There was no clear explanation of what supports were attempted, nor any meaningful effort to collaborate with our family before making that decision. What made this experience even more upsetting was the behavior of the program's owner, Sharon. She was extremely unprofessional and spoke about my son, including making comments about his face, as if he were not present. As a parent, that was both disrespectful and deeply hurtful--especially considering my son's diagnosis. In addition, when I requested a written explanation outlining why my son was no longer allowed to attend, she refused to provide one. A program that claims to support children should be able to communicate clearly and respectfully with families, especially in situations like this. Families of children with additional needs deserve transparency, compassion, and a genuine commitment to inclusion. Unfortunately, that was not our experience here. I strongly encourage other parents to ask detailed questions about how children with diverse needs are supported before enrolling.

So, when they get to the usual "school age", we all have to trust the teachers to continue the hard work that we have done since day 1. When I started looking into schools, I was very unimpressed by the selection that I had. I had toured 4 schools in the Fort Wayne area and not one stuck out to me. They were all the run of the mill, boring, mundane schools that focused on just getting through the day instead of really challenging the children... until I found Pine Hill. Just looking at their website got me excited! The amazing trips they went on, including meeting the mayor, visiting the historic Nickel Plate 765 steam engine, touring the art scene located in downtown Fort Wayne, all things I would LOVE to do as an adult! Every year they put on plays and many types of performances, which as SO dang cute and very well put together. Also, they are bilingual, all teachers are fluent in Spanish and they teach the children the children in both languages, making it so all the kids are fluent in both. Which is a GREAT skill to have (and great for resumes!) The student-teacher ratio is the best that I've come across in my search, making it so they get to know every student as an individual, which aides in their teaching style because they know what works and what doesn't for each student. Pine Hill is a great school, I am so grateful for the way they have helped my children grow and learn.

I know the word "control" sounds strange, but this is the word the administrator used when my nephew was drinking one of the employees hot coffee that continued to be placed on the children's table in the 2 year olds classroom. She stated she told the employees to keep their coffee out of the childrens reach, but they were not doing it. My neice had this conversation only after CPS contacted her because another parent reported her son and a list of other children drinking coffee, in addition to many other issues. This is a terrible environment for children who can not speak for themselves. Before enrolling your child, please contact the Fort Wayne CPS office for a list of complaints. I am shocked they are still in business!
