Bay State Remodeling - Bay State Remodeling Kitchen remodeler in Boston, Massachusetts

    Bay State Remodeling

    (104 reviews)

I recently had the pleasure of working with Bay State Remodeling for a project at my residence…read more The project was adding an office, finishing the space above my garage as well as adding a mudroom. The project was started by another contractor who, after finishing approximately a third of the job, disappeared and would not communicate with me. Worse they had left a very large mess of construction debris in my yard. I reached out to several contractors to attempt to get the project finished. Upon hearing the project was already started by another contractor, most of the new contractors were not interested in engaging in the work. Bay State stepped up and immediately helped me feel at ease that the project was now in the hands of true professionals. Upon reviewing the prior contractors work they discovered several issues and explained to me my options. Jamie was instrumental in the initial onboarding of the project and assisted me with picking finishes. Andreina was my contact throughout the project and kept me informed on progress and what work was scheduled in the coming week. Marcio was frequently on site and was extremely helpful in explaining my options throughout the project and sharing his expertise from what he had seen on other projects. They were also very helpful in spotting small issues where some finished work could be improved and quickly brought the team back on site to address. All of the workers that were on site were professional and despite this being a multi-month engagement, the disruption was kept to a minimum for my family. The professionalism of the Bay State team was exemplary, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone in the future.

Initial calls for gut kitchen and adjacent bathroom renovation + removal of load bearing wall went…read morewell with Sabrina and Ray - they assured us they have done many similar projects in the area successfully and on time. From the many positive and detailed yelp/google/houzz/angi reviews that had great end result pictures, we were convinced to move forward. Sabrina turned around the estimate for labor and some materials allowance quickly along with separate helpful tiered pricing guidance PDFs for kitchen and bathroom finishes to be purchased separately. Tile guidance was a bit off and a few categories like vanity, counter, mirror, light fixture in bathroom and plumbing for kitchen were missing. Vendors showed us finishes across all price tiers so it took us an extra week to finalize selections. Unfortunately we were told this delayed the project by a month. We were asked to wait on the kitchen design until after the engineering work for removal of the load bearing wall and addition of shear walls. Since we had a choice on the location of the shear walls, we preferred to do the design in tandem. I used cabinets.com to create my own rendering of the kitchen layout we wanted and provided them the full dimensions. The day before the approved structural wall work was to begin they sent their own drawing which had the wrong wall locations. After talking to both David and Dayna we realized her and the designer were not brought up to speed on the engineering work. Dayna then setup a productive Zoom call with the designer directly and we got my drawing to be updated with a few suggestions and required spacing and panels. The biggest mistake in the project came from one of their subcontractors employees who removed the plastic cover over our basement sink and cleaned off tools and plaster in it clogging the drain. Bay State quickly sent the drywall guy back over to unclog it. The project took just under 4 months to complete. Bay State and their subcontractors apart from the sink issue did not cut corners, often went above and beyond, and completed top quality finishes. No up-charge on materials was another big positive. The actual work done by the plumber (Mr Fix-It), electrician (Marcus Quintino), tile guys, drywall guy, cabinets guys, floor guys, and painters (AJA Painting) was excellent and we are very happy with our new space. Marcio was the MVP of their team - always calm, listened attentively to our many questions, provided great suggestions, and constantly asked the subcontractors to clean up. If they forgot, he cleaned up himself. His wife also worked tirelessly all day cleaning up at the end of the project. Things constantly move around and change during construction and it was difficult to get a clear picture of the plan each day. Andreina and at the start Dayna heard from us every week and always answered the phone and tried their best to chase down answers from others and get us the latest information. The billing process is very straightforward and Andreina provided further detail on line items as needed. Jose was always positive and happy to pass along feedback from us to the office when he swung by. Sabrina provided helpful guidance at the start in choosing our cabinets, counters, and hardware. David continually helped move the project along and has ensured everything is to our liking while encouraging us to pass along any punch list items. I would recommend Bay State for their quality of work, integrity, and communication. My main constructive feedback is on the design process and keeping everyone in sync throughout the project on the latest information.

The on-site manager, Jonathan, was great, and they gracefully and quickly responded to additional requests and changes of plans we requested, including entirely changing one of the windows. Even our neighbor reached out to tell us how nice and respectful they were and asked us how we found them. The answer is that I just saw that they were well-reviewed on Yelp, so I'm adding my review here too. Their pricing was very reasonable, and their work was exceptional. They replaced a shower system, which involved breaking existing tile and seamlessly re-tiling the affected section after the new shower was installed. During the process, they covered the opening with plastic so we could continue using the shower (even though it only took a couple of days). The re-tiled area blends perfectly with the rest of the shower (see attached pic). You'd never know it was repaired. They also repaired significant water damage from burst pipes, replacing and adding insulation and drywall, installed recessed lighting with dimmers, replaced a window and glass shower doors, swapped out an awkward set of swinging bathroom doors for a proper door, and took care of several long-overdue household repairs. Everything was completed quickly, quietly, and efficiently. If we ever need renovations in the future, we'll definitely be using them again.

The quote I received was incomplete (later) for electrical work!!!! Bottom line here, I also have texts and email that were not responded to or ignored, in spite of specifically ask Matt the owner if he is interested in taking the job. He said yes. But then never responded to text messages.

