Bonjour! Found out about this place through online reviews and decided to check it out. When first ordering, the staff was very friendly and helpful in understanding the menu. After ordering drinks, the main waitress began to be overbearing about ordering more than we wanted and pressuring us beyond our hunger. Our food was tasty, yet the portions were small with little protein included in the pasta. After dinner, we were then pressured again to purchase a dessert and after persistent pursuit, we declined with discontent. We were then greeted with a lesson as to why our food was tasty? as well as being pressured to leave a non-customary tip on top of our bill. To end the experience off, the waitress then asked us to leave a positive online review to recommend to others. The interactions felt slightly in-genuine but was not a horrible experience. This little gem is located in the Opera district of Paris. We noticed it was highly rated on YELP and decided to give it a try. This brings me to the reason I love this community. I've traveled to another country and was able to use the directions on Yelp to locate a great place near me. I was then able to use the directions to find it and then enjoy a great meal. I give this place five stars. One star for being moderately priced, another star for the friendly service, one star for an innovative menu items, yet another star for using all fresh ingredients, lastly I'm giving this place the last star for having a great atmosphere. I dined like a queen for a moderate price and for that I thank them. The staff was extremely friendly and was willing to make a substitution so I could take advantage of the lunch special. Each course was even more delicious then the one before it. Oh one more thing, the serving sizes were large enough to satisfy my american size appetite. The meal began with a salad of fresh garden vegetables lightly dressed and beautifully presented. Let me mention that the tomatoes tasted like they were freshly picked. It's a taste that you will almost not recognize if you are accustom to grocery store tomatoes. The greens were amazing crisp and I found it delightful to eat. The next course involved grilled fish with a curry coconut sauce, tucked under the filet was a mix of stir fired veggies. On this trip to Paris, having confit de canard was high on my list and after a great deal of research, I decided to go to Le Sâotico. This lunch was magnificent. Located on rue de Rivoli, the decor inside is warm and inviting. The large space is filled with flowers and pictures and a bar in front as one enters. To begin my meal, I had a salad with asparagus and Serrano ham which was beautifully plated. This was refreshing and just enough before the main course arrived. The confit de canard arrived on a bed of sautéed diced potatoes. One bite of the duck and it was tender, packed with flavor and most importantly, greaseless. The potatoes! As I ate these cubes of wonder I almost cried out with joy as they were crisp on the exterior and meltingly tender inside. The duck paired with these superb potatoes were orgasmic. I was in heaven and didn't want to be brought back to earth. I had a glass of Chablis which made the flavors sing. A crème brûlée was my dessert of choice and the kind patron sent another one on the house which was kind of him. An espresso with petit fours ended this delicious lunch. Le Saotico is on my list for restaurants that I will visit again and again and derive the same pleasure when I eat their toothsome canard de confit. This is the stuff of dreams! Exquisite. We truly felt we had a French fine dining experience. Coming from a HUGE FOODIE this place is a treasure. It's what makes you appreciate French cuisine and cooking. We tried fois gras here and also lamb chops, oysters, scallops and dessert and all was prepared to excellent taste and texture. A MUST!!! Also, for travelers who are gluten free--the owner is celiac and her husband is the chef so she pointed out everything that was adaptable to gluten free, they took care of us and I (a sensitive celiac) did not get sick. read more

