One star is more than REIS deserves at this point. We recently had a condo real estate transaction…read moreand REIS is the management company that was hired by the condo board. Charles Freitag, the owner of this company, was extremely irresponsible and negligent responding to our attorney's requests. Apparently, he is the only individual at REIS that was able to complete required documentation for the closing. We were informed he was out of town for almost two weeks, pushing back the closing date multiple times. As a former business owner myself, I always had to have a back up if I was out of town. This ensures customer satisfaction which in turn builds trust with your business. Our attorney began contacting REIS the day after the contract was signed. There was no response. Both the buyer and seller's attorneys as well as the lender for the buyer, and the real estate agents worked diligently to complete the transaction. Nothing could be completed until Charles completed the necessary documentation appropriately. One simple document was not completed correctly. We even contacted the condo board to see if there was something the President of the Board could to to expedite the closure, without success. The sale of this unit had multiple delays due solely to Charles' negligence. In addition to the frustration felt by the seller and buyer, who was ready to walk away from the sale, the multiple delays and inability to have another employee complete simple paperwork, cost both the buyer and seller thousands of dollars, in additional fees. We spent at least $3000 more to close on this unit strictly due to his negligence. The required document requested from the lender was a standard inquiry required by lenders. We attempted every avenue to get this property closed in a timely manner, without success. It is a shame that the owner of a management company is unable to delegate someone in the office to assist with responsibilities when he is out of town. I know that this is a multigenerational company, and it is disheartening that Charles is unable to conduct business honoring his families name.

Miller tells you to make a portal request (that also goes ignored). They ended up blocking my number when I simply asked for my parking remote deposit back. It has been over a month since the end of my lease, and they never returned my money. Only after I posted a Google review, they said the parking remote was broken. How would I have moved my car out of a gated parking spot without a functioning remote? When living there, I had dirty water filling up my sink and overflowing onto the wooden floors due to a plumbing issue related to another unit in the building. It took Miller two weeks to send a plumber to fix the issue. I was putting towels down to avoid damage to the floors but the water was non-stop. I was washing my dishes in the tub for two weeks. As seen in the attached photos, I warned them that there would be inevitable water damage from this. I quickly noticed the water damage due to their delay in fixing the plumbing issue. I documented this in the portal with pictures. The portal request, texts, calls and emails went unanswered for months. When I finally got ahold of Andrea Miller on the phone, she told me that the water damage was my fault! She told me to contact my renters insurance, saying the repair was my responsibility! When I demanded flooring contractors to inspect the damage, the contractors laughed and said this was fully the responsibility of Miller management. The damage to my flooring was fixed TEN MONTHS after the plumbing issue. My rent was even raised during this time. See photos attached with dates to het a glimpse of how you will be ignored as a tenant. My lease over October 31st, and when I contacted them to return my deposit for the parking remote/ keys that I returned, they BLOCKED my number! Avoid this management nightmare at all costs.

I'm a current current resident, I don't typically write reviews, but this might be the only way to…read moreget any kind of response from this company. Communication with this leasing company is virtually nonexistent. They don't provide usable contact information--just a single phone number that leads to an automated message directing you to the resident portal, where they don't respond or resolve any inquiries submitted there. The phone line doesn't accept voicemails, and it simply disconnects. When I tried finding the "emergency phone line" listed in my lease, it didn't exist. Maintenance issues are similarly ignored. Residents are told to submit requests through the portal, but my requests went unanswered until I called repeatedly. Even then, the issues remain unresolved. The address wasn't registered as a residential location with any internet providers when I moved in, leaving me with no way to set up Wi-Fi and no updates from the company on what was going on. Upon move-in, the unit was unfinished, with missing trim, uninstalled wall hooks, missing lightbulbs, and an entryway stairway that remains incomplete. Sawdust and dirt from construction were also left behind. None of these issues have been addressed. I asked them to confirm in writing that the unfinished trim wouldn't result in move-out charges, but they've ignored me. Key aspects of the signed lease have also been blatantly violated. My unit includes a storage space, but I've not been assigned one or given a key. The stove was non-functional when I moved in--also a clear violation of the lease. Despite reporting this immediately, submitting multiple requests, and even threatening legal action citing renters' rights, the company has done nothing. I still don't have a working oven. There are additional unresolved issues, including: - I was promised a key fob for front door access, which I still haven't received. - I have no instructions on how to set up the call box for guest access. - I don't know where the residential mailboxes are, nor do I have a key to access it. As a result, I have no idea where my mail is being delivered. - Dumpster and recycling access is through a back door that locks behind you. I haven't been given a key to re-enter through that door. This company's lack of communication, accountability, and follow-through is astonishing. Every time I manage to reach someone, they either have no answers or pass the buck. Dealing with them feels like talking to a brick wall. At this point, I just want my questions and issues to be resolved. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.

