Having moved to Utah less than two years ago, we were told that for ice cream, Leatherby's was a place to try. Yep. It seems that this is an institution. The parking lot is always totally full any day of the week. The wife had a brownie hot fudge sundae. I had the pralines and caramel sundae in a waffle bowl. Really delicious home made hot fudge and caramel toppings. Especially the hot fudge. And I make a killer hot fudge. This hot fudge had a fantastic flavor. We really enjoyed both of our sundaes, which are typical Leatherby's over the top, spilled over, can't finish it all sundaes. Our waitress was very smiley. All employees seemed happy to be there. Employees at an ice cream shop better be happy, they are dealing with some of the happiest substance on earth! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice restaurant (they also have meal items). While we waited, we were made to feel like a bother as many employees stood around the back, looking at us, rolling their eyes and sighing as if we walked in right before close. She didn't know what to say other than, "We had a water spill on the other side." Anyway, she walked to the back, told her co-workers, and I could see them looking at our table once again with irritation. Caleb, our waiter, was very nice, but it wasn't enough to offset the rudeness of the other employees. We all ordered an ice cream and 3 baskets of fries. By the time I got home, I was extremely sick. Came here for an "ice cream social" because someone recommended it and was pleasantly surprised that they served regular food that was actually decent for 'diner like' food which is fitting for a creamery. It wasn't by any way life changing but if you're going for something very classic and ordinary then this is the place. You know how sometimes you just want a good old fashion burger or turkey sandwich, the OG form, nothing fancy or special, just classic then this is the place. Same to be said about the ice cream, the portions are absolutely ginormous. If you get the sundae, the kids portion looks like it's a 1/4 gallon lol and the adult size is probably double that. All the scoops come out in a giant glass dish and you'll likely only be able to eat half of it. The shakes were well portioned but my wife could hardly taste the malt in hers...and my Swiss Malt Chocolate shake was OK. My Pastrami burger and fries was OK as well (definitely NOT a Crown or Astro Burger). Really, nothing to write home about. Our waitress was good, but seemed to disappear just when we needed more ketchup (just packets, not a bottle), or salt. Like others have said, I would state that this is definitely a place for ice cream. It's the star of the show. As far as their food, it's basic American diner fare. We were in the area and I've seen pictures of the insane ice cream sundaes they have here, so we decided to drop by for an early dinner and a sweet treat. Leatherbys is an old time feel ice cream establishment. We stopped today because at one time, there used to be a leatherbys in Las Vegas Nevada on Sahara avenue. My wife wanted to stop as it reminded her of her childhood. We dined in and had the Celeste's cookie concoction. What a delicious treat to share. We visited Leatherby's for a team lunch during the workday. I had only had food at Leatherby's in Taylorsville once before, so this was my first time eating at this location. We were seated quickly. It wasn't very busy at lunch time, which is surprising in Draper. Our server was polite, but not especially attentive. I ordered a burger, which was decent. Our food took quite a while to come out, and when it did, we had to shoo away a lot of flies. I'm not sure what can be done about that with food safety requirements, but flies near my food grosses me out. Grainy, ice crystals, not great flavor, but I also ordered their very newest flavor, so I accept it's probably still getting a few things worked out.
