Greatest Martial Arts School I've Ever Been To! Genius Teacher. Ingenious Curriculum. Friendly atmosphere. I'll never leave!

This school is a perfect analogy to the art it teaches: It is very traditional with solid roots and clear lineage, but is very much living... by which I mean it does not get caught in the superficial trappings that some schools put forward to convince outsiders of their authenticity. The environment is very friendly and laid back, but the training is very real. If you want to train for self defense, for art, for health, or for self discovery and development of a more centered outlook and peace of mind, all of those things can be found at Lee Gar Lun. Also the folks I have met here are uniformly just awesome people. It is common practice in a kung fu school to refer to fellow students as brothers and sisters, but I have to say, at this place I really do feel it. One thing I'll say... Don't expect to learn it all overnight. If you want to advance you have to put the time and effort in... don't look to the calendar to tell you when a belt test is (there is nothing like that here). I can't necessarily vouch for the efficacy of my Ving Tsun training since I've never been in a real fight, but the abilities and mindset I developed in class are part of the reason I've been able to diffuse potential fights before fists were thrown. It was actually a student from a different school that told me, "Wing Chun students don't start fights, they end them". While this holds true here, Sifu Robinson knows the value of Kung Fu beyond martial arts; it promotes health through improved circulation and exercise; it is a wonderful social outlet for people from all walks of life (to illustrate, the Ving Tsun lineage is very often called a family); and though it may not appeal to everyone, there is definitely a spiritual aspect to more traditional Ving Tsun training in that it helps us stay connected to our history. All that said, I know firsthand that the more experienced students would be extremely capable in a fight, and I also know based on experience in sanshou sparring that you can take a foundation in Ving Tsun and build anything you want on it.
