Of course he knows the price he should quote. ... Starts off insanely high ... Customer says no, ... He asks how much you wanted to pay, pretends to calculate a discount on his phone, complete with facial expressions. ... Comes up with excuses for how he can discount. Want to keep the guys working, "end of winter" etc. ... Keeps coming down with various fake calculations/justifications. 3) I had a reason why I wanted an immediate install and signed the deal but carefully scrutinizing every line of the contract. The rep measured my gutters in minutes and claimed the job could be completed in one day. Had the "guaranteed" product installed few years ago. Now noticed apparent leak in a little used corner closet. (Don't know how long it was there but after discovering and cleaning it my house still smells of mildew). Called them to set up appointment re: "warranty". I schedule an appointment in which I am told a date and time that is "first available". Make the appointment. During the time before the scheduled appointment I get two separate calls from service wanting to change the appointment - one wanted it changed to immediately; and the other wanted to change it to the upcoming Saturday. (Had already told them weekends were out due to family obligations). We agreed to leave the original appointment time & date in place. Day of appointment arrives - no call saying they were on their way during the entire 5 hour "service" window. They totally missed the window and still no call! Understandable that stuff happens; but to not even call to acknowledge they won't keep the appointment time & date they selected? Now comes the next day where company's main line wants to shunt me to "customer service" before even letting me finish speaking. By this time - I'm a little annoyed. Hour later called the service line again - where once again operator won't listen. I'm, understandably - I think - irritated & get a little loud. This guy at least let's me finish before saying he will contact local office responsible for in person service. I just finished with a salesman from LeafFilter who came here to pitch me on their gutter covers. The product has a good reputation, but the sales organization is not one I'd deal with. He initially quoted me $7,500 financed, and then said I could have it for $6,500 cash. This seemed very high, and I told him I'd talk to my banker and get back to him. Immediately he goes into the high pressure "what's it gonna take for you to decide" act that's made me walk out of a lot of car dealerships. Finally he quotes me $2,300, and says what do you say about that? Had he quoted me $2,300 initially I would have taken the offer. What I told him was "what I say is that you were dicking me around with those other prices. I'll let you know tomorrow." He said no, this price is for right now. Tomorrow it's $6,500." I said in that case we're done, as I don't do business like that. He drove off angrily. I wonder how many gullible people paid $7,500? I'd still buy the product- but not from him. read more

We have several large oak trees in our front yard, and I absolutely hate climbing a ladder and cleaning the gutters 2 or three times each year. A couple years ago I installed DIY gutter covers, which were better than nothing. They lasted until we had a new roof installed and the roofers decided to bend them upwards rather than remove them. It ruined them, and it took us a couple months of negotiation with the roofing company to get reimbursed. Fast forward to now. I decided that I didn't want to climb the ladder, remove the damaged DIY covers, and replace them with another DIY cover. I checked around, and found Leaf Filter. After looking at their system, it's clear that what they offer is several levels above the average DIY system, and superior to other products that are marketed to the non-DIYer. First off, they're solidly built. With a mesh screen backed by a PVC cover, there's zero chance any debris will get into the gutters, and that was my primary goal. Not only is the system solid, but they did quite a bit of work to the original, 30+ year old gutter so that it would support the Leaf Filter system, and they completely cleaned and resealed the gutters as well. When looked at it realistically, the price wasn't unreasonable for the value, service, and product received. It took an installer 4 hours to do the front of our home. It worked out to about $38/foot, and that pays for the installers time and the materials, and also his equipment, insurance, overhead, and other misc. items (which in this economy, ain't cheap!), as well as the sales commission. For that amount I expected a high degree of professionalism, and I received exactly what I had hoped for. The sales person was prompt and professional, the installer arrived exactly on time, and I was very happy with the professional installation, especially when I factored in that I didn't have to climb a ladder myself. I had leaf and filter give me a quote for new gutters and they were originally $2000 over the other estimate I had and they offered to beat that quote and I agreed! They installed the new gutters a few days later. Well I had several leaks! They sent someone out and they said a few spots needed to be recaulked, it rained that same day and had the same issue! They sent another guy out and he said the same thing! And again I didn't fix my issue! I climbed the latter to check myself and found the gutters were install over the drip edge! They sent someone to fix it but he only fixed one spot! So after being installed it took 4 other service calls to get it fixed properly! Got an estimate of $10,800 for a 2,000 Sq Ft home. I said it was way too high and that I have someone clean my gutters every year for $200 and that the $10,800 would be equal to 53 years of having someone clean them every year. Salesman then said he was able to give out a once per week special discount and dropped the quote to $5,000. I said it was way too much. He dropped it again to $4,200. Asked what I thought and I told him the same thing ... I said at that price I could pay someone to clean them for 21 years. I added that I did not want to insult him but wanted to know what his bottom line was. I finally said perhaps $3,500 would do it. I also said that I usually get three estimates on any job ... He said he gave me 4 estimates because he showed me competitors products with what he said they would charge. I said those are not estimates and he only gave me one ... he said "Yes they are four estimates" First insult. He said if I did not get the Leaf Filter I could get a damaged fascia. If 10' of Fascia gets damaged I would need to replace the entire fascia around the house. I said that was not