The proposal was very fair and their work was impeccable. No shortcuts. But more than all the above, Arik made great recommendations and provided consultation that made the project even better. His integrity was outstanding and his approach was as if he was doing the work for his own family. He was always respectful. I could not recommend his work more highly. I am only afraid that this recommendation might make him too busy for further work I may need.

We LOVE Arik and his team!! Arik just finished a renovation…read moreof our primary bathroom. He did it exactly the way we wanted by replacing the big, old jacuzzi tub with a beautiful, tiled walk-in-shower, new floor, and re-positioning the toilet to a better place. We wanted to keep our double sink vanity/cabinet and the big mirrors, but refreshed them with a good paint job. We love how it looks and works!! Arik and his team are very professional, competent and were a true pleasure to have in our house every day. They arrived on time, were always polite, answered all of our questions, made sure our sleeping area in the bedroom was protected from all the construction dust, cleaned up each evening before they left. Arik told us the job would take 2 to 2.5 weeks and it took exactly 2! The only thing left is the glass doors for the shower. Arik brings in the glass guy Rene who measures, discusses what we want, and then orders it for us. When the glass doors are ready to be installed, Arik will come back with Rene to oversee the installation. Arik's price was quite reasonable for the job, and he stuck with it!! There weren't any real unexpected challenges, but he did a few things extra to make sure the job was done right and did not charge any more than his original quote. We highly recommend Arik for any contracting work that you need, and we will definitely be using him again if and when we have another project. I am attaching "before" and "after" pictures.

Imagine a remodeling company that is able to take the ideas from your head and from printed out…read moreimages into reality quick and for a great price. My fiancee found Supreme Painters and Remodelers as we were looking to have our cabinets repainted in our new house. What attracted us to Lindo and his team was the process they outlined and the fact that they used lacquer to paint the cabinets rather than regular paint. We had a laundry list of a renovation we were also looking to have someone do for us so we had Lindo come for a quote. Lindo sent us a calendar invite for the day we were meeting and when the quote was ready, a nicely broken down itemized list of all the services and the corresponding costs. This helped us pick and choose what we needed to modify and what we wanted to skip. On that note, Lindo was very flexible and patient as we made a few changes and additions along the way and he found a way to make it work within our budget. We ended up refinishing our downstairs floors, installing new hardwoods up stairs, gutting an upstairs bathroom, retiling the downstairs bathroom, painting the kitchen cabinets, having a new countertop and plumbing installed in the kitchen, having a new fireplace build, installing new lighting including pot lights, taking down a few walls and painting the entire home. In regards to painting, the end result was unreal. Lindo's team spent over a week prepping the walls and cabinets for paint, and wow was it worth it. The house is from the 40s and after Lindo's team was done prepping and painting, it looked as if they put in new sheet rock on the walls and the ceiling. Even if you choose to go with a different contractor for other projects, demand that they use Supreme Painting for the painting because no one does it as well as they do. The end result of the rest of our renovations were beautiful as well and within the time frame we were hoping it would! Lindo uses fantastic subcontractors as well, especially his plumber/electrician Gerard is amazing! He was able to set up wiring to a hot tub, to our shed, add new light switches and outlets, wire up a tv through the fireplace and installing pot lights in an existing ceiling. Absolutely stellar work. His tile guy did amazing work and was able to follow our specific instructions for tile layout. He was also able to do a great job ensuring that we were able to keep existing tile and just make small changes to the border using extra tile. Looking at it, it looks as if it was always there and no changes were made. The tile work in the upstairs bathroom was amazingly impressive and is one of our favorite rooms in the house. Omar was an awesome communicator and helped us out when Lindo was not on site and helped to ensure everything was being done well All in all, Lindo really cared about the project and having it done well. I am eager and happy to be a referral and recommend him and his team to anyone who needs renovations. The end result of the renovations are stellar and honestly, while Supreme isn't the least expensive, it also isn't the most expensive, but the quality is there and well worth the price that is provided. If you compare Lindo's quote to averages, he is pretty much spot on and so I have no doubt his pricing is fair and his quality even better. There are some recommendations I would have but this is all personal preference and not worth of losing any stars, but just things to keep in mind as a potential client. While Lindo uses a great platform for notifying you that someone will be at your home, we never really got a project plan, to better understand when things are happening and who is going to be there and when. While I know we threw some wrenches into the plan with some changes, a dynamic project plan would have been helpful so we knew we were on track and we would know when to have materials ready by. This wasn't as big of an issue as we were not living at the project site during renos, but if we were, we'd 100% need a project plan. I think communication can be worked on between both the client and the project manager. Maybe a weekly check in scheduled to ensure that all questions and answers are addressed, especially when the client makes changes mid project. There were a few times that I felt I was waiting for answers to questions. However, overall, Lindo was available via text and phone when we really needed him. Lindo made a number of suggestions that were spot on and things we wouldn't have noticed or thought to do. This was our first major renovation and I think he should lean into doing that more with his clients as it helps to bring the whole project together and his experience is valued. Had it not been for Lindo we would have not ended up refinshing our floors and we are so happy that we did! As a final note, if you want renovations and you want them done right, just go with Supreme. The work is top notch, the prices are fair, Lindo has great ideas and the subs he uses are fantastic.
