Prior to Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep, my younger brother struggled with reading. Despite…read moretrying out several methods, nothing seemed to work for him as his teacher informed me that he would only answer 2 out of 38 questions correctly during his mock STAAR reading tests. During that time, he would take up the whole day whereas everyone else completed their assessments within 4 hours. Fortunately, my mother and I found Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep on Thumbstack. Chris was very quick at responding back to my emails. Within a few days, he introduced us to India. She served as my younger brother's tutor for a month up until the day before the actual STAAR reading test. Within the first meeting, she assessed my brother and determined how many hours per week he required to gain maximum help. During the tutoring sessions, she tried her very best to make it fun and interactive for my brother to learn new reading and writing skills. She also communicated with the teacher in order to accommodate her lessons with his reading performance in school. Within the third week, he successfully answered 27 out of 38 questions correctly during another mock STAAR reading test. While going over his exam, I noticed all the analytical notes my brother took alongside each reading passage. He then proceeded to tell me how they greatly helped him answer the more difficult questions. Overall, there were several aspects that I greatly liked about Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep: 1. Chris informed my mother and I about the financial matters behind their services prior to the first session with India 2. India always informed me whenever she was running late and always made up by staying in a few minutes extra 3. Compared to the more expensive tutoring services in Houston, their prices made it easier for my mother to afford additional tutoring sessions with India 4. My mother and I found it very convenient that they offer at-home tutoring sessions. India provided consistent tutoring sessions that worked well around our schedules 5. India usually supplied additional homework that further helped my brother gain reading tactics necessary to pass the STAAR test 6. Everyone from Planting Seeds Tutoring & Test Prep are very professional and courteous. Even though we are not currently utilizing their services, they are more than willing to help out my brother during the remainder of the school year and beyond! We are currently anticipating my brother's actual STAAR reading results from TEA. We're truly hoping their services aided my brother in attaining a passing grade!

Veritas Prep was a great tool to use to study for the GMAT. I took the full, 7 week course, 2x/week…read morefor 3 hours each session. I took the course in May, and took the GMAT in June scoring a 580. My quant score improved dramatically from my first practice test (37% first test? 50% actual GMAT percentile). My instructor, Kristine Dugan, was excellent at communicating the concepts to us, and the class size actually was only me and one other student. This private setting allowed us one-on-one attention with the instructor. Kristine was incredibly helpful and encouraging, and extremely intelligent. She kept the lessons light-hearted and we even got in some laughs (yes, during GMAT studying!). I would highly recommend her and the Veritas book set was great. I got a perfect score of 6 out of 6 on my essay, solely by following the Veritas formula for writing essays. If I decide to re-take my GMAT (when I'm not working full-time and taking finals) I have the books, online tests, and free help ready for me if i'm ready to take it on again. Excellent program!

At both Hyde Park and Wells Branch, Ms. Brenda and Ms. Jennifer played a huge role in our boys' lives. They created an environment where our children felt safe, supported, and excited to learn every day. When our family faced difficult seasons, they showed us incredible kindness and flexibility, helping provide stability for our children when we needed it most. At the Round Rock AW Grimes campus, Liz continued that same tradition of excellence. My family was part of the INIC community for nearly four years. I sent both of my daughters there…read moreas infants and previously left a 5-star review. I would have enthusiastically recommended this school. Today, I cannot. The issue is not the teachers. The teachers have been exceptional and are the reason so many families choose this school. Despite years of tuition increases and persistent concerns from teachers and families, the school has not made the investments necessary to retain them. In early March alone, at least 7 teachers left or announced their departures--nearly 20% of the teaching staff by parents' count. Both of my daughters experienced unexpected teacher departures in their classrooms during that same period. For young children, teachers are not interchangeable. They are trusted caregivers and a critical source of stability. When teachers leave, children lose important relationships and families are left helping them navigate yet another transition. During enrollment, families are told classrooms are staffed with a lead teacher, an assistant teacher, and additional flex staff available for coverage. In reality, my oldest daughter's classroom frequently operated at the legal minimum ratio of one teacher for fifteen four-year-olds. Multiple current and former teachers described being unable to reliably use sick days, vacation days, or even take basic bathroom breaks because there was often insufficient coverage available. When a school is staffed so leanly that teachers struggle to meet basic human needs during the day, it raises serious questions about how well both teachers and students are being supported. Teachers reported compensation in the $14-$17/hour range despite bilingual education being one of the school's primary differentiators. Comparable non-bilingual childcare positions in Austin often advertise higher wages. The result is predictable: teachers leave. Children lose stability. Families absorb the consequences. Demand for bilingual childcare in Austin far exceeds supply, and many families have few realistic alternatives once enrolled. Given that reality--and given that tuition has continued to increase year after year--I expected a greater commitment to investing in the teachers and staffing stability that families are ultimately paying for. Parents who attempted to ask questions and advocate for improvements--including efforts to reestablish the PTA--often received little to no response. While our family's relationship with the school ultimately ended following disagreements with leadership about these issues, the concerns described here are based on nearly four years of experience and conversations with numerous current and former teachers and families. The teachers are the school's greatest strength. The challenge is whether the school will make the investments necessary to retain them long enough to provide the stability and continuity that young children deserve.

