Great BBQ with a side of 90's Central Iowa nostalgia! It's been a good minute since I, or anyone for that matter, last went to Valley West Mall. We'd been wanting to try Leachmon's new location and left thrilled to finally have visited. We got the Frank's Feast (3 meats and 3 sides), an order of banana pudding and drinks for $35. Such an incredible value for money. Meats: Fried chicken wings, brisket, and pulled pork sandwich Sides: Fried okra, mac and cheese balls, and fries. My folks ordered ribs, rib tips, potato salad, cornbread and mac and cheese. My husband loved the mac and cheese balls, I was a fan of the brisket and banana pudding and we all liked the sausage. Will absolutely return to try their cobbler since it was sold out.

I've eaten at Leachmon's twice. Both times the sandwiches were amazing. They just recently started opening for lunch and both times I ate at the lunch counter. The space has an old-time diner feel on one side of the restaurant. Monday through Wednesday they serve various sandwiches and fries. All the prices are in the $10-$13 range. On Thursday through Sunday they have a full menu with ribs, Southern sides, and interesting desserts. Prices are higher, but appropriate. This review is a preview because I will definitely be going for the full menu. The service is prompt and everything has been tasty. I am judging them solely on service and food. They're pretty new to the space so I'm giving them a pass on the ambience. It's a family restaurant and restauranting is hard work. I trust that they will get the ambiance fully dialed in in time. The most important thing is the food anyway and they have BBQ down! Lucky to have them so close to work :)

If you're looking for some good bbq, look no further. I know Valley West Mall doesn't have much to offer but it has this restaurant. The rib tips are amazing! They are flavorful and very tender! The bbq sauce is not overpowering but compliments the tips nicely! I'm not a big fan of the coleslaw as it has a strong vinegar taste which I don't like. If you like vinegar based coleslaw you'll enjoy it. The macaroni and cheese balls were pretty good as well but could use a little more flavor. By far the rib tips are the star!! The prices are good as well. I've only ordered takeout from this location and the food stayed warm.

Ribs were very tasty. Love the Mac and cheese balls too. Comes with a side of cornbread also. Will def try something else the next time we are at the mall. Very friendly staff and they run a food truck also during the summer.

After a long day of no food I decided to get up and get myself something to eat. Though at first, I didn't know what I wanted to eat. Then I got on my phone and saw someone post some food that look good and it was barbecue so I started craving barbecue, so naturally I got on Yelp to look up what to eat and I searched up barbecued places that's open in Des Moines and this review was the first place to pop up so I decided to take a drive down there and try some of their food because it looked good in the pictures we got there and was serviced immediately. I ordered rip tips with fries and smoked barbecue chicken with greens and baked beans. The meals also came with cornbread. When I finally got home, I ate it all sum Might say my back is very big if I can travel back in time I would order two more meals. Thank you for the service!! Moral of the story if you're deciding whether or not to eat here, do it, you won't regret it.

We saw there were a few table so we decided to try it with the intention to be quick. Boy am I glad we did! Started with the sunrise juice, a carrot juice blend and the homemade strawberry lemonade both were so fresh and delicious. We tried the brown sugar and cinnamon pop tart and that was heaven in my mouth. So much flavor and goodness. I ordered the limoncello French toast and it is a slice of fresh baked lemon bread made into French toast. The flavors were rich and the texture was fluffy. A must try while it's in season. Others got the turkey and avocado Benedict and the pancakes with eggs and bacon. All cooked to perfection. Our server Jess was so nice and we did tip her well for being so last minute, but to our credit we were out of there at 6 mins after closing while everyone was still working to close up. I try to not show up late but this one was so worth it!!

Service is usually stellar and the location is fairly convenient with lots of parking (in the back too!) My only complaint is that my friend I go to the restaurant with who is in a wheelchair due to mobility issues has to park in back and roll all the way around the building. Its fine on a nice day, but sucks if its extra warm or super cold. I know this isnt the fault of the restaurant, but the building owners . The ambiqnce is fine, if its busy it get a little louder than I'd like. Maybe some strategically placed sound dampening tiles? I get the industrial look, but with the concrete floors, its a bit of an echo chandler when itw busy.

There was room at the bar for us to sit and get a nice cold draw from the tap. I noticed by reading other reviews that the tenderloin and sausage sandwiches were top favorites here. Once I had a couple of drinks and heard/ seen about 15 tenderloins and sausage sandwiches be ordered and served I knew what I wanted. It didn't disappoint as I split my meal with my guest. Everything that I want and nothing I didn't need is here. I am excited as I found my new regular stop that makes me feel like the small town I'm from.

Hidden Gem, shhhhhh…read more Was on social media and someone sent out a link of locations of good tenderloins around. It so happened it was on the direct route for us on the way home that evening. We parked, got out and exchanged that "look" when your not sure about the outside of a place. However, don't judge this book by the cover, or the name for that matter. There was some seating outside, but we walked in, did a quick scan of the room and bellied up to the bar. It was a week day evening and it was not too busy. Newer waitress being trained behind the bar, but no worries we all gotta learn sometime. The place is a bar with all the normal "bar" things. Pool table, TVs, music, etc. Dimly lit, smell of fried food and beer. Seat yourself and vocal friendly staff. From the seats we snagged you could see the grill in the kitchen. The cook was working up a storm. I knew I was there for the tenderloin. I did a quick yelp search and found some great reviews on the Hot Sausage Sandwich after watching the cook work on 2 of them on the grill as we sat there. They were Giant! Convinced hubby he should try and just from the SIZE that I could see from my seat. We didn't get any sides just the two sandwiches. The orders were spot on. My breaded tenderloin was good! It was pounded flat, and they happily brought me extra pickles. The Hot Sausage Sandwich was a hit! Hubby was really impressed. He rates the Sandwich alone as 4 out 5 stars! it was a lot of food just the sandwich alone and he said he would happily come back. While we sat there enjoying our meals we watched pick up order after pick up order getting started and called in. That says a lot. We absolutely loved this hole in the wall. We loved the atmosphere and the vibe from the regulars as they sat an enjoyed their drinks. Hubby also mentioned how he got small town vibes from here and keeps talking it up even a week later. I know well be back. -quick PS I am trying to get the Sausage Sandwich pics to post and well post separately.
