Then the male host came over and insisted on seeing the paper my husband had with the email. He took it out of my husband's hand and started trying to read my husband's notes. I asked if there was a problem with the reservation--had they found it? The man said something about wanting to know if it was prepaid (do they do gift certificates in Paris? We had no idea what he meant). I said no, it was not, so he left again. The menu is prix fixe. A different server came to take our order. She was more upbeat and jovial. I have not had that happen before in Paris, where the tipping conventions are different, and a 15% service charge is included in the prices by law. I have only had monkfish liver before, but the way they were able to perfectly cook the monkfish gave it a texture and flavor reminiscent of lobster. Frenchie has definitely earned its Michelin star, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has another by the next time I come back.

We were delighted to get two spots. David was our server and was very helpful, charming and friendly. He spoke English to us as our French is...not good. The food was fantastic. We had salad, the tuna and risotto mains followed by two desserts. The treat of the evening was to be seated at the bar where all of the desserts were being put up. We had such an enjoyable exchange with the pastry chef, watching her work and talking about the dishes. I regret not being able to tell you her name. She was lovely.