true, you would only need to replace the 10' of damaged fascia per his hypothetical. He said I was wrong. Second insult. He asked if I would really pay the $3,500 I mentioned and I replied YES and did he doubt my offer as genuine. He said he did not believe me. Third insult. Told me the $4,200 would be no profit for him but perhaps get him a golf outing at the end of the year for sales points. I asked him how many times he would take me golfing if I had agreed to the $10,800 original starting point. I have had a mixed experience with the Leaf Filter team to look at rengineering my existing gutter system and adding leaf filter. The salesman that did the estimate for my gutters did an okay job, but the design recommendations he provided turned out to be not enough to do the job, and that resulted in my having to have them come back and add a supplemental installation at my expense the supplemental job mechanics were not explained to me. A critical part of the initial sale was the use of financing through leaf filter, which, the company was not willing to apply to the supplemental work for the initial job. They use Wells Fargo as a third-party financer and do not have "all the kinks" worked out according to their billing department. The GM explained to me that they don't have the ability to charge Wells Fargo on a credit line for a service job, but he also drove home the point that they did not want to pay the sales and finance expense of doing it. The work installation was generally competent, but the design accountability breakdown that led to my having to have them come back, in spite of my telling them specifically the concerns for the water flow (and showing them a video), and my having to finance the additional work (which I agreed to pay for, not self-finance was very frustrating. They took no accountability for that difference. I would encourage you to shop the leaf filter experience if you are financing through them, be very thorough as there are alternatives in the marketplace. read more

This review is only based on the customer service from the sales person who came to our home, since we didn't even have a chance to say if we wanted the product or not. Let me start by saying price was important to us. But aside from pricing, we look for honesty and quality when purchasing products. We also had plans to get quotes from other companies, so making a decision on the spot was not going to happen from the beginning. Enter Salesman Todd; He seemed a little flustered but still nice when he arrived. The first sentence that came out of his mouth was "this was going to be expensive so get ready to kick me out after you hear the price!" He performed his sales pitch and we humored him by listening to his numerous jokes about how much money leaffilter costs. When we finally came to the price estimate, it was super high, before he started adding random discounts. When my husband said we weren't making a decision today, that's when the switch completely flipped on Todd's attitude and demeanor! He became defensive and told us we clearly don't understand what he's telling us about the product. He said the only reason we were not moving forward was because of price... which is offensive. I still had questions which he refused to answer because, in his words, "we already told him no." He also refused to give me a business card because, in his words, "statistically people never call after he leaves so he doesn't hand them out." (Umm why do you THINK no one calls again? If you start yelling and offending customers, why would they call you??) He proceeded to pack up his car and breath heavily while we simply stood and watched in aw. He also told us "we didn't have to look so pi**ed" (in front of our 3 yr old, who was with us during his visit). We couldn't beleive how this grown man was acting, especially when he's supposed to be providing a service. Why say your price is good for up to a year, if you're telling customers they have to buy now? Just tell us the price is good for today. Be honest! To recap, his price started at over $13k, it changed four different times (two times once his desperation came through), his final price was $3,900. A price difference of $9k from beginning to end????!!! Needless to say we don't have a solid estimate to compare to other companies. And for the record, we did not tell him we weren't interested. The product actually seems good. Unfortunately, even if we want to go with leaffilter, we feel that we cannot. Todd made it clear that we will never be calling back... and he seemed to be pushing us into never wanting anything to do with leaffilter. This happened two days ago and I'm still offended when I think back to some things he said. I wish leaffilter would follow up with potential customers to see how appointments went. But maybe now we know the reason they don't. :-( read more

I imagine these might work well in maybe Arizona but in my experience, here in Michigan, these are horrible. My 1st issue was after the first snow fall. The mesh screen instantly froze and in essence, rendered the gutters non-existent. Over the next couple of days as the snow melted, the water run off dripped constantly over the gutters creating ruts in the landscape surrounding my building. This also put all the water directly adjacent to the foundation. The dirt splashed all over the building and an 8x16 porch area. The water in front of the walkway then froze creating a slip hazzard. Leaffilter says they work perfectly and will not remove them or refund my money. In the past week we had some harder rainfall and the water coming off the roof, skipped over the screens and cascaded into the yard. Probably not a huge issue but the point is this. These only work at my house in warm weather and light rain. I could get the same result by just removing the gutters entirely. No clogging and the same rain performance. Complete scam. Product is cheap vinyl with cloth like steel screen that does rust. Sales pressure is ridiculous and pricing is just stupid. They produce this product themselves for what 20 cents a foot and sell it for 35 a foot? Field assembled. Screen isn't crimped or held in it's just slid in by installer. Installers have no idea what they are doing and cause damage themselves. Roofs reach temps of 160 F and vinyl WILL start to lose shape, and buckle when cools off, screen pops out, without surface tension holes are too small to even take in water and you get a waterfall. They billed my credit card without completing everything installer said he would do. It's no coincidence that this company has a two-star overall rating. Do you like working with used car dealers? Then this is the place for you. If you work for or with