I have been to many institutions where professional development is held. Most are cold, clinical places with nothing to stare out the window at (while trying desperately to escape mentally) besides a parking lot, if even there are windows. Region 13 is definitely not one of those. Nestled in a greenbelt off 51st St and Springdale Rd, the campus is lovely. When you walk in the large foyer, your mind full of dread at spending your precious summer hours here, you are greeted by a staffer who kindly directs you to your meeting room. If you're lucky, it'll be one of the rooms on the 2nd floor with windows overlooking the greenbelt. Each area of classrooms has a lobby, which has a coffee bar, which is constantly being freshened as the day goes on. The furniture is comfortable (a huge deal when you're basically sitting upon your arse all day), and the staff goes out of it's way to make sure everyone has all props needed to make each workshop successful. There's a cafe in an adjoining building, which is just "meh," but it ain't bad, in case you don't have time to pop over to Manor Rd for lunch. All in all, a pleasant place to have to be.

She went on a HUGE tirade against me for asking what restaurants in the area do not allow dine-in but are still doing to-go. She described me as selfish for accommodating my housemates, one of which is very high risk for complications if they catch covid, and the other works at a school where they will not let you work if anyone you have been around shows any signs of sickness, and they would have to get a covid test before they could go back to work. She would not stop attacking me, even after I explained and asked her politely to stop, it was quite disturbing to see, and I would not suggest anyone use her services for any reason. I also noticed that she has a complaint filed against her and her company with the BBB.

Second, I paid for this class for my fiancé and I tried several times to contact the instructor to let her know this class was not for me, called her several times and sent several emails and she never returned my call or answered my emails. She did get my message though as my fiancé said she asked him about it to confirm. Docking a star there as I would have appreciated confirmation straight from her. My fiancé learned a lot and felt the class helped him. The class is small, at 15 or so. The instructor kept the class engaged; she will ask you to participate but she also has videos to accompany her instruction. She keeps you very informed about alternative transportation in the Austin Area should you need some sort of DD.

The class was a public class taught at Chef Amber's beautiful home, and I was joined by 9 other people eager to become more "green". Chef Amber was super personable, friendly, and clearly passionate about teaching us how to make healthy food that we want to eat, that is nutritious, and quick enough to put together for a weeknight dinner. I not only came away with 5 recipes I feel comfortable recreating on my own (and a multitude of variations, thank you!), but also picked up some knife skills, tips on kitchen utensils to use, tricks on how to store garlic and make my own veggie broth and so much more. Additionally, the atmosphere and vibe at Chef Amber's allows you to feel very comfortable asking questions, sharing life stories, cracking jokes (maybe that's due to the wine?), and overall having a ton of fun. I've already made a few of the recipes, Sunflower & Kale Pesto with Crudite and Kale Salad with Toasted Almonds, Avocado and Lemon Vinaigrette, for friends that we've had over and both received rave reviews. I highly recommend this class to anyone that is interested in eating great tasting food that makes you feel good. This class is not just for vegetarians! There were a few people in this class who had formerly shunned veggies and they came away the most excited about this experience. Can't wait to try out more recipes!

There are 2 teachers for 14 pre K children and maybe 3 teachers for all the total program. With too many kids, my child experienced bullying by both pre K students and older students. There will hitting, name calling and pushing that happened. The staff didn't do anything about it, write up a report or inform me this was going on. My kid told me everyday that boys were hitting him and calling him names :( The expectation is the children sit and color or sit and do a project for most of the afternoon. This is fine if a child is older but very hard for younger kids. Instead of thinking of creative ways to work with the younger children, they just kept telling my child to "sit" and that "my child should listen to them". The staff all have art backgrounds, no necessarily childcare backgrounds. They are teaching the pre K kids about "imagination". My child now tell me that "I don't like imagination". Between there being too many kids, the bullying, and the sitting, my child kept escaping. The teachers weren't paying attention and had trouble finding him and another kid. They had both either hid in the bathroom or left the building. This happened 3 times in 3 weeks (that I was told about) and probably more. Needless to say after a month we have pulled our child from the program. I would not recommend this program for younger kids. Wait until they are older, show interest in art and can defend themselves.

Heck...even i was confused and challenged by the TAKS weird questions and other assignments. So i reluctantly surrendered and found Lacie Taylor of Taylor-Made Tutoring. And what a great find. Five minutes after meeting Lacie you will feel comfortable with her and her methods. Her warm, calm and encouraging approach to teaching various learning methodologies is something i could never do. And so my daughter took to her lessons immediately, i am happy to say. She has responded very well and the improvements she has made are a great reflection upon Lacie's skills as a teacher. Another benefit to Taylor-Made Tutoring's math program is that they offer an in-home tutoring option where instead of having to drive in and out of Lacie's place of business, she has other tutors on her staff who will come to your home for the lessons. This is a valuable alternative at times. Taylor-Made Tutoring offers tutoring from elementary levels to very high math courses and we will likely be using her summer math camp to really get ahead this year.