Ms. Amaiya has been outstanding with our daughter while she was in Toddler B. Our daughter loves her so much so that now that she has moved on from her class, she will still sometimes refuse to enter the new class unless Ms. Amaiya is there. She has been so great that she'll often at times help take her in the morning until her current teacher is available to get her. We are extremely grateful for her! Currently, our daughter is in Ms. Stephanie's class and she loves and trusts her as well. Ms. Stephanie has been incredible and is always available to give us updates on our daughter's potty training. She encourages her all the time to do things on her own and she's been so crucial for us in helping us potty train our daughter. The front desk of TLE has been amazing as well! Ms. Jessica and her team have done an amazing job and really have given a lot of consistency to the facility that we felt was lacking for a while. Seeing Ms. Jessica's and Ms. Phoenix's faces in the morning always lights up our daughter's face. We are moving away soon and won't be able to send our daughter here. We will truly miss the staff and all they have done for our daughter. They have made such a big impact on our daughter's and our lives and we hope we've made a lasting impression as well.

I get a call from daycare stating my child had slapped a teacher at 4:50pm during nap time. On…read morethe way home, I explained to my child we do not hit teachers. That is not a nice thing to do. We keep our hands to yourself. Well then my daughter proceeds to tell me the teacher squeezed me and it hurt my heart. When she tells me this she sounded sad and hurt. I went into panic mode asking what does that mean? Like you couldn't breathe or were you in pain? I said when we get home, demonstrate to me and your dad what happen. Well we get home and ask more questions, she said momma sit down, I sit down and she sits in between my legs. She said momma push your legs together like this. She said squeeze me, that's what the teacher did to me. So I said did it hurt? she said yes my heart. So when I dropped her off I told the director, I need a meeting. She asked is everything ok, I said yes and no. I didn't want to give her too much info because I didn't want to lose camera footage. They are known to lose footage or they can not play it back. We have our meeting the next day. I explained to her what happened and told her I want to see the cameras. She explains they are live streamed and aren't able to play it back. So happen the area manager was there. I said what do you mean you can't play them back and so what is the point of having them? So she takes me to the area manager to explain the process of the cameras. She asked what do I want to see. I said a teacher squeezed my daughter and she asked for the teachers name. We go over what happened. They explain I understand if I was in your shoes I would be a concerned parent too and I don't think that teacher would do that. I know you and your family have been here since ******* was a baby. Our priority is to make sure your child is safe but we also want to advocate for our teachers too. They tried to reassure me but it didn't work. The director writes my statement, stated they would question the teacher and get her statement, then they would turn this into licensing, licensing would then investigate the school and then licensing would reach out to me to question the situation. They said in the mean time we will keep this teacher and your daughter in separate rooms. I'm still upset because my child has been here since she was 6 months old and it was like they didn't care. At that point my child turned into a number. We wrap up the meeting. My daughter wanted to go home with her dad, so we go get her things and as we are walking out, my daughter points to the wall and said that's the teacher that squeezed me. Mind you she is on the wall for teacher of the month. So I told myself submit the situation yourself. So I go on the website for daycare abuse and submitted a report. Well when I submitted it, I didn't get a confirmation email or anything. So I find out licensing came to daycare but no one was telling me anything. So then I go back to state website and call the 800 number. That same day licensing reaches out to me. We are talking and she's asking questions. She says something that triggers that she is going off my report. I said what? I said wait you didn't get a report from daycare, she said no. I receive this from an online report. I said you came on Monday and I asked them if you came. They were acting like they submitted the report like they were helping. They didn't want to report this because they were already under an investigation. At that point before I had talked to licensing something told me to pull my daughter out and I did. I went in to get a document signed and the director says Brie's not here, is she coming tomorrow, I said nope and then she asked is she coming Friday? I said nope and she then say is she coming back at all and I said nope. She said did you tell anyone. I said I was getting to that. I said my daughter will not be back and she then hands me the withdrawal form. I signed the form and left. I wasn't going to keep my daughter here. The trust from this facility was gone after they didn't report to licensing, my daughter would say she hated this school or she was scared to go in. I couldn't do it. She had went through 5-6 teachers alone in preschool. She doesn't even acknowledge the school when we pass it. That should tell you something. She use to say that's my school. Trust me, it hurt to make that decision because she also had friends she grew up with since they were 6 months old but I did not feel safe leaving her there with her comments.

