How do you know when a restaurant needs to improve its ventilation system or change its oil more frequently? Anyone, anyone? How about when you leave the restaurant smelling so strongly that strangers at the shop you visit afterwards start wondering where that intense odor is coming from, and you have to say with your cutest face possible, "Um, I think that's me." Le Petit Cambodge is always packed, always frenetic, always leaves you satisfied but not always feeling so good about yourself afterwards. The food is hearty, flavorful and relatively cheap, but nothing about the experience is refined. The seats are too close together, the clients shove into each other without saying sorry, the service and food is fast so you're in and out before you know it. This is not to say that you shouldn't go. But if you do definitely keep all of that in mind and be sure not to interact with any humans in a small space until you've aired out your clothes for at least a couple of hours. read more

I had no idea this was one of the refuge sites during the Paris attacks. It was surreal eating at the bar and imagining the pandemonium that occurred during the attacks. The menu is completely in French. It's affordable. The cheapest item is 10 euro. If you enjoy Vietnamese bun thit nuong, or the vermicelli bowls, this is a great choice. The rice noodle used is more akin to banh hoi. It's very fine. The rice noodle bowl isn't quite like traditional vietnamese noodle bowl, but I don't think that's necessarily the restaurant's vision. This is not Cambodian food. It is far from it. The flavors the lack thereof the disappointment. For starters the beef rice was something of a disaster the beef itself was tasteless over priced and didn't resemble anything close to a Cambodian dish. And then the lemonade it was basically squeezed lemon juice into a cup of ice. And then.. the creme de la creme the famous bowl of noodles that made Cambodia famous, the Phnom Penh noodles. The price tag of one of these bowl of soups were 14 Euros and friends please do yourself a favor and don't get this. I took two bites and had to push it aside it was basically water and noodles thats all the flavors that it had. In total we paid a miserable 48 euros for a shitty bowl of Kathew, imitation beef lok lak, egg rolls, lemonade and soda. Not a good day for us. Coming all the way from Long Beach and being Cambodian myself I figured hek, it might not be as close to Cambodia or even in the states but atleast its Cambodian and they can't fuck up cambodian food. I came across this restaurant due to its proximity to Helmut Newcake (the best gluten-free bakery ever.) And any dining experience that involves drawing -- I'm into it. (You write your order on a notepad, just asking for artistic embellishment.) I love that they have vegetarian options and a very convivial atmosphere. We found this restaurant by chance as a referral from our hosting air bnb but the food was very delicious. We ordered the Bobun special, one beef and one shrimp. The portion sizes are filling and the waiting staff very friend even for those who French may not be their first language (us). This was my first time trying this particular dish but I would definitely go back a second time. The special includes a type of spring roll that is mixed in with the vermicelli, there is also fresh mint, carrots, and salad mixture that adds to the flavorful dish. I did prefer the beef special over the shrimp just because the beef was more flavorful but this place is definitely worth trying. read more

Le Petit Cambodge is located near the Canal St Martin, and it is frequented by many Parisians... so much so that there is often a line. It gets crowded for lunch and dinner, so I'd recommend going a little early or deal with waiting. I, admittedly, do not have much experience with Cambodian food, but it does remind me of Vietnamese. I went on the recommendation of a friend to try their "bobun", which I really liked. The concept of the resto is fairly neat - take a seat, read the menu, write down what you want, and wait. To pay, go up to the cashier (caisse) and tell them your table number. That said, I have now eaten here at least 3 times. I also tried their noodle dish, which reminds me of pho. My favorite is sill the bobun especial avec crevettes (shrimp). Bonus: It's about the only place that I can get a quick (not fast food), affordable (about 13E/each) meal. read more

This place was great! I never ate Bobun before, but I honestly loved it! Make sure you get Pork! The service was great. The waitresses here are super sexy (you know who you are ;-) ) But their sexiness has nothing to do with the great service and their cool vibes. BEST bobun ever !! I've never been to cambodia so I can't comment on the authenticity of this place but it is the best bobun I've ever had in my entire life. I think maybe it's mean to appeal more to the western taste and i LOVE it. Started with the shrimp spring roll which is super fresh. A little bland without the sauce, which is expected. My main I had the normal bobun and oh.my.god. A-MAZINGGG. The beef is marinated in the most fantastic way, the portion is huge, and everything mixed together is just beauty. I could have done with a little less sauce at the bottom because it became almost like a soup near the end, so maybe next time Ill ask for sauce on the side and add it as i want. The fried spring rolls that come with it were okayy, not that great, but a fun addition (bitt on the oily side). I'm not sure what the differences are, but I believe this one opens a little earlier and when I went around 7:30 there was no wait at all and only a few tables were occupied. Just like the old Camboge, you write your order on a slip of paper and the waiter takes it. Giant bowls of bo bun or tiny curries--everything is delicious! read more

