I'll start by saying that "Moms special" made with beef has got to be one of the BEST things I have ever eaten... ever. The beef is sooooo tender and flavorful. It was heavenly! Also their hot sauce is delicious! The special was my husband's dish but I couldn't stop stealing it! I got the garlic pork roll which was very fresh and the peanut sauce was great! The only thing that was odd about it was that it had a roll of I think crunchy wrapper that tasted can of stale and was kind of hard to eat but otherwise it was good! I also got the vermicelli bowl with lemongrass chicken and a spring roll, the chicken was great and the bowl was loaded. So tasty, I just wish it had more chicken. Came over from Vancouver to do business at the provincial legislature buildings and finished in the late morning so now we just finished lunch at this Vietnamese restaurant. It is a small restaurant with only a few tables located down near the waterfront in one of the many old brick building storefronts built in the early days of Victoria. It is cozy with a nice old-time feeling. The The chef and kitchen staff are a single family headed by mother, who told me she and the family are boat people refugees who fled Saigon at the end of the war and she adamantly told me she hates the current Vietnamese regime. The menu is not complicated and has all the usual Vietnamese dishes and then some. Very family-oriented. Our server (I think the daughter) has a wonderful smile, a great sense of humor, especially about her mum's feelings about present-day Vietnam, and a great personality. Lots of fun to talk with. The food was authentic, home-style, and pretty good-sized portions. Very much like I remember when working in Vietnam. I had the grilled chicken on rice with a deep-fried spring roll. Really great flavours in both. Also had the spicy beef bowl, which had a great umami flavour and perfect spiciness. When I am in Victoria again I should like to have another lunch here. read more

I was craving me some pho in Victoria, so looked to yelp to point me in the right direction. Unfortunately, there were several restaurants with less than 10 reviews each from people with no friends & a couple of reviews and they were all five stars if you know what I mean. When we first walked in there was only one couple with their luggage and the first impression was that the location was a little tired, and in need of some TLC. The two specials that we ordered off the menu we're not available! However our waitress with the primary red dyed hair suggested her mom's beef stew. She said after the 15 orders were gone, that was it. So we ordered the beef pho and an order of mom's stew with a pork roll. Everything was better than I could've imagined. Their portions are very generous an although we were very hungry, we took almost half home. Mom's home cooked food is so worth overlooking the ambiance. Using all the strength that I got to get past the front door made me hungry for some homestyle Vietnamese food! This place has become a neighbourhood staple and it does not disappoint. The fried spring rolls are the freshest I've ever tasted in my life and they *only* roll a few hundred each week so supplies are limited! I had a tomato shrimp rice dish that I also found to be quite unique. This is not your run of the mill pho/bun house. If you want you can go for a culinary adventure! Incredible food, the crispy spring rolls are amazing! The staff are incredibly kind and attentive.

Spring rolls were great, gluten free as is much of the menu. Would have been nice if there was a bit of lettuce on the plate for wrap. Friend had a vermicelli bowl, looked and smelled good. We had the pho, and that is where it unraveled... the broth had some interesting flavour notes but was too sweet. It was also darker (brown) than we are accustomed to (my spouse is from Vietnam). Plenty of ingredients, sufficient basil. While it was not too busy on a Sat morning there was no follow up after the food was served ("so how is your meal"). The second server that came on chose to argue with me when paying the bill (we were splitting with a friend) with a "you said"... I know what I said, they misunderstood and made an assumption. They did not have a payment device that could be brought to the table and it was broken; requiring that they hold the card in the machine while entering the info. The bill for lunch for three people was $85 plus an extra charge for hot sauce; so I don't feel that their price rating of $$ is accurate for a destination with a tired interior and lean back lounge chairs instead of dining chairs. read more

This is a good place to go to for Pho. It's not pretentious, if I may without judging has an old feel to it. The food speaks for itself. Originality in taste and texture. I know my pho and this is quite different in its own way. It's simplistic-its straightforward menu. You'll get what you asked for and in a good way. I really enjoyed the one size fits all bowl of the spicy beef with meatballs pho. It is delicious! I highly recommend. A group of 22 people is a lot to ask out of a restaurant, but our servers were very gracious, and though the service was as slow as can be expected from such a group, they made sure to make the experience a good one. We all had shrimp salad rolls as appetizers, and since the rolls are really quite large we split them so that each person had half of one. For my main I ordered from the vegetarian menu, picking the tofu vermicelli noodles, which are these thin rice noodles. The tofu was fried crispy, and there was quite a lot of it. The spring roll on the side was delicious, and didn't make me feel as oily as they usually do. I normally would order a soup noodle, but the dry noodle vegetarian option seemed better, and I'm glad I chose as I did because from the sip of the chefs special's broth I don't think I would have enjoyed the pho very much. Definitely more of a ramen broth girl myself. The noodles and assorted vegetables were very fresh tasting, and though I ate a bit too much, I didn't feel gross afterwards, just stuffed full of mostly water, as I probably ate two plates worth of bean sprouts. A nice experience overall despite it taking almost an hour for our food to get out to us. Perhaps even longer, but I wasn't really counting minutes. read more