The York Brook apartments are an awesome place to live. I've been here since Feb of 14' and have…read morefew complaints when it comes to the buildings, amenities, and the staff itself. The residents, however, that is always a different story, of which most shouldn't be concerned, which I will explain below. Pros: Maintenance is awesome. They're VERY organized, and they respond promptly. If I could rate just the maintenance staff they would receive 5+. They're so helpful and kind, but keep in mind they're busy too. Just a few weeks ago I watched them give one of our residents a jump right in front of my apartment, all the maintenance man asked was to pass along the favor. The first time I've seen anything like this from any apartment staff, not to mention no charge for it. (In the winter, the maint. STAFF is ON TOP of keeping the lots clean of snow. Unfortunately that limits their ability to respond to minor calls, but I can understand that being a big priority) They have swimming pools, a tennis court AND a gym. Out of the three, I've only used the gym. Now this gym isn't state of the art or anything, but they have machines to work on every muscle of your body, and they all work rather well. Landscape. The landscape here is beautiful. They recently had a crew come in and take care of the landscape around the entire complex. Flowers and all, the outside is quite attractive and kept up well. Notices. The front office lets you know well in advance when something is going to happen. Just this year I believe all the residents received 3 notices. One being that the parking lots were going to be worked on, and that we needed to move our vehicles along X roads. Another was ComEd coming in to change our light bulbs to CFL's. The most recent one was to stripe the parking lot and remove all dead trees. We were warned well in advance, and had plenty of time to prepare for the event. The front office is prompt. We had an issue with one of our neighbors being loud with their bass all throughout the day/evening. After calling police twice, we decided to call the front office. They were quick, and prompt. Made a courtesy call to those we complained about, and there hadn't been issues since. Dishwashers. I had a very hard time finding a place that had dishwashers in their units. They work really well here, and I enjoy having them. (The water stays hot during the whole wash, you'll understand why I needed to say this when you read the cons) Electric heaters. They work WONDERFUL in the winter. The thermostats aren't perfect, so you need to learn what setting to keep it at to keep a comfortable temperature. Most residents here are respectful and keep to themselves, but are willing to lend a hand should you ask. People are just trying to live their lives, and that's one thing I like about the community here. Hallways. They are kept VERY clean. One of the staff runs a vacuum down the hallways every day (Even Sat and Sun) to keep the halls clean. I love this, and really appreciate them making an effort to keep the place in a decent condition. Cons: Hot water heaters. I would like to warn you now, the electric hot water heaters here are only 30 gallon tanks, there's one in every single unit. The hot water will pour into the bathtub for 5-10 minutes and stay luke warm afterwards. However, when I go to take a shower, the water stays hot for a good 45 minutes before it becomes luke warm. Parking. There's not much space to park after 10:30PM. These lots do become full. There's not much the complex can do about it, they already limit vehicles 1 per person listed on a lease (Two people in a unit means two vehicles). Water. The water here really depends on the building you reside in. It's based on how many people are in your unit/how much water is used throughout the entire building. The water comes to around $40-$50/month in the summer. The big kicker is, they use a company called AUM (I'm not sure if they have a choice). There's a $7.50 fee just to pay your bill online. It's ridiculous, and I wish this could be changed. I don't mind the sharing water bill with the entire building as much as I mind the company we're paying our water towards. Look them up on Yelp, you'll see their terrible reviews. Sound. Now, I can't really call this a big complaint. I can speak pretty loud and you couldn't hear it down the hallway. However, when someone above you is taking a tinkle, you may hear it and the flush. Other than that, sound quality is pretty good. Other Notes: There is no gas bill. I LOOKED and LOOKED for this when I was planning to move. I figured I would make mention of someone that may be looking to know. Nothing here uses gas (Maybe the dryers in the facility), so there is NO gas bill. Cats only. I know, this may be unfortunate for some and potentially a deal breaker. It's an effort to keep the place and landscape clean. No monthly pet rent either. One time fee.