I'm a little perplexed at the popularity of Le Petit Cambodge. Having dined here on several occasions over the course of thee years, one would think that Le Petit Cambodge was the only Cambodian restaurant in the city, when in fact, there is another another one block away, although it is my understanding it is owned/managed by the same proprietors. Ordering is quite simple, you jot your wishes on a sheet of paper, then after you're done with your meal, you pay directly with the cashier. Chopsticks are creatively placed in repurposed bud vases in the center of the table. Most table seating is on high stools at shared tables, although there is a single table with regular chairs. Shared tables in close quarters is nothing new to those outside of the USA, so if you're expecting your own cozy table, don't, as all of these tables seat up to six people in close proximity. The food is tasty, but not so much so that, in this diners opinion, justifies the long lines and crowds. Typically, the authenticity of a restaurant can be gauged by the number of patrons of the background of the food type being served. On my visits, the clientele were primarily hairy mustached and beared gents in skinny jeans ... they can make fun of us, I can make fun of them ... then again, I just described Valencia Street in San Francisco, so I guess I'm making fun of us too. You won't likely see a Mexican family eating at Chipote and those that know good dim sum, know that you don't go to Yak Sing, which caters to the neck knots of the Financial District, you walk several blocks south to Canton. I suppose living from San Francisco, we're spoiled by more authentic Asian restaurants, so our expectations are always a bit higher, but if you are interested in dining with locals, having a nice meal and then wandering the banks of the Canal St. Martin after your dinner, this is the place to go. read more

Le Petit Cambodge had a great selection of Cambodian dishes (a nice break from the meat heavy French diet) with great flavors. We stopped by for dinner at 7 and were seated promptly with no wait. The service was great as well and the waiter was great in recommending dishes that would suit our tastes. We settled getting the shrimp rolls, beef noodles, mixed bobun, a minced pork dish. The bobon, which is their signature dish, was good but did not impress me as much as their other dishes. If I visit again I will be sure to get another one of their noodles. I have visited this restaurant on several occasions, after drinks at le comptoir general for example. It is always packed, so we usually get bo bun special to go, and then enjoy the food on the Seine. It is more than you would pay at most places for Bo Bon, and not necessarily that much better, but service is fast, and the atmosphere is always rocking. I hate to see what happened a few weeks ago, and my thoughts and prayers are with the fallen and injured. I've tried... I've really tried to like this place. Maybe it's because I love Asian food, maybe it's because it's right next to where I study. But alas, liking it seems to be impossible. Let's start with the service, shall we? Don't expect a waiter to take your order. Instead, you write it down yourself, and if you misunderstand the description on the menu, well - that's on you! Secondly, don't even dare to be a vegetarian there. The bobun "végétarien" is about as tasteless as shoe-soles. All they do is take out the meat. Tofu? More vegetables? More sauce? Not "authentic" enough (their words, not mine). The other time I ordered a curry végétarien - now that was ok. I left there hungry, but oh well, let's just say their portions are closer to being French than Cambodian. I finally had the last straw today. I tried to have lunch there with a friend, even willing to overlook the overcrowded tables and uncomfortable stools. Since it was cold, we both went for the vegetarian soup. What did we get? It was vegetarian alright. But rice pasta in warm water for 11 euros? Non, merci. When we complained about how the ingredients most definitely did not justify the price, we were graced with the following answer: "Well if you weren't vegetarian I could offer you something else, but I can't just make up ingredients". Of course, it was our fault we're vegetarians. Since exchanging it for another dish wasn't an option, we got to either leave without paying or serve ourselves to the biggest joke of a vegetarian dish I've ever seen, and pay 11 euros while at it. Terrible service. Waiters are rude and behave as if you are invading their territory. This is opposite of what a restaurant should be. Tables are extremely close to each other and you are repeatadly harrassed either by a waiter or a client whenever they try to pass between two tables. I'm visiting Paris and I found this place on a list of "must tries." I love vermicelli bowls and have had them many, many times. This was pretty probably the worst one I've had. And I don't say that in a mean spirit, just in terms of "deliciousness" (haha my only factor). First, the noodles themselves were tasteless and undercooked (or dry). They use the very very thin vermicelli which I do not like. My suggestion to management is get thicker vermicelli - it will make the bowls taste much better. Second, there is a lot of stuff packed into a small bowl. It was very hard to mix everything together without making a mess. The shrimp tasted good and the spring rolls were good albeit soggy. Lastly, it was not served with fish sauce (what???). I also got the veggie summer rolls to start and I did not like them. The wrapper was not soft (very dry and hard to bite through) and there were no veggies that differed from what I got in my bobun (salad, sprouts, fried onion (what??). thats it). Usually there are carrots or cucumber or avocado. Sorry but I do not recommend this place for people who know what good bun and summer rolls taste like. The price for bobun, summer roll, and glass of wine was 26.50 euro. Wayyyy too much for the quality of food I received. Also agree with other commenters that the service was bad (it didn't really bother me though since its wasn't crowded and I wasn't in a rush). read more

Been here twice and the first was better than second hence the dock in store. I got the phon phemn soup both times and it was very flavorful. Second time was a bit dry with the soup base and the noodles overpowered the soup overall. Our friends got the bo bun and said it was ok. No cocktails just wines. The service was appalling. These guys do not care about people. We sat down outside and waited, then the manager knocked on the glass window from the inside telling us to leave, with some unpleasant hand gestures. In all fairness we arrived at near closing time but the communication could have been friendlier. Maybe there is a secret Parisian hipster look we did not have? The host/owner at the cash is extremely condescending and made fun of my French when I am clearly a foreigner (I speak decent French, not the best, but at least I don't expect people to speak English for me) and laughed about it right in front of me with other customers who seemed uncomfortable at what he was doing. We were here with friends end of June for a dinner. This location won't let you in if someone from your group is late, even if the restaurant is 1/3 full. The waiter who sat us was not very pleasant but we decided to stay as the restaurant has had a good reputation for a long time. Unfortunately, we decided to leave when the waitress came to take our order and was particularly unpleasant with us by giving us snappy comments, things you should not say to a customer! We then went to "Le Cambodge", a few streets away. We were a little disappointed as the dishes were not truly authentic and we found the prices slightly high.