The themes that were discussed where customized based on what I hope to accomplish. I also enjoyed that this structure provided opportunities to practice a little Spanish a few days a week and then have an immersive discussion one-on-one with Dominque. In early October I decided to go to Merida Mexico and we created a second course structure that focused on the types of interactions I could experience on my trip. It was incredibly helpful in that I was able to "situationalize" my Spanish when interacting with the locals. This allowed be to navigate restaurant experiences, asking for directions throughout the city, plan a trip to another city, and fully engaging in a story-telling show completely in Spanish. For me learning Spanish is about connecting with the culture and community and while I still have a long way to go, i felt my time with Dominique served me well in having a great experience. One particularly fun interaction was when I purchased a painting in Merida and met the artist who spoke no English. As we spoke - he stopped and asked me where I was from and I said the US. He commented - no before that; your Spanish doesn't sound like an American. It felt great and I credit that with my sessions with Dominique.

She is a truly special teacher who you can tell loves language and knows so much about it's history (and film!). One time she taught our class with the begins of what turned out to be laryngitis (over Zoom of course) because she wanted to make sure we had class. And it was as perfect of a class as every night! So thoughtful of her students schedules. She's amazing and really makes for a joyful experience. It can be a bit intimidating, especially as a beginner, but the curriculum makes you feel comfortable! Doesn't throw you in the deep end too early. Classes right now are over Zoom which is perfect with Covid. I took a class previously with Deirde in person, pre covid, and I think the zooms today are just as good (and so much easier on working parents!) Also the class size is small (5‐6) so you get to know your classmates and lots of opportunity to pratice what you're learning. The class is structured to be lots of talking that is guided by Deidre and the written lessons. You do your reading and written work as homework every week on your own. One bonus is that she also gives you lots of fun recommendations of things to try in your spare time: games with music videos, other lessons to watch on youtube, things to listen to in your car if you're stuck in traffic.

Plus, Deidre tailors the discussions to things she's learned about us personally, for instance asking how our dogs are, or whether a new job is interesting. Between classes, the written lessons introduce subjects at the perfect pace, and with explanations that only a native speaker or linguist can provide. Often, we learn how a word or phrase is different between different Spanish-speaking countries. This is something subtle that apps on your phone just can't do. When I get stuck and can't quite understand a tricky concept, she finds different ways to explain it until I get it. She referred a professional colleague of hers to record the music piece and he came out to her studio and met with me and her to ensure my vocal rendition would be perfect. I have one week left in my Beginning 1A French class with Freestyle Languages and feel like I've already learned more than I did in all of high school. I am able to talk about myself, the weather, what I like and don't like to eat, the sports I play, my hobbies - how cool is that? My ultimately dream of becoming fluent in French and moving to Paris doesn't seem out of reach anymore. If you're wanting to learn another language, I HIGHLY recommend Freestyle Languages.

I don't live…read morein Austin, but I was aware of Freestyle through an Instagram account they run (@frenchphraseoftheday), and checked them out after they started offering virtual classes because of covid. I had a pretty large vocabulary but really wanted to improve my speaking and understanding of different tenses. I've gotten both of those things and a lot more. We're about halfway through the semester and I'm already sad at the thought of it being over!! My teacher, Gloria, is patient and encouraging, and I really like the other students. My speaking has gotten a LOT better and more colloquial. The classes are held twice a week with an optional practice "café" on Saturdays. Every week is focused on a different theme: food, giving directions, etc. The classes are on Zoom, which means there is the occasional technical glitch, but mostly they run smoothly. The only drawback is that it's clear some of the fun events they now have to hold virtually, like movie screenings and happy hour, just aren't the same online. But I'm glad I get to attend them at all, because I couldn't if they were held in person. It's been a lot of fun and I look forward to every class and conversation.

I found that being in a group class setting was frustrating for me, having to go at the pace of the slowest learning student. With a private tudor I am able to go at my pace and have the lesson taylored to me by Gwen and how she sees my progression going. When I went to France last fall, my language skill really made my experience so much more personable and exciting. Being able to communicate with the locals was great!