upscale businesses, you will not be accustomed to their practices. If they have an advertised deal/discount, and you ask if one is available, they don't need to tell you, and they won't. You will not get the discount unless you learn about it ahead of time on your own. Again, they will not tell you, and they will not do the right thing by you in good faith. I have received refunds from Target/Meijer and the like after learning of a deal subsequent to purchase. Leaf Filter does not play by those rules, being the lesser business model. The manager, when contacted, could not have been more dismissive or unprofessional. Low-level business composure reflects upon the company as a whole. When contacting the company, no one returns your call, and if you do get someone, the number of excuses is off amazing. In my instance we paid roughly $32/ft for 30Ft of covering (one corner), my coworker was charged $15/ft for 120ft of covering. This product is a complete waste of time and money if I could rate lower than one star I would. We first heard about them at arts beats and eats. I had one very important question for them. I asked them if the product ever caused ice dams, both of the guys at the booth immediately said no we haven't had any issues with them at all. That should have been a red flag for me, but I was hopeful that their product would prevent me from climbing on the roof. We set up an appointment for them to give us a quote. Alan came out and measured everything up and he showed us pictures of everything they did. I asked him again about ice dams. He told me the product was developed in a northern state where they get a lot of snow, and told no he hadn't heard them causing ice dams. He was at our house for about 3 hours he had said if we didn't get them now we would lose the discount. The whole thing was a very high pressure sales pitch. Stupidly we went for it. We had them put on in the fall. Fast forward to winter, I come out of my house look at the roof and low and behold I see ice dams, something that I was told specifically would not happen. I call the company and ask to speak to someone about it. They say they will get someone out to assess the situation. When the guy comes out and looks at the house he says I can't do this job, I need more people and more time ( there was only one guy that installed it in a few hours originally). He leaves and I don't hear anything back from the company until a week later. They send another person out, just one and he said the pitch is wrong it was laying flat. He angles it and leaves saying that that should fix our problem. Fast forward another year to winter again. I come out of my house to find more ice dams after being assured that the problem was taken care of. I am livid. Steam coming out of my ears. I call the company to tell them about it again hoping to hear that they are sorry this happened. Boy was I wrong. I talked to Derek the regional manager, he was not helpful in the slightest. I politely told him that we had never had ice dams before this product was installed and that I wanted to remove it and possibly get some sort of compensation back considering that I was told multiple times that it wouldn't cause ice dams. He wasn't hearing any of it he just told me that if there are ice dams now there must have been ice dams before and that it must be the ventilation and insulation of our house, even though the only thing that has changed is that we have LeafFilter gutter guards. All he offered was for them to be removed and stored on our property. I asked to talk to someone higher up and he told me that was the owner and that the owner would back him. All the decisions are Derek's. He does not want to keep the customer happy or work with us in any way. This product is not suitable for a snowy location stay away!!! Spent about 20 minutes measuring the house and then went into his sales pitch. He seemed put out out when I said my wife wouldn't be joining us for the presentation. My take from the presentation: - incredibly high priced, price was triple what I had been quoted from another gutter installer. - very high pressure, need an answer today. When you resist the price gets lower but you have to commit that day. When I finally told him he wasn't getting an answer that day he pretty much packed up and left in a huff. - the product seemed good and if I never had to clean a gutter again I'd consider paying the price but after he left I found tons of reviews that said the screen system clogs easily and has to be cleaned twice a year, pretty much defeating the purpose of having the thing. I found this company at the State fair by walking by their booth. They called to schedule a time for an estimate, when we decided on a time they asked when would be a good time for my husband to be there because they like both homeowners there... first of all, they had no idea if the house belonged to me or not. I thought that to be very rude, as if a woman couldn't own a home on her own? Second, the salesman was pleasant at first but after being quoted a ridiculous price ($3000) for only our upper level (our lower level already has gutter guards installed) and realized we were not making a decision that day, he packed up his stuff and had an attitude when leaving. High pressure sales never works on me and I feel it is a bad way to conduct business. When making a big purchase people need time to consider it. Also, to the scheduling person who asked for my husband to be there...bad decision. He takes weeks to make a decision...I only take a day or so. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!! This product is horrible, it does not work in MI winter and the company knows that; just see the reviews on Angie's list. I wish I saw those comments before we installed the gutter protection. It freezes in the winter, then the water overflows and everything around the house is soaked. We asked the company to uninstalled it and they ignored us. We had 2 service calls in the first month it was installed in December of 2017, their own technician said the system would not work with our roof configuration (I hope they did not fire the guy). They company came twice, then on light rainy day and "concluded" the gutter protection was installed properly. I don't know if it is or not, I am not a technician but the product does not work in the winter time. In addition, they finance through Wells Fargo who backs them up; horrible company and Wells Fargo should discontinue relationship with LeafFilter as it is a bad press for the bank too. Neither deserve even one star. I also submitted a complaint with the BBB. I hope my review will save you all a lot of money and time by not dealing with LeafFilter. read more
