    Hold a handgun step 1.

I can't say enough about this amazing HQL firearms safety course. First of all, it was a serious, professionally run operation. It was so well orchestrated, scripted and scheduled. Personally, it's hard to pick out a specific highlight from the whole amazing experience. First of all, the team, lead by Jonathan Bennet, is fantastic. He worked with his wife Christina, and fellow officer Chris. I get the sense that all the staff who work with us are law enforcement officers. John is a K-9 handler. Chris is SWAT. John gave all the classroom instruction with some small interjections from Christina and Chris. John is an amazing teacher. I say this as a teacher myself. He communicates his material precisely and in a very engaging manner. He analyzes his students and meets them at their level of understanding. He is patient and persistent in communicating ideas and then verifying student understanding. Equally important is Jonathan's sense of self. He does a great job conveying exactly who he is as a person and it gives credence to what he teaches as an instructor. He is very real. He is a man who puts God first, and keeps God in his family, and in his job. He is a living example of how to live your faith in a normal way. His Christian cheer and sense of humor not only make the class fantastically enjoyable, but also begs the deeper ideas of: "What's in his Kool-Aid? and I'll have what he's having." He works for the city of Gaithersburg, but unlike many municipal workers, he is definitely NOT just a cog in the machine, as attested to by his successful work with his Lead Through The Cross company. He doesn't dance around tricky topics, but faces them head on and makes his class hash out the details to increase our understanding and make us think about difficult situations. He knows the laws and knows law enforcement and civilians. He encourages us to know our rights and exercise them while we still can. After we finished in the classroom, we headed to the range to put some of the instruction into action. There was some excellent coaching given on the range. Everyone got to fire 10 rounds from Walther PPQ .22. It wasn't enough to scratch the itch, but it was enough for them to observe us an correct the most serious beginner errors. Everyone should take this class. Especially if you are on the fence about handgun ownership, this class will give you so much insight. It will give you all the information you need to decide whether a handgun is for you, and all the tools you need to properly use one should you decide to buy. John, Christina and Chris, thanks for a great class. I hope to take advantage of your other course offerings!

They have a lot of members from all walks of life, from hunters to law enforcement, casual target shooters to dedicated competitors. Despite recent pressures from Maryland legislation, Berwyn's membership remains strong and may even be growing larger as one of the few venues people can use for their hobby or career. The range itself is set in the woods of rural Bowie. Admittedly, it looks more like a Boy Scouts camp than a major high-tech range, but that's part of its charm. They have three "no sky" ranges, meaning there are baffles set to block any stray bullets that do not head down the range. A 50 foot, a 50 yard, and a 100 yard allow people to use whatever they need for their chosen firearms. As an outdoor range, you can expect to deal with weather and climate as well as insect life. I always check the forecast before deciding to head out there. As a private range, this is not accessible to the general public. To gain access you must send an e-mail asking about membership. Within a month, you will know if you are approved to join (I've never known anyone to be turned down). After that, you have access to the range, but must remember to follow all range rules, including proper safety, avoiding damage to the range, and cleaning up after yourself. If you're into firearms, for anything from hunting to marksmanship, and looking for a good range in the Prince George's and Arundel area, then I recommend looking into this place. Go to their website and check them out!

Safety 1st is the best training facility I have been to!!…read more The company I worked for used Safety 1st for officers training and the owner Mr. Thornton is the best I've trained under and I have been to many. He is very knowledgeable in all subjects he teaches. He even offers some free training at times. My company signed up for training on two subject matters and we just happened to be talk about another subject and Mr. Thornton wanted to see if we had been properly trained. Some of us just had not gained the knowledge as we should have on this particular subject. Mr. Thornton gave us the proper training for free. It just shows he cares about the quality of the subjects he educates officers on. In short my colleagues and myself appreciate and were captivated by how Mr. Thornton delivered his education on law enforcement subjects. He makes it fun yet makes you want the knowledge to become a well qualified professional in the law enforcement field. I will definitely spread the word on Safety 1st training. Kudos to Mr. Thornton and his team!!

I had my CCW initial training course from Mr. Thornton and this company back 2019. Since I used…read morethem before, I decide to use them again for my renewal training for my CCW. I called 301-346-2327 for over 2wks, this include texts and voicemails. They don't return any calls or respond to any texts. I actually called on one occasion and they answered but all i could hear was gun fire and they hung up the phone. Then i got a text saying kenneth thornton can i help you. So I sent another text. HE NEVER RESPONDED again. So i'm done with this company. Its so irritating to try to support local businesses in PG county. But the service you get is horrible. If they were to busy or not able to take any appts for training, at less have enough courtesy to respond to someone text or call. Don't waste your time. I went to Howard county and got training with no issues. And its cheaper. Only 125.00. And at small arms range they want 280.00. Very Disappointed,
