Table d'hote, expect to be there for about 2 hours. Alot of people are regulars, you can tell, joking with the owner, etc... It is simple but tasty and I had a great time finishing that bottle of wine. Thank you Mr. Long, it was really good, we will be back. What a privilege to be able to enjoy well prepared Vietnamese food served in large portions. The pork served with both #49 and 58 were both juicy, tender, well- seasoned with great depth of flavor and texture. We also enjoyed the 3 bean drink. Reminds me of the Filipino halo- halo. It was served with bean sprouts but none of the usual greens (mint, basil, cilantro) to add for flavor. One member of the group is a vegetarian and we were surprised there weren't more options on the buffet or menu. They were very accommodating though and took the meat out of a noodle dish. All in all, a good experience and very pleasant waitstaff.

The place is quite small and lightly decorated. It's a relatively quick, fill you up place, and the prices are middle of the ballpark. Not a lot of pho choices if you're an exotic type though, as they only have the regular deluxe, rare beef, brisket, beef balls, or chicken/veggies (plus a couple meatless options). Their pho is quite inoffensive. Nothing to blow you off, but certainly no complaints for its quality. If you're someone who wants a standard pho without any concerns for exoticness, this place does its job. Service is good, no complaints at all.