Maybe they don't actually serve people until after lunch or something, but it was empty and the waiter seemed surprised we showed up before noon. But we were hungry for brunch and wanted food! The menu for breakfast was rather small, but still enough variety for us to settle on something. Food wasn't bad at all, I was satisfied with my croque. Nothing too amazing though. They have a variety of drinks too, if you're into that, early in the morning as well. There seemed to be only one waiter who loved to take his time getting our orders, bringing them out... and then he went to go eat his lunch when we were trying to find some way to get our checks. But then again, seems like most restaurants in Europe are very laid back and slower-paced than America. Happy with my visit, but I wished it was somehow better. What a restaurant magnifique! The food was superb, the atmosphere quite lovely and the service was just perfect! I had the most delicious salmon tartare for an appetizer, which was very delicate and savory. For my second course, I chose scallops, cooked perfectly (I am very particular about my scallops!) and set beautifully fully on top of risotto, which was on a delicate sauce. I savored every bite! Another cozy but spacious restaurant, with nice music playing in background: I can get used to this lol Not sure if they knew we were tourists but she literally took the sandwich board to our table, to explain almost every entree, nice touch. Ended up tasting the duck confit, which was farmed so a bit different texture yet tasty, especially the potatoes, cooked in duck grease. Tuna steak cooked just right, a bit light on the sauce, came with rossitto, also nice. For applies, escargots and clams also recommended. Good service,owner came out to ask for updates lol. A gem! Fantastic food, polite staff in professional attire, sparkling clean, and AMAZING CHEF who can accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan requests while keeping the meals perfectly French, creative and spectacular! This place is great for fine dining and even business dinners! We are a complicated couple - I cannot eat gluten and dairy, while my partner eats vegan. We did not expect to be able to enjoy much of French cuisine while in Paris, due to the clashing of our dietary restrictions with traditional French cuisine. We were also warned before our trip that French waiters do not appreciate special requests and we better stick to the specialized or non-French restaurants. Le Sâotico released us of all our worries and defied any stereotypes about attitudes of French restaurants! When the waiter heard about our dietary limitations, she summoned the chef. The chef worked with us in a most patient and friendly manner - creatively suggesting alterations to menu items and putting a 3-course meal together with us. My partner had to explain what "vegan" meant, and the chef created a 3-course vegan meal suggestion on the spot, that included plenty of protein. We started with a Kir Normad aperitif, which I can warmly recommend. We didn't have to wait long for our first course to arrive, which we knew was custom-made. Everything we tasted was very fresh, exquisite, and to our big surprise absolutely "French". Even my partner's lentil salad as a starter tasted uniquely "French". The chef's wine suggestion was spot-on and rounded up the tastes very well. Although the dessert was a challenge, because we wanted to share, the chef again customized in a creative and most friendly way and exclaimed "No problem! It's possible." We left happily with full stomachs and love for Paris and French cuisine. Aperitif, wine, water, and two 3-course special-made meals ran us at around 80€ - an absolutely fair price for the quality, quantity and service. The only recommendation I would have is to overthink the decorations at the bar, as it seemed a bit tacky. But in that sense it was also funny. We are looking forward to visit again next time we are in Paris! read more

Warm and cozy on a rainy night. The servers were very attentive and the food was excellent. We appreciated the guidance on wine selection and wound up with very nice Médoc. We started with cod fritters and shrimp pastries, crisp and tasty. My husband and our friend enjoyed their steaks, with roasted potatoes, My lamb chops were cooked perfectly. The wife took our orders and she was very attentive in doing so. She answered any questions we had and even gave us a great suggestion. Well. The food was average in the end. Only the foie gras would deserve more than that. For the service. Well... it was ok, but the ambiance of the restaurant was mostly stressful. We could hear the manager micromanaging absolutely every thing her staff was doing. She was very rude with them. Honestly, I was suffering for them. It was very painful and awkward to witness that. We waited a long time for the check. Only the manager (owner?) of the restaurant was able to manage the check. We ask to have the note with our desserts but our waitress had to ask several times the manager so we can pay and leave this really odd place. It was the only restaurant we had the occasion to go in Paris and hoped we would have a good time. But the best time was when we could leave. So sorry for the staff. They all seemed rather young, and might have been in training. But the way she was managing them was pretty rough. I know that the hospitality business is stressful and rough. But at least this owner need to learn how to manage her team so the clients have a great time and don't attend her overly bossy way to train. read more

Ok. So usually before I go somewhere I ALWAYS check yelp. I did not for this place and was going off of a recommendation from a friend. Folks I've been coming to Paris for almost 15 years and this was probably one of the WORST dinner experiences ever. The place was not packed when we arrived but we were only two people and they jammed us into a corner table. So much so that the folks who were next to us became our friends for the evening. My friend ordered a pre-fix menu. Due to food allergies, I couldn't eat half of the items offered on that menu, so I just wanted a pasta from their entrees menu and dessert. This request threw the waiter off who was extremely rude, and it only went downhill after my request. When I explained to her that I have food allergies, she said don't worry I will have the chef make a pre-fixed menu that you can eat. I insisted I didn't want the prefix just the entree and dessert. She huffed off and when our meal service started after about 30 min of waiting, someone else was serving our table. Since I hadn't ordered the pre-fix menu but my friend did they literally brought me out an "empty" plate. Initially, I thought they gave it to me because they thought we might share the dish. In any event, the portion sizes were literally one-two bites. This is when the oddness continued. No joke, when my friend was done with her starter, they took my empty plate and her dirty one. Then brought her the next course and gave me another empty plate. Now I'm not sure if that's standard at this restaurant but I've eaten many places in Paris and never experienced the "empty plate" switcharoo. At this point, the people next to us notice and started laughing as we did as well. They commented on how oily their gambas were and my friend agreed. I should also clarify, it is a single gamba, wrapped in puffed pastry with a tiny side salad. When my pasta dish finally came out ( I forgot to photograph it) it was just "ok" nothing super. However, before they brought me the pasta they tried to give us someone else's order. Turned out it was the table next to us. The dessert I ordered wasn't anything special it was supposed to be a molten cake but it was over cooked and didn't flow when cutting into it and two scoops of ice cream with some raspberry reduction and sugar art. I will note my friend did not order dessert and when they brought mine out they did not bring her an empty plate, which made the earlier "empty plate" stuff weirder. We asked for the check and received it in usual Paris time (SLOW). But attempting to pay for said check took twice as along. We saw the guy who had been helping us walking around with the credit card machine and we told him we wanted to pay and he motioned for us to wait and then went upstairs for so long that we had to get up and find someone else who could help us. It was just our "luck" we found the initial woman that helped us and she was equally as kurt as before. We paid and got out of there and won't plan on ever going back. The whole experience was just odd and the food wasn't stellar. You can find much better restaurants in Paris. read more

