This is a little hole in the wall place and there werent many people seated at the restaurant. I ordered the rare beef pho while my friend had a combo pho. He also ordered an appetizer of these rice paper dumplings filled with ground pork. The first thing I noticed was the smell of the broth when the pho came out. It was incredible! The broth was so flavorful and one of the best I've had in a very long time. Didn't need to add any extra sauces :) Lots of noodles and very tender meat. I appreciated they give you a ton of meat. After a cold, slightly rainy day trip to/from the Champagne region of France, we didn't want to go back out and find food... so we ubered Pho from Pho 14 and ate it in the lobby of our hotel, and man did it hit the spot!! One of my husband's requests when we were traveling to Paris was to try pho since there's a large Vietnamese population in France to see if there was any difference to it. When we arrived there was a big line out the door, they come out and ask "how many people in your party?" Then go back in. Vietnamese Pho made French style was rather delicious, the meat was tender and perfect. The broth was also good and not greasy. The noodles were cooked just right. Was the pho good? Absolutely. Was the location convenient, I guess so. Then why 1 star? There were lot of empty seats but they wanted to make sure the large tables are used by large groups so slotted me and my pregnant wife in the middle of two couples. Our jackets and bags alone meant we literally cannot fit in! The fact that they don't let me use my bank card also pisses me off. As I told them it's not a "credit" card but just a cash/charge card so it is effectively cash spend. It annoys me that they kept saying it's a foreign card so I'm not allowed to use it. Don't be stupid - as long as it's chip and pin it's safe and the bank won't take the money back - because it's a bloody CASH card (debit card)! Separately - it was hot in side. This place is legitimately delicious. In the week that I was in Paris, we ate here twice! I will caution that the beef broth pho tastes...different. The chicken pho is hands down the winner. I'd highly recommend that one over the beef. The rice dish I had was delicious but what was even better was the noodle with egg roll and pork (maybe beef, actually?). The noodle bowls I've had in the past were never that filling but Pho 14's was filing, plenty of great veggies and toppings, and the portion was huge. It's honestly the best Vietnamese noodle dish I've had of that type. The egg roll was also great. I've had a few of their desserts to try also and recommend the corn with tapioca and coconut. Pho 14 has good pho by LA standards. I can't speak to how it is in Vietnam since I haven't been yet. We came to Pho 14 since we were in the area, hungry, and everything was closed for the new year in the area otherwise. The pho is pretty fresh tasting and the pho ga (chicken pho) hit the spot on a rainy day after a night of drinking. Really good Vietnamese food. They speak English, French and Vietnamese. It is a really friendly environment and super busy. We had to wait for a while to get a seat. The way they served the pho is a little different than in the USA. They give you Thai red chili to put in for spice. If you like sriracha, they do not have the California brand. You will have to ask for Toung Ot (chili sauce). We ordered the banh cuon, which was good but I like the batter a little thicker. They do not have Pho Tai on the menu, but they have it with the rare meat and also the brisket. My daughter had the banana dessert and it was a tasty ending to a wonderful meal. This place is really inexpensive, so if you are on a budget for your travel, do come here for good food and price. It was 20.70 euro for the two dishes and dessert. I had no idea there is now an authentic pho place near opera/louvre. 6 years ago finding good pho outside of the 13th arr was an impossible task but today we got authentic good soup and authentic good price. Their menu is small, unlike their counter part in the 13th and limited to pho and some small appetizers. Although you can generally find a linen outside the joint on a weekend evening, there are benches and their authentic services moves the people and and out quickly. In a pinch, for an inexpensive meal in the outrageously expensive city that is Paris, it will do. But really, and I know I should not make such comparisons, but coming here made me appreciate even more how lucky I am to be living in Toronto, where we can get much better Vietnamese food (most ethnic foods, in fact!), and for much cheaper. The broth was just fine. The noodles were the wide kind - not what I'm used to because the pho joints in Toronto use thin noodles - but fine, though the portion was quite small. I do also understand that portion sizes in North America are often way too large, which is one of the reasons why obesity is such an issue, but after my meal here, I wasn't quite full. Interesting that it only came in one size, though. The amount of meat was maybe 1/4 of what you might get in Toronto - there were maybe 5 or 6 small, paper-thin slices.
