We went Friday night for some nice cream and the girl behind the counter couldn't have looked more bothered that we came in and disturbed her from her phone. She didn't say basically anything to us the whole time. We were the only people in there. We got a cookie dough cone, birthday cake cone and the toffee almond crunch cone. The ice cream itself was light and fluffy and airy. I think that's why all the cookie dough in mine was basically in the bottom of the cone. I have been wanting to try Cloud Ninth and let me tell you - I was not disappointed! The flavors are so unique and the ice cream base is super creamy and delightful. They switch up their flavors all the time, but I'd highly recommend the Peanut Butter Oreo if they have it. The cookie dough was also fantastic - you can't go wrong with homemade cookie dough!! This is a cute tiny creamery right on 9th and 9th. I love how the name of this shop has a double entendre. A lot of people keep mentioning about the dole whip. I don't know what that is, so I asked the girl behind the counter. When she explained what it was, I opted for the chocolate ice cream in a cup. I'm not a big ice cream consumer, so the small cup was plenty for me. Half way down there were little bits of chocolate crunchy and smooth......my new favorite. While we were sitting outside eating our ice cream (there is no inside seating) people were coming in droves, so much so there was a line out the door and down the sidewalk. Service was pretty fast considering there was only one person working. Parking space is hard to come by on a Saturday night with all the eateries nearby, especially on a Saturday night. I tried the peanut butter chocolate and it was top notch. The variety is great in both gelato flavors and other treats, such as shave ice and dole whip. They seem to be short-staffed (as many places are right now), so the one young man in the store was having a hard time keeping up with the demand, but her remained calm and friendly. This is a hidden gem of stellar ice cream in Salt Lake City! I am ridiculously impressed with the laid back owner who inherited this place from his grandfather. He still uses his grandpa's super premium ice cream recipes (16% butterfat) and then creates his own on top of them. I think this is one of my favorite ice cream spots in all of Salt Lake City. I love how many different flavors they have that are so unique but also the flavors of each one is like a mix of ice cream and gelato. I'm not sure if that makes sense but it's definitely creamy and delicious ice cream and has a rich bold flavor to it. I'm a huge fan. There's not much seating around but you can take a stroll around ninth and ninth, maybe even go for a dessert crawl with all the different spots. read more

I'm blown away by how amaaaazzzzing Cloud Ninth's ice cream is!!! I came here originally because I had to try Shay's signature Ice Cream Foodie flavor (salted chocolate ice cream with fresh, frozen bananas and Oreos inside). It was incredible! My husband and I each took our first bite and then gave each other the look of, "oh crap. What did we just get ourselves into?" I also sampled a few other flavors, and I'm excited to order a full cup of toffee caramel crunch and peanut butter chocolate. All of their flavors taste amazing. I could tell that they use high-quality ingredients, and they don't skimp on all that fattening deliciousness. Ice cream is apparently only sold from March-September, so I will have to stock up on a few pints until then. I can't wait to fill my freezer (and belly) with their ice cream! read more