I was severely disappointed by this restaurant. We ordered the gambas in filo, the escargot in fresh pastry and a mixed salad for starters. The gambas were oily AF. They needed to drain them for another 30 seconds to a minute -- way too oily. The escargot were ok but the escargot seemed sparse. The main screw up of the evening was the scallop risotto. I think the scallops were cooked fine but the risotto was terrible. It was overly dense and glue-like. The rice grains were severely broken and low grade. We've had MUCH better risotto in local area restaurants. The menu was interesting and if you don't mind mediocre food this is the place for you but if you're looking for an experience, look elsewhere unless you're looking to rack up another 'meh' in your repetoire. read more

Maybe an off night? My husband and I headed here at the recommendation of someone from tripadvisor and we were very disappointed. This was our first meal in Paris and we were excited for some delicious food. I usually don't review restaurants we don't like, but felt that we "wasted" a meal in Paris. First off, the service was terrible - and this was the only place in our two weeks trip (to Paris and Nice) that we experienced this. Our sever was rude and short towards us. We ordered two starters - cheese plate and ravioli. Ravioli came out and it was very good. At this same time, they brought the plate with spreads for our cheese. More than10-15 minutes later they come over with a plate of cheese and ask us to choose. Okay. I waited 15 minutes for that? Our steak came. It was not good. It was undercooked (we requested medium) and it was chewy. it did not taste of good quality. We didn't have more than a couple of bites. There are a lot of great places to eat in the city. We were on our way to another restaurant and stopped to look at the chalkboard menu outside. It was raining and this charming little brasserie on the corner beckoned us in. Our french is basic and the owner offered to walk us through the more challenging translations. We had a lovely Pommard premier cru Clos Blanc recommended by the owner. Pate and salad for starters and veal and pork entrees. Rice pudding for dessert never tasted so good. The service was great, nice jazz playing, and the setting was intimate. "Wow, wow, wow" is how the table said I should open this review. Every bite of the food deserved comment. Absolutley delicious. Our party of four were seated right away at 9:30 on a Tuesday night, but the place was adequately full (we couldn't see the second floor). Like most of our experiences in Paris, the wait staff were hopping all over, but they were very attentive, the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. We had a salads and a steak, penne pasta with shrimp (gambas), and a duck burger. From the beginning to the end it was wonderful. We capped it off with an eclair, a chocolate souffle, and the salted caramel mousse. The whole meal (for four) with salads, entrees, desert and a bottle of wine was €180, which seemed like a great value. They will be closed Thursday through Sunday, so check the hours. The place is cozy, the servers are very friendly, and the menu is always varied. They speak decent English here so ordering is not a chore and always correct. To preface, I have Celiac disease, which means I can eat no gluten or wheat. Easily the safest and best meal we had in Paris was here. The manager (owner?) also has Celiac disease, and when I informed my waiter, he called her over and she handled the rest of the ordering process. She checked in several times to make sure everything was correct. The food was wonderful--I had the lamb chops and the goat cheese toast (minus toast, of course). Both were very good. For dessert, there were several gluten free options (Creme brûlée, meringue cake, and I think a couple others). I chose the meringue, which came with a small scoop each of raspberry sorbet and vanilla ice cream. The entire thing was a gorgeous tower, topped with whipped cream, founded on the crunchy, vanilla meringue, and surrounded by three raspberries and a swirl of raspberry and vanilla sauces.
