The process was…read morevery hit or miss, some parts went very smoothly and some were so stressful I thought the whole thing would fall apart. In the end it all worked out, thankfully. The staff were helpful but were slow to communicate and did not go above and beyond for us as first time buyers. Kind of disappointing. I figured our mortgage would get sold to a bigger lender/bank so I guess it doesn't matter in the long run but that aspect of this whole process is what made it the craziest/most stressful.

As a follow up to my previous review:…read more I was quite happily surprised to have a senior level customer service representative contact me to apologize for my bad experiences with Cambridge Savings Bank. Jennifer was extremely professional, intelligent and very apologetic. I explained that I really want to keep my banking business with a local bank, and not a monster like Bank of America, but I simply can't do that with such bad experiences like a non-working ATM card while overseas, or a mediocre online banking system. Jennifer and Cambridge Savings Bank have since set the standard for customer service: they have offered to reimburse me for any costs that I incurred as a result of the ATM card not working. They also explained the problem with the online bill system. Since our conversation (within the last 2 weeks) they have added a feature to the online bill system that is at least a step forward. She also explained that a solution will be coming soon. Assuming the online bill problems are fixed, I will stay with Cambridge Savings Bank for a long time. Jennifer was absolutely fantastic and THIS is why I use a local bank. Thanks Jennifer and CSB!

It was "no problem" that my husband wasn't with me...they could do it all that day and get them deposited. It took almost two hours to open two accounts (I've worked for banks so I know this is a ludicrous amount of time, but I paid the parking ticket afterwards and didn't complain much). I wasn't happy with the service from Shiva - the CSR who "helped" me with the accounts. But I thought that upon leaving I was all set. Little could I have known that for over the next month I would receive dozens of phone calls from him, tracking down forms he'd forgotten to give me to sign but that were now somehow super urgent. He called me, and my husband, who doesn't even handle our finances and even though I spoke to him on Friday and told him I'd send the last documents (for the umpteenth time!!!!) again on Tuesday after the holiday weekend, he called MY HUSBAND to get the paperwork. I am so fed up with this bank and the people who work in it. I asked Shiva to list me as the primary on the account since I was the one who had accounts there prior to opening the joint accounts. He listed my husband as the primary. Patriarchial society much? I informed him we did NOT want a debit card for the joint checking account and one arrived in the mail.

I love this bank! I've been here about 6 months -- I picked them because they have branches close…read moreto both work and home, but I've ended up loving them for a whole bunch of other reasons: First, they don't really charge fees for anything. And the savings account has an interest rate over 2%, which is better than you'll get in most money markets these days. So financially it's a good pick. They also give you some cash back on card purchases, and refund ATM fees from other banks so you can get cash anywhere. Also, unlike my previous bank, they were able to set up my personal and business accounts in one portfolio so I can transfer money easily from business to personal, instead of having to walk into the bank with a paper check like I did in the last place. Best of all, the customer service is awesome! They've taken care of everything I need, quickly and cheerfully. They'll call you personally if you make a mistake, and cut you a little slack if you go below zero in the account for a day or so before a deposit comes in. I actually *like* going to the bank. The staff makes a point of getting to know customers, and they'll greet you by name and talk for a bit if you have time. Usually they offer me coffee or cookies or a bottle of cold water when I go in. Their hours are good too, open a little later than some banks. All in all an A+ so far.

Fast forward 3 months later, and the provisional credit I had been given was then RESCINDED by Rockland Trust, and I was told they had been given "proof" by the merchant where the fraudulent transaction occurred that it was not fraudulent, despite the fact that the bank itself CONTACTED me that day when the purchase was made as they suspected it to be fraudulent. Now Rockland Trust is telling me there is "nothing more we can do", despite having already being able to provide me a credit for the fraudulent purchase that they TOLD me about the moment it happened. I will very likely be taking my business elsewhere entirely and never banking here again because of this complete failure, on Rockland Trust's part, to protect me and my financial security despite every indication and piece of evidence they had to do so.

It's always been a popular space, but now it's full of light, new furniture, and open space (but still a couple conference rooms). I'm a bank customer, but I much appreciate how the staff welcomes everyone to come here, whether you have an account with them or not. I was very excited to see they now carry Verve Coffee, one of my favorite roasters from California. (They formerly carried Peets.) Cap One customers can use their debit cards for 50% off, which is an even better deal now that the drinks are a bit more expensive. My 12 ounce lavender honey latte was $6 without the addition of non-dairy milk and tax. It was a tasty treat on this cold, cold day - definitely on the sweeter side. There's still an ATM near one of the front doors and another inside, with a large digital display for additional bank products. But again, they're not pushing to sell, so you can just come in for a drink and a chat, or just a relaxing place to sit. The wifi is still fast and there are plenty of outlets. It looks like they now carry some sandwiches and hot food in addition to pastries. So I'll be back!