My family and I had just arrived to Canada and we were very hungry so we stopped here but it seemed that it had already closed. The server (also the chef's daughter) was very kind and accepted us in even though it was clear she really wanted to close up. My family of 8 all got different items on the menu and we all liked the food a lot!!! The taste is quite different and we are planning to make another visit soon. I got the beef and meatball soup and I thought it was pretty good, I wouldn't come back just for it but the seafood hot pot looked really good so I would try that next time! Found this place on yelp while I was visiting Victoria. It was tucked in a cozy area and the atmosphere was very different compared to any other pho place I've been to. Instead of a fast food type of feel usual pho places are in Vancouver, this was more of a dining experience. Dim lights, good drinks, good service and hearty food. Cute date spot since it felt intimate overall. The pho noodles were delicious. I just got the regular beef noodles and the broth was very tasty on its own and I didn't need to add any sauces. First advise for this place: don't put bun bo hue on your specials board if you don't know what a bun bo hue is. Bun bo hue is not just pho with lemon grass and chilli oil; the soup contains lemon grass and shrimp paste, the noodles should be round, and it normally contain pig knuckle, beef shank and congealed pig blood. If you just put chilli oil on pho, just put spicy pho on the menu. Second, be consistent. My bf and I both ordered bun bo hue. My bowl has 3x more chilli oil and lemon grass than his. I have a thick layer of chilli oil in my bowl that every strand of noodle is covered in oil. To make it worse, thr chilli oil is not even spicy. My stomach felt upset all night after that bowl of oily "pho". Third, poor service. The two servers were polite at first but once we ordered, two more tables sat down and we didn't get any attention from them afterwards. I meant to let them know what I think about the noodles at the spot but they didn't come by throughout the entire time (but they stopped by the table next to us several times). After trying several minutes to get their attention (during that time the servers walked towards our direction twice but failed to see me waving at her), my bf ended up just walking up to pay. I am a huge Pho fan and have yet to find my favourite Pho place in Vic. But the wait it over, I think I found it! I tried their pork vermicelli and boy was it amazing. Their meat had a different flavour than most vermicelli, but let me tell you, it was great and it more than worked. The spring roles in the vermicelli bowl also had a bit of a twist, I want to describe it as tempura like batter which equates to crispy, while still fluffy. The atmosphere: it's cute, it's cozy. You can tell the owners tried to make this place more modern and cozy feeling with their decor. My verdict is "it's okay" and a different feel than most Vietnamese restaurants. Though I got to say the bathrooms are weird and creepy. They are not dirty, but I would suggest holding it. I just very much dislike bathrooms in the basement, and that is what Le Petit Saigon offers. You've got to check this place out. 5 stars for the food, 4 for the atmosphere. read more

My friend and I were craving pho so we went on Yelp and searched Vietnamese restaurants. The reviews for Le Petit Saigon drew us in and I am so glad it did! While I didn't see vegetarian pho on the menu there was a great selection of vegetarian choices. The waitress recommended either the ginger tofu hot pot or the vermicelli bowl. I went with the hot pot and it was incredible! The broth was flavourful and full of ginger. I ordered a lychee basil spritzer, which was also delicious. If it weren't so early in the day I would've ordered the alcoholic version. My friend ordered the chicken pho and a Vietnamese coffee, which she also raved about. Hands-down the best Vietnamese in Victoria. The best in food, service, and overall vibe. (Other places aren't this good, I've tried them.) Their Pho broth is aromatic and delicious, the noodles are perfectly cooked. I also had their spring rolls which were crispy, tasty, and not greasy. I also appreciate that this place feels cozy and a bit funky in its decor. It's has character that's lacking in the other Vietnamese places I've tried in Victoria. When I got there, so did several other tables. The waitress just laughed and said that's the way it always happens. A few minutes later, the place was almost full. The staff hustled and handled the lunch rush really well. My order was taken as soon as I was ready, and food came out within five minutes. I peeked at other patrons' food. We stumbled upon this while in town on New Year's Day looking for a late night meal. The broth in the pho was unique and delicious. It has a sweeter note to it than others I've had and hit the spot. I've been looking for some good Vietnamese food since I moved here from Vancouver and while Pho Vy has solid but pricey pho I haven't found much else until I came here. Seeing the dude with the sandwich board parading around Government street made me a bit skeptical but the location is hard to find so i understood once I got there. The cozy room is tasteful and clean which is an unexpected bonus when I got to Vietnamese restaurants. Even better was that there was quick, friendly service - the former is normal but the latter is an unknown at places like this. The food was even better - my lemon grass pork on rice came with an edible salad (another surprise!) and a proper spring roll (technically they screwed up on this since I asked for the lemon grass chicken but it was good enough that I forgave right away). The pho and the lemon grass pork on vermicelli served at my table were also very good. The bill for the 3 of us was $40 all in which is perfectly reasonable especially considering the solid service, the nice room and good food. All in all, this is a place work going to. read more

This restaurant is down a little alley, a bit hard to find but so worth it! My dad the ginger chicken hotpot, so delicious! I had a bite and was so good! Very gingery though so if you don't like ginger is isn't for you. My mom had the lemongrass chicken bowl. It looked amazing and she loved it! She would get it again, very flavorful! My sister had the lemongrass chicken bowl too with an egg roll, she also loved it. I had the beef pho and it was good. The broth was delicious! The meat pretty good but the noodles just average. For dessert we had this sautéed bananas which was like bananas in a sauce, kind of soup like. I never would've thought to order this but we did on our servers suggestion. Was so good!