Came to Cloud Ninth Creamery on a beautiful summer day. I'd never been before and didn't realize it was such a small shop. They had a couple tables out front where you can enjoy your frozen treat in the sun, and I don't know if it was provided by Cloud Ninth or a stranger, but there was some chalk outside and some artwork on the sidewalk. So that was a fun, nostalgic touch. The employee was very friendly. I checked out the dozen or so gelato flavors available but decided to go with a dole whip waffle cone that was HUGE! Very rich, tasted great, but I couldn't finish it all before it started melting. I made a mess of my hands, but there was no bathroom available to customers so I had to take my sticky self into the shop next door to get cleaned up. What a hidden gem!! My friend Shay told me that I needed to try out this yummy and super creamy ice cream so I made a special trip from Provo to Salt Lake! I'm so glad it was worth it. The shop is small but it was clean and had easy to read menus posted on the walls. We ordered 4 scoops of ice cream and 2 sno cones. The smallest size sno cones were quite large! I never tried my kids sno cones but they loved them. The "shark attack" came with gummy sharks and sour patch kids. That one was so fun for kids! I tried so many flavors of ice cream and all of them were great, but I settled on cake batter, chocolate fudge, Nutella crunch, and cookie dough. Came in for the Yelp Elite event and will definitely come back. Event gave us two single scoops to try, which I ended up giving to my friends because I ordered the Dole Pineapple Whip instead. Wish I knew of this place sooner. I think they rotate their flavors, but I believe I got the cookies and cream along with the vanilla with chocolate strips in it? The name of the flavor started with SP. Having grown up in 15 minutes away from Disneyland, I always try to get Dole Whip whenever I can and I will say it's pretty similar to the one at Disneyland. For some reason, we haven't had great ice cream options in SLC. But things are looking up! I love Cloud Ninth's location - walkable from Liberty Park on a sunny day, and close to casual shopping if the weather's not great. I also love their flavor profiles and options - sometimes you don't want full cream, so the sorbet is a great choice. And gelato? All under one roof? I don't usually get vanilla, but their vanilla ice cream is excellent, and paired with the more unusual flavors is a yummy little treat. It's so little and cute here, menu is super easy and prices are very reasonable. I ordered the birthday sprinkle ice cream and was very creamy and crunchy, too crunchy as cold sprinkles don't melt easy. We also ordered the chocolate fudge brownie in a waffle cone and it was filled with ice cream all the way to the bottomof the cone, unlike other places who only scoop the top. I enjoyed a shaved ice piña colada with creme, which was not very flavorful and didn't have enough cream. Although, I'm sure they probably would have added more if I asked. I really liked that the prices were decent for the portions. The service is fast but the parking scarce. Still stop by on the not so busy times anytime before 5pm. read more

After a scorching hot day in Liberty Park, I decided to cool down with a little ice cream. Driving down ninth there's a ton of options but the store front on this place just stuck out. There was a decent amount of pull in street parking as well as some parallel parking on the side streets. No private parking lot but who doesn't mind a little walk. Upon entrance you're greeted with a friendly smile and a showcase full of delicious options. You can peruse the menu on the wall but don't be afraid to ask for a quick sample of any of the flavors that might catch your eye. I tried the coconut ice cream and it was fantastically creamy with the perfect amount of flavor but I was in the mood for some shaved ice and inquired about the "Shark Attack". The shark attack is a giant bowl (and I just ordered a small) of shaved ice with two flavors of syrup. One is a tangy, fruity red called tigers blood and the other a blue raspberry. The giant mound is then topped with sour patch kids and gummy sharks. It is best described as sugary sweet artistry. Some artists choose paintbrushes these folks prefer frozen treats. read more

I thought I was getting my free elite treat but it had expired so with a 7 year old in tow, what do u do but try it out! My son later said he wanted shaved ice but we honestly didn't see a snow maker or anything. Very sterile inside. We settled on a wonderful fudge ice cream that a small could feed two small people. Instagram worthy? Absolutely. Gelato Worthy? Maybe not. Here's the thing, it's super cute and intimate inside (you'll be sitting outside) that's all good. But the gelato was more like ice cream, not super dense or creamy as I would have expected. I think my Italian friend I was with shed a single tear. They have four major categories of treats: Gelato (As we explained), Dole Whip, Shaved Ice, and Ice Cream (which I don't know where it was, maybe soft serve?). Looking at the size of the place and the amount of staff there (1) it might be a little too much on the menu. If you have children and don't want to take them for gelato or ice cream I think it would be a great place in the downtown/ 9th and 9th area for some shaved ice. ALSO, Dole Whip! Is there another place in the area with it besides Ice Bergs in Draper? I'm not positive there is. So, maybe this isn't a gelato place but more Dole Whip/ Shaved ice place. Just my thoughts. Dole whip and shave ice in one place? HELL YES. They actually serve REAL dope whip. If you know, you know. They also serve actual shave ice instead of snow cone. Ugh, so good. The hardest decision I have coming here is which one I want. Every time I've gone it's been 2 young girls working, they have been friendly & fast.
