The "contract" they sent us to sign was incomplete, missing entire sections and had errors, which we had to point out. Still they didn't revise it. They refused to let us review materials prior to submission to the Historical Commission, which was required given the historic designation of the house. Kept insisting they knew better and had experience working with historical commissions. Their quote for custom rebuild of the railings and columns was so overpriced, that even the Historical Commission staff was astounded. Finally they pulled out of the contract because their Commission application was about to be scrutinized, and they had a lot of work ahead. They did return a nominal amount of the retainer to us. The company had come highly recommended, yet our experience with them was sub par.

Victor's team are all highly skilled and take pride in their work. They demolished the old porch, removed all debris, and built us a brand new one. They fixed the siding the old one had messed up. They replaced the gutters with new ones. They patched up the newly-exposed part of the chimney. Every last detail. I also didn't have to hassle Victor to get a permit; he just did it. Which is such a baseline expectation it shouldn't make him stand out amongst his competition. Sadly, it very much does. Whenever you take on a home remodeling project like this, you have a picture in your mind of what you want. For this project, we had really specific ideas, a mix of old and new, materials and techniques. Which is normal. And it never turns out that way. Not once in all the renovation and rebuilding projects I've done over the years. Reality just doesn't live up to imagination. So I don't know how to put this in terms that will communicate how rare and remarkable it is. Our porch is exactly right. It is exactly what we wanted, and looks exactly how we imagined it. I don't think there's any possible stronger recommendation I can give than that. We couldn't be happier. And I am pretty sure that in another 125 years, whoever is living in this house is going to say, "Well, the place is showing some real wear, but at least the front porch is still in great shape."

He was dependable, with a cheerful disposition, excellent workmanship and attention to detail. He fixed a ceiling design problem that the architect overlooked and worked with me and the city to redesign it at his own expense. He went above and beyond my expectations, for example installing a linear (curbless) shower with excellent tile work. Everything from the windows, walls and doors, etc. were installed square and solidly. He also built a custom bench in the mudroom which has received many complements for its unique, beautiful and ergonomically comfortable design. I am a very fussy and detail oriented homeowner--hard to please. I fired two previous contractors for sloppy work.